Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 / 750 ml. | Item#96093
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2022 A smoking value, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Silencieux has a medium to full-bodied, silky, pure, incredibly elegant profile that’s just a joy to drink. Giving up notes of jammy darker berries, cassis, lavender, and iron, it’s ideal for drinking over the coming 8–10 years or so. (Jeb Dunnuck)RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Silencieux is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it offers powerful notes of stewed plums and boysenberry preserves, with wafts of tobacco, cloves and underbrush. Concentrated and decadently spicy, the full-bodied palate is packed with bags of black fruit preserves, finishing long and layered.
JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, March 1, 2022 This is a big upgrade in finesse and clarity to such a popular, premium cabernet from Napa. It shows lots of blackberry, tar, cedar and oak-tree aromas that follow through to a full yet toned palate of fine, integrated tannins and a vivid finish. Owner David Duncan explained that the American oak they use in the wine for aging now comes 100% from their own barrel-making facilities, which tones down the vanilla character in the wine. Really impressive and delicious. It’s a joy to drink now, but can age. Drink or hold.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2018 This mouthwatering rosé Champagne shows textural density, sitting like raw silk on the palate and offering flavors of dried white cherry, grapefruit granita and ground ginger, with a light and lingering toast note. Drink now.WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2013 This is a beautiful, full rosé that is rich and shows a fine balance between acidity and fruitiness. This bottling is also mature with toastiness coming through, giving a softer, rounder character. There is weight, and great acidity on the finish.WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2013 A whimsical play on fruit and spice, this is delicate enough to hint at an orange blossom scent and meaty enough to serve with cured sausages. It bristles with acidity over red fruit, lasting on heady complexity.RP8686 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Dec 2008 The NV Brut Rosé is a straightforward, accessible wine to enjoy over the next year or two. With a little additional refinement in the tannins, this bottling might merit a slightly higher score. This is Lot 14009917, disgorged between December, 2006 and January, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2008–2010.
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 28, 2022 An aromatic nose of stone fruit, fresh tropical fruit and jasmine. Full-bodied with a nice, oily texture. Fruity and lightly honeyed on the palate. Lavender and lily. Steely. Loire-like. Always an excellent sauvignon blanc. Drink or hold.RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022 The 2020 Sauvignon Blanc is fruity and refreshing. “We did a lot of whole cluster pressing,” winemaker Heidi von der Mehden responds when I ask about new approaches in 2020 in response to wildfires. “I think it helped with the texture of the wine and took out a bit of bitterness” she continues. “It started as a logistical decision in 2020, but we liked it, so we will continue to do more whole cluster pressing moving forward.” It’s a significant dedication to quality for one of their largest cuvées, and the 2020 also contains about 60% estate fruit. This Sauvignon Blanc offers pretty aromas of elderflower, white peaches, lime peel and kiwi with touches of baker’s yeast and alluring floral perfume. The palate is medium-bodied and flavorful, with notable concentration and freshness that will broaden its appeal at the table. (Erin Brooks)
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023 A toasty, spicy aroma leads to ripe apple, pear and nutmeg flavors in this friendly, full-bodied wine. It offers a mouth-filling richness, persistent fruit and baking-spice flavors and a lingering finish. (Jim Gordon)
JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/11/2021 A rock star of a second wine already offering pleasure, the 2018 Amiral De Beychevelle checks in as 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc that comes from the younger vines of the estate and slightly more sandy soils. This makes for a more up-front, fruit-driven wine that reveals a deep purple hue as well as sumptuous array of blueberries, black cherries, lead pencil shavings, tobacco, and spring flowers. It’s classic Bordeaux on the nose, yet has a wonderful sweetness of fruit, ripe, polished tannins, no hard edges, and just a balanced, seamless style that’s ideal for enjoying over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, March 3, 2021 Dark fruit with cedar and herbal notes on the nose. Some meat, too. It’s full-bodied with firm tannins. Juicy and savory character on the palate with a balanced structure. Flavorful finish. Second wine. Try after 2023 when it will be more together.
RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020 The estate red 2014 Reserva was produced with the grapes from a challenging year with abundant rain and high temperatures in September. They started picking the 11th of October and had to rush and do a severe selection of grapes. It fermented in small vats and oak casks and matured in barriques for 20 to 21 months. They consider 2014 the breakthrough vintage for Remelluri since Telmo Rodriguez came back in 2010, as it takes time until things are sorted. 2014 was a challenging vintage, but when they compare it with 2013, they still favor 2014. I like it, but honestly, it pales in comparison to the Granja Gran Reserva 2014. 220,000 bottles produced. It was bottled between April and May 2017.JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, November 2, 2020 Aromas of dried flowers, ripe berries and tobacco continue to the palate that is medium-to full-bodied with firm, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Classic style. Better with a little more bottle age, but already very pretty. Drink or hold.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2011 Exceptional concentration, structure and balance mark this 11-year old blend of Cab, Cinsault and Carignan that’s ripe with cassis and plums and a plume of smoke, earth and barnyard funk. Tannins subdued into a powdery softness, it’s elegantly textured yet full and forward with a rich, layered complexity. (Anna Lee C. Iijima)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 2, 2020 Beautiful blackberries and green tea with some blueberries. Medium body with beautiful balance, freshness and whole-berry sensibility and brightness. Subtle and sophisticated. Drink or hold.RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2021 The 2018 Catena Alta Malbec shows more evolution and ripeness than the 2019. It’s varietal and floral with a mixture of red and black fruit, sweet spices and aromatic herbs. It has moderate ripeness — in fact, it’s a little lower in alcohol than the 2019 — a medium body and fine-grained tannins, with good grip. 162,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2019.VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2020 A Malbec from Mendoza made from a selection of parcels in different terroirs in Primera Zona and the Uco Valley that spent 18 months in French oak, this is complexity in a bottle. The ripe, layered, evolving nose delivers plum and violet notes followed by a hint of acidic cherry over a woody backdrop. Fleshy on the palate, it offers the good grip and volume typical of Malbec as part of a satisfying combination that also includes a terse texture and juicy freshness.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Mar 31, 2022 Well-structured and juicy, with dark cherry and plum tart flavors that feature firm tannins and acidity. The spicy finish offers baker’s chocolate notes and peppery hints. Drink now through 2024. 13,500 cases made, 3,500 cases imported.WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/21 This is a selection of individual blocks from the Catena vineyards in Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley. Each block ferments separately on indigenous yeasts, with lees stirring to stabilize it and reduce the addition of sulfur. Eighteen months of oak aging leaves an impression that dampens the finish, but the beginning is spring-like and vivacious, like a meadow in bloom. It’s got the firmness to match up with summer sausage and hard cheeses on a picnic.
VN95+95+ pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021 The 2018 Guado al Tasso is silky, delicate and exceptionally polished. I can’t remember tasting another Guado like it. Medium in body and gracious, the 2018 offers up a compelling mélange of dark fruit, chocolate, cedar, licorice and dried herbs, all in a mid-weight style that is incredibly appealing. The 2018 has just been bottled, so it needs time to bounce back. I can’t wait to taste it with a bit more time in bottle.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2021 Rich, intense fruit flavors of black currant and black cherry are shaded by vanilla, toasty oak, iron, black olive and tobacco accents in this complex, harmonious red. Fine balance and a lingering finish cap it off. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2023 through 2035. 2,000 cases imported.
JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, March 3, 2022 A rich nose, packed with aromas of ripe and dried red fruit, including heaps of wild strawberries. There’s fresh orange rind, too and on the savory side, notes of cloves, perfumed bark and brighter flowers. Full-bodied with a very silky but firm texture. The strawberry and citrus fruit is ingrained in the velvety tannins and the combination gives a very long finish. Twist of red licorice at the end. This is nicely structured and well balanced, but needs plenty of time. Try from 2026.VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022 The 2018 Barolo Perarmando is gracious and intensely perfumed. Sweet dried cherry, cinnamon, mint, spice, tobacco and cedar give the Perarmando its distinctive aromatic profile. The tannins are a bit firm, but nothing a few years in bottle can’t take care of. Perarmando is the new name for the estate’s entery-level straight Barolo.
WS9494 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2019 This focuses on red fruit (51 percent pinot noir, 15 percent meunier), with chardonnay providing the balance, all of it from premier or grand cru sites. A portion of the blend (11 percent) was aged in foudres, adding power to the wine’s structure without diminishing its scent of spring flowers, a sunny, floral note that contrasts the wine’s chalk cloud of minerality and its rich depths of flavor. A great vintage from Clicquot, this is fresh, grand and giving.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 15, 2019 Sleek acidity frames this harmonious Champagne, with flavors of lemon curd and crushed blackberry, accented by pistachio, anise and fleur de sel notes. Creamy and well-meshed, showing zesty drive on the finish. Disgorged August 2018. Drink now through 2027.
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 5, 2021 A creamy, full-bodied red with aromas of stewed blackberries, blackcurrants, dark chocolate, black tea and sweet tobacco. Ripe, polished tannins support a velvety core of dark fruit and chocolate. Delicious finish. Tight and so together. Drink or hold.SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2021 Powerful and well-structured, with zesty acidity to the dried red berry and currant flavors. Minerally richness lingers into the crunchy finish, with plenty of savoriness. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc and Petite Sirah. Drink now through 2025. 6,100 cases made.
