Ramey Woolsey Road Vineyard Chardonnay 2018 / 750 ml.

Item#: 95355

WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2021
From a site in the heart of the appellation farmed by the Martinelli family, from cuttings that can be traced back to Hyde Vineyard, this white dazzles in salty sea air, oyster shell and hay, with subdued richness and layers of Gravenstein apple and pear. The acidity drives it into a fresh array of tension and texture.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Jun 2021
The 2018 Chardonnay Woolsey Road Vineyard was aged 20 months in 25% new French oak. It’s a lovely, mineral-driven style, with scents that segue from iodine and dashi to spiced apples and quince. The palate is silky, featherweight and minerally, finishing very long and lifted. 540 cases were made.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2021
Crisp and zesty, with a lively mix of green apple, Key lime and fresh-crushed savory spice flavors that are backed by vibrant acidity. Shows light buttery nuances on the intensely spicy finish. Best from 2022 through 2027. 540 cases made. (Kim Marcus)

Some text about the Russian River Valley.

District / Sonoma County

View more wines from Sonoma County

Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco is one of California's most famous wine districts. While sometimes overshadowed by the reputation of its rival and neighbor, Napa Valley, Sonoma County has a longer history of viticulture and is twice the size of the former.

Thanks in part to a strong diversity of climates within Sonoma County, the district is home to outstanding examples from a whole host of grapes. Sonoma County Pinot Noirs are considered some of the finest in the state, and the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels are remarkable. Chardonnays come in a variety of styles thanks to the varying temperatures in Sonoma County, and Cabernets and Merlots also thrive here.

Some of the more celebrated viticultural areas in Sonoma County include Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Coast, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Carneros (parts of which fall within Napa Valley).

Region / California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Apricot, sage, chamomile, dried flowers and almond notes all run through this resonant, inviting, wonderfully delineated, vibrant 2018 Chardonnay Chapel Vineyard. The 2018 has tremendous personality and tons of character.
WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/20
Herbal notes follow along with this wine’s zesty citrus-fruit flavors — it brings to mind ripe oranges, pomelo and the tense acidity of grapefruit. There’s also a little sunny baked-citrus character against the coolness. For grilled fish.

2017 / 750 ml.

Item #: 91054

RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jul 2020
The 2017 Claret is a blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 14% Malbec, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Syrah and 2% Cabernet Franc. It opens with classic scents of chocolate-covered cherries, cedar, bay leaves and tobacco with a very classy frame of sweet spices. In the mouth, it’s medium-bodied and plushly fruited with a fine grain and great freshness, finishing long. 4,482 cases produced.
JD8989 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - May 21, 2020
A blend of 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 14% Malbec, and the rest a mix of varieties, the 2017 Claret has a bright, edgy bouquet of blue fruits, graphite, toasted spice, and scorched earth. With lots of minerality, some vanilla oak, firm tannins, and medium to full body, it reminds me of a Cabernet from Ridge’s Monte Bello Vineyard. It shows the firmer, more linear style of the vintage, so give bottles a year or two and enjoy over the following 7–8 years or so. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
The 2017 Claret is a supple, fruity wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Ripe red cherry, red plum, mocha and dried flowers give this juicy Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot-based blend a good deal of complexity. Floral overtones linger nicely on the finish.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2020
Direct, with red currant and damson plum compote notes allied to sleek, polished tannins and backed by a gentle kiss of chocolate on the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2021. 4,482 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Great depth comes with impeccable balance in this beautifully proportioned wine that is silky and bracing at the same time. Deep ruby-purple, the 2018 Claret is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 9% Syrah and 2% Petit Verdot. Features a dense core of cherry paste and plum fruit, laced with a range of blood orange, plum pit, grilled savory and chalk notes. Tightly focused, with the fruit remerging steadily through the finish. Will cellar well. Best from 2021 through 2034. 7,177 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Sep 2019
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep ruby, it has an incredible nose of licorice, dried flowers and mint chocolate over black berries and black cherries, cedar shavings and pencil lead, plus spicy clove and star anise touches. Medium to full-bodied, it floods the mouth with plush flavor layers wrapped in chocolate-textured, pixelated tannins and great freshness to counter, finishing long and luscious. 7,177 cases produced.
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 6/14/2019
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a hot, sunny vintage yet has a pure, classy character. Notes of crème de cassis, tobacco, leafy herbs, and spring flowers are just some of the aromatics and it’s medium-bodied, elegant, and incredibly polished on the palate. It’s another wine from Ramey that’s nicely balanced, with terrific purity and loads of class. (Jeb Dunnuck)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2020
David Ramey’s 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is racy and inviting, with all of its natural exuberance on display. Another year in bottle has really helped the 2015 come together. Pretty red fruit and floral notes add a kick of brightness to balance the natural exuberance of the growing season.

RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Jun 2023
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum is pure and expressive this year. Blended with 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, it has a beautiful perfume of cassis, mint chocolate, dried thyme and lavender with hints of mushroom and tobacco just beginning to emerge. The palate is plush and velvety with an expansive core of floral fruit and bright, balancing acidity that gives it a weightless feel. It could use another 3–5+ years in bottle. (Erin Brooks)
JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/21/2023
Nearly black and made from 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, and a small dash of Petit Verdot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Annum brings forward a more lifted profile, with menthol, tobacco leaf, kirsch, and spice box notes. Full-bodied, with more lift and a bright, angular texture, it has earthy grip, fresh lift, and a good balance of fruit and earth. This needs some time, so give it a few years and drink 2026–2046. (Audrey Frick)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2023
A plush, fleshy style, with a bittersweet cocoa powder edge around a core of blackberry and black cherry reduction. RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Feb 2017
A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard has a deep garnet-purple color and nose of ripe black berries, crushed black currants, pencil lead and dried herbs with hints of dark chocolate and menthol. Medium to full-bodied with a great intensity and harmony, it has a solid backbone of firm grainy tannins and great length. Still very youthful and primary, give it another 2–3 years in bottle and drink it over the next 20+ years.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 1st Mar 2016
From Oakville, the 2013 Pedregal Vineyard is usually the top Cabernet Sauvignon. A classic nose of cedar wood, forest floor, blackcurrants and loamy earth notes is followed by a wine of stunning intensity, full-bodied potency, beautiful purity and length. There is plenty of tannin, but the extravagant richness seems to cover it up extremely well.
WE9595 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2017
This wine was co-fermented with 15% Petit Verdot from the same rocky, hillside site. The two varieties marry seamlessly in the glass, exuding a distinct perfume of forest mushroom and violet. Though pronounced in structure the wine is also soft and round, with a dotting of dried herb and a considerable length of clove and dust. It’s rich, intense and memorable.
VN9595 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2017
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard has turned out beautifully. It is also much more accessible young than I expected, despite its considerable size. Bright red stone fruit and pomegranate notes are pushed forward. There is plenty of tannin, but it is nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. There is plenty of stuffing and potential here.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2016
Shows impressive richness, size and grace. For all the depth and intensity, this features a supple, caressing element to the tannins, letting the earth, dried herb and dark berry flavors flow easily. The tannins linger in the background and then finish with a burst of licorice, spice, mocha and oak details. Best from 2019 through 2032. 615 cases made.
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 21, 2023

This full-bodied, incredibly rich and mouth-filling wine from a near-legendary vineyard saturates the palate with poached pears, marzipan, vanilla bean and crème brulee flavors, while being subtly lifted by a slice of tangy citrus that keeps it well balanced. Best from 2026–2036. (Jim Gordon)
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Jun 2023
The 2020 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard is mineral-driven and powerful and offers a strong sense of place. Its aromas segue from iodine and saline to creamy citrus. The medium-bodied palate explodes with concentrated, savory fruit and tones of beeswax and flint. Its acidity is racy yet seamlessly integrated, and it has a very long, shimmery finish. It tastes clean and has what it needs to age, but because of the challenges of the 2020 vintage, I would lean toward drinking it on the younger side after a couple of hours in a decanter. (Erin Brooks)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2023
Stunning, with a mouthwatering mix of Honeycrisp apple, Meyer lemon, tangerine and pear flavors that come across as powerful, sleek and exact.
