An all-around well-balanced wine, this offers notes of lemon, lime, jasmine blossom, white peach and nectarine. The palate is driven by a solid dose of acidity, assisted by a slight spritz that adds the needed energy. (Stacy Briscoe)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Mineral and sliced cooked apples with lemon zest and hints of vanilla. Medium-bodied with some phenolics and tension and a fruity finish. Drink now. Screw cap. (James Suckling)

Generous and round, this shows notes of butterscotch, peach preserves and apple pastry on a ripe, creamy frame, with nutmeg and clove details on the finish. Drink now. 193,000 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

With melts-in-your-mouth softness, this broad, pillowy wine exudes butter, vanilla and cream aromas that echo in the flavors. Low acidity and lots of viscosity give a sweet impression. (Jim Gordon)

The 2022 Chardonnay SLO Coast is laced with hints of citrus confit, tangerine peel, mint, chamomile and lightly honeyed notes. This layered, expressive Chardonnay has so much to offer. The 2022 will spend 10–11 months in barrel. It is highly promising, even in this embryonic state. (Antonio Galloni)

Aromas of honey drizzled on ripe honeydew melon invite the nose into this comfortingly classic style of California Chardonnay. Toasted hazelnut and apple pie flavors on the palate are balanced by brisk lemon, cinnamon and star anise spices. (Matt Kettmann)

Impressive for its intensity and harmony, with caramelized pineapple, ripe Bosc pear, papaya and apricot flavors at the core, accented by touches of wildflower honey, brown sugar and vanilla. Mouthwatering acidity keeps everything in focus. Drink now. 60,000 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Feb 2024
I tasted the 2022 Chardonnay La Carrière from tank on the day of its bottling. It has an alluring delicacy on the nose with soft scents of peach, apricot, meringue, toasted bread and honeysuckle with nuances of roasted almonds and flint. The palate combines a bright spine of acidity with a satiny texture and expansive, layered stone fruit and spice layers, and it has a very long finish. 1,503 cases will be made, and the La Carrière will be released in February of 2024. (Erin Brooks)

This stunning white offers a lovely mix of marzipan and nougat, with notes of orange sherbet, lemon blossoms, salted toffee and peach preserves on a smooth, supple and elegant frame, backed by fresh acidity. Grace notes of lemon balm and lemon thyme, plus a touch of vetiver, add to the aromatic appeal and complexity. Drink now through 2037. 1,503 cases made. (MaryAnn Worobiec)

Shy at first on the nose, this bottling opens to reveal aromas of dark berry, dried earth and oregano. The tannic profile is firm on the palate, ensuring some cellar stamina, with flavors of blackberry, herb and a brick-like minerality. (Matt Kettmann)
