Where It's From
Region / Burgundy
In eastern France lies the region of Burgundy, one of the legendary wine regions of the world. Burgundy, home to some of the most expensive wines in the world, is famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With very few exceptions, red Burgundy is made from 100% Pinot Noir. And the reigning white of Burgundy, Chardonnay, can vary incredibly in style depending on where it was produced within the region.
Country / France
The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.
Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

The 2021 Chablis Vieilles Vignes was acutely affected by the frost with Vaudécorse cropped at a paltry 9hl/ha. It has a flinty, tightly-wound bouquet that is focused and vibrant, yet somehow more “serious” than the Chablis-Villages. The palate is very well balanced with more depth and substance than the Chablis-Village, harmonious, lightly spiced with gorgeous lime and white peach notes towards the elegant finish. Wonderful. The 2021 Chablis Sainte Claire was showing a little too much SO2 on the nose, although there seems to be decent fruit tucked behind. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity, quite tensile and steely with a precise finish that deserves a round of applause. This is well-crafted. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting in Chablis. (Neal Martin)

The 2022 Pouilly-Fuissé has a well-defined and focused bouquet. It’s mineral-driven, with subtle earthy scents filtering through the citrus fruit with time. The palate is well balanced with good depth, well-judged acidity, plenty of tangy orange zest and freshly-sliced pear towards the harmonious finish. This is a solid Pouilly-Fuissé rather than a memorable one. It does the job without the frills. Tasted blind at the BIVB tasting. (Neal Martin)

Youthful, fruity aromas of peach, apple and bread dough persist as this white plays out on the palate. Moderate length. Drink now. 14,757 cases imported.
Aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, freshly baked bread and white flowers introduce Jadot’s 2020 Bourgogne Chardonnay (Maison Louis Jadot), a medium-bodied, fleshy and charming wine with succulent acids and a nicely defined finish. Seamless and nicely balanced, it’s a fine effort at a competitive price.

The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers has a light, quite conservative, tertiary bouquet with touches of cedar and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity and a low-key but pleasingly precise finish that blossoms with aeration. Very fine.
Healthy dark red. Cool, slightly medicinal aromas of crushed raspberry, espresso and flowers. Dense, sappy wine with good fullness but also a cool quality to its slightly brooding red cherry fruit. Here the broad tannins are a bit dustier and less elegant than those of the Feusselottes but the finish shows good spicy, floral lift. This doesn’t quite come alive today, perhaps because it doesn’t possess quite the intensity provided by the seriously frosted parcels in 2016.
