Where It's From

District / Napa Valley

View more wines from Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

Region / California

View more wines from California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

View more wines from United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Plums, currants, stones, sage and walnut husks on the nose. Some toffee and mocha. Medium- to full-bodied with polished tannins. Creamy finish. Drink after 2023. (James Suckling)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2023
Sourced predominantly from two estate vineyards in Rutherford, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot, 1% Grenache and 1% Syrah. Matured in approximately 50% new French oak, the wine offers a mix of cherries, subtle cedar notes and vanilla shadings on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, velvety, plush and supple. It’s easy to drink but has enough tannin to support short-term cellaring, and the finish adds appealing, savory hints of Mexican chocolate. With close to 26,000 cases produced, it should be widely available, and diligent shoppers may find it at retail for less than $50, making a rare bargain in Napa Cabernet. (Joe Czerwinski)

Alluring aromas of dried blueberries, currants, cloves and smoked meat. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Flavorful cooked-fruit and savory character. Drink or hold.
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/27/2021
The base appellation 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is rock-solid, with lots of cassis and mulberry fruits mixed with candied flowers, spice, and vanilla-like nuances. It’s rich and medium to full-bodied, with solid overall balance and ripe tannins, all making for a delicious Cabernet that’s going to keep for over a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP8686 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Mar 2021
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is redolent of warm cassis, stewed plums and dried Provence herbs, leading to suggestions of tobacco leaf and pencil shavings. The medium-bodied palate is soft, savory and uncomplicated with a nice bit of chewiness and a soft-spoken finish that offers appealing freshness.

A well-balanced Napa chardonnay, where oak does not intrude. Just a hint of creaminess to the lemony fruit with subtle spices. Fresh, elegant and smooth palate with medium to full body, showing a hint of oak phenolics at the end, which provide a nice grip. Drink now. (James Suckling)

A juicy, flavorful red with blackberry, chocolate and hazelnut character. Some coffee undertones. Full body and firm, silky tannins with a chewy edge. Flavorful finish. Drinkable now, but better with some age. Try in 2022.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2020
Ripe, sporting a fresh edge, with plum and black cherry notes cruising through, laced with cedar and alder hints and backed by a violet detail that adds good lift. Drink now through 2024. 18,987 cases made.
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2019
A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 1% Malbec and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet-purple colored and closed on the nose with tar and earth aromas plus baked plums, herbs and cedar notes. It has a decent core of fruit with a firm, grainy texture, finishing lively and long.
