Spanish wine is often a go-to for many customers. Beginners looking for something mellow, everyday drinkers looking for value, adventurers looking for something new and interesting and collectors looking for something sophisticated and complex can all find great wines in Spain.
The best Spanish wines are produced in the historic regions of Rioja (which some refer to as "the Bordeaux of Spain") and Priorat, while lush Garnachas, Monastrells and Tempranillos from less well-known areas are always popular and well-priced. In Spain, wines are consumed with most meals, so bottlings at affordable prices are always a must!

RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Nov 2014 This sensational non-vintage Barcino Cava was made from a solera system where the dosage was started in the 1940s. A blend of 55% Xarello, 25% Macabeo and 20% Parellada, from vines planted in 1995, this crisp, delicious, dry sparkler spent 12 months on its lees. Attractive notes of honeyed brioche, poached pear and caramelized grapefruit jump from the glass of this zesty, light-bodied, exceptionally well-crafted, pure, fresh cava. Enjoy it over the next year.

JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - February 21, 2018 A custom cuvée made for importer Eric Solomon with Jean-Marc Lafage, the 2016 Alcaria is a blend of 50% Monastrell, 25% Syrah, and the balance Garnacha, brought up in a mix of French and American oak barrels. An incredible value that more than over-delivers, this deeply colored red boasts terrific notes of ripe black fruits, chocolate, smoked herbs, and graphite. With full-boded richness and a sexy, opulent style on the palate, it opens up nicely in the glass and should keep for 2–4 years.RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2017 One of the new custom cuvées for their U.S. importer Eric Solomon is the 2016 Alcaria, which is about to be launched. It’s a GSM-ish blend of 60% Monastrell with 25% Syrah and the remaining Garnacha Tintorera with a short time in French and American oak barriques. It’s a little reduced right now after bottling (most probably because of the Syrah), so you might need to give it an energetic decanting or some more time in bottle. The meat component in many wines in this region is part of the signature and the rustic elegance of these wines. There is no reduction in the palate, where the tannins are fine-grained and there’s good balance. 120,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2017.SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2017 Floral and mineral notes frame juicy cherry and red plum flavors in this fresh red. Crisp acidity keeps the supple texture focused, while firm tannins give this some heft. Monastrell, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera. Drink now through 2024. 6,000 cases imported.WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 6/1/2018 This blend of Monastrell, Syrah and Garnacha Tintorera feels lively, its dark plum and berry aromas laced with chocolate. Smacking tannins create a dry sensation, framing ripe black plum and prune flavors. Complex notes of spice and tomato emerge on the firm finish.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, August 2, 2018 Very ripe and slightly raw oak over black fruit and coconut candy. The palate has dense, chewy fruit and really assertive tannins. JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 24, 2017 A big ripe wine with a touch of caramel alongside the big black plum note. A massively tannic but relatively plush wine that has a certain freshness. This ought to age well. Better from 2020.RP8787 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Feb 2017 There is a new red blend of Tempranillo with some 13% Cabernet Sauvignon called 2014 El Transformador, from grapes mostly from a plot that names the wine. The vines were planted in the 1970s on limestone soils. It fermented with indigenous yeasts after a cold soak with dry ice, followed by ten months in second and third year French oak barrels. It showed very high ripeness and some volatility that made it a little blurry. The palate showed similar flavors and some dusty tannins. 8,000 bottles produced.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - March 22, 2021 Beautiful, with lots of cassis, blackberry, graphite, camphor, and acacia flower notes on the nose, the 2017 Vinas Viejas hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, elegant texture, ripe tannins, and a gorgeous finish. WS9191 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 12/19 The members of this coop collectively own 1,750 acres; this wine comes from some of the region’s higher altitude vineyards, at 2,460 feet above sea level. It is impressively fresh, with a crunchy green edge to its spicy black-plum flavor. There’s a beef-broth richness that runs underneath the fruit, giving the wine the substance to pair with hearty foods, like barbecued beef.Premier SelectPremier Select wines are handpicked by our staff from amongst thousands of wines for their exceptional quality. SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2017 This lively red delivers black cherry and licorice flavors, with smoky and leafy notes. Fresh and focused, in a balanced structure that is energetic and graceful. Made in a clean, modern style. Drink now through 2024. 8,850 cases made.WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 2/1/2018 Straightforward berry and cherry aromas control a nose with spice and cocoa notes. A high-toned, tannic palate carries fresh plum and raspberry flavors end, with hard tannins, barrel-based notes and general dryness. Drink through 2021.
