RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 3rd Mar 2016 Straw yellow and with a golden hue in color, the Pol Roger NV Réserve Brut displays a brilliant, perfectly ripe but also fresh, highly elegant and refined fruit aroma on the nose; think of cooked pip fruits like pears and apples, but also quince-confiture and yellow stone fruits, such as apricots and peaches intermixed with vanilla, brioche (pain aux raisins), some nutty flavors and also some white floral notes. On the palate, this medium-bodied Brut is as round (if not pretty sweet) and fruit-driven as it is delicate, pure and very elegant. The mousse is deliciously fine and leads this charming and perfectly balanced fizz to a long, aromatic, stunningly dry and slightly mineral, impressively long finish. This is extremely well done Champagne from equal parts of Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay sourced in 30 different crus. This Réserve includes 25% of reserve wines and was dosed with nine grams per liter.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2018 A well-cut Champagne, with a zesty mousse, this offers a harmonious mix of crème de cassis, Honeycrisp apple, candied ginger and toasty notes, offering a subtle, smoke- and spice-tinged finish. Drink now through 2021. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 110,000 cases made, 12,000 cases imported.WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2016 This is a well-balanced, ripe wine in the producer’s rich house style. A brighter, more mineral crispness and acidity also come through strongly in this bottling. The aftertaste brings together a mineral texture and full yellow and apple fruits. Drink now.WS8888 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 31, 2009 Bright white chalk and yellow fruit scents contrast darker tones of root vegetables and earth. This is clean and dry, with minerality that lasts. The acidity makes it a refreshing match for tempura.
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, December 15, 2020 A very pretty, manicured young red with plum, berry and dark-chocolate character. Medium body and round tannins that are focused and firm. Delicious, succulent finish. Plenty of subtle fruit and supple tannins take you to where you want to go in fine Rioja red. Drinkable now but linear and tight. Give it some time. Better after 2021.RP94+94+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020 The current vintage of the red that is their first option to have with food is the 2016 Selección Especial, whose grapes are selected from terraced vineyards in the Montes Obarenes and the Sierra Cantabria, from vines averaging 35 years of age. It fermented in oak vats and matured in French oak barrels for 26 months, and it’s kept in bottle for at least 18 months before it’s sold. This is serious and has freshness and some restraint in the palate; it’s much more expressive, floral and aromatic and with more-integrated oak than the wines from five+ years ago. It’s a more elegant vintage than the 2015 and every bit as good, or a tad better. Winemaker Isaac Muga considers 2016 a very good harvest. It was bottled in April 2019. This is among the best vintages of Selección Especial. 288,000 bottles produced.VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Apr 2021 Dark ruby. Vibrant, smoke- and spice-accented cherry and cassis aromas show very good clarity and a hint of candied rose. Sappy, penetrating and focused on the palate, offering finely etched and appealingly sweet dark berry, cherry cola and spicecake flavors along with a subtle chewing tobacco nuance. Closes impressively long and lively, with resonating florality and chewy, youthfully gripping tannins adding final grip. Raised in new and used French oak barrels.JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - October 21, 2020 Always a terrific wine, the 2016 Selección Especial is based on 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacha, and the rest Graciano and Mazuelo. Almost Rhône-like with its spicy, meaty, gamey style, this beauty offers lots of red and black currants, cedary spice, incense, and tobacco aromas and flavors. It’s medium to full-bodied, has terrific balance, silky tannins, and is just a class act. The 2015 is a richer, more opulent wine, while the 2016 shows a touch more freshness and elegance. Both are beautiful vintages worth buying, cellaring, and drinking.
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2017 The NV Brut La Française is based on 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir and 25% Pinot Meunier, all fermented in stainless steel and blended with 30% of reserve wines. It is a pure, fresh and well-structured Brut that seems more elegant, complex and round than the Brut Réserve. The persistent finish is clear, fresh and well structured, with refreshing lemon flavors and a nice grip. My sample was said to be bottled in 2014 and disgorged in March 2017 with nine grams of dosage. There is good length and tension here as well as sweet cherry aromas in the aftertaste.SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2015 Well-cut and firm, with a smoky underpinning and a chalky texture, this shows an open-knit mix of black raspberry, slivered almond, lemon peel and star anise. Enjoy with food. Drink now through 2020. 25,000 cases imported.WS9090 pts. - Wine & Spirits - December 1, 2007 The deep savor of this wine is built out of lees to hint at fresh almonds and toasted wheat. Bubbles refresh its lusciousness, giving it drive. The mouthwatering white and green fruit tones would work well with pan-roasted brook trout and slivered almonds.WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2017 This ripe wine is balanced with some fine bottle aging. That gives both a toasty aroma and some yeasty flavors on the palate. The wine is packed with citrus and crisp white fruits — it’s floral and immediately attractive. Drink this Champagne now.ST8888 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Nov/Dec 2005 Pale yellow, with an energetic mousse. High-pitched floral and apple aromas are bright, accented by a refreshing note of mint. Yeasty and toasty in the mouth but ultimately a more delicate style, with fresh, sweet citrus and peach flavors. Finishes on a note of fresh bread, with a bit more weight than recent releases of this cuvée.
Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 / 750 ml. | Item#96093
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021 The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Silencieux is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it offers powerful notes of stewed plums and boysenberry preserves, with wafts of tobacco, cloves and underbrush. Concentrated and decadently spicy, the full-bodied palate is packed with bags of black fruit preserves, finishing long and layered.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Apr 2022 Next to the 2018, I also tasted the 2019 Clio, a similar blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon from a vintage marked by torrential rains caused by the DANA storm in September that delivered 200+liters of rain. It fermented in stainless steel with neutral yeasts and matured in French and American oak barrels for 23 months. It’s slightly lower in alcohol than the 2018, 15.5%. I think the Cabernet was more noticeable here and it added a certain freshness to the wine, which, coupled with a little less alcohol, made the wine come through as a little cooler and more continental. All within the Chris Ringland style, of course… 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2020.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021 The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is racy and expressive in the glass. Super-ripe red raspberry, spice, vanillin and a hint of chocolate add a pretty touch of flamboyance to this open-knit, silky Cabernet Sauvignon. Supple and inviting, with no hard edges, the 2018 will drink well right out of the gate. Best of all the 2018 is a fabulous value.SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2021 Nicely packed with plum, currant and blackberry purée flavors laced with black licorice and framed by a perfectly integrated alder note. Flash of sweet bay in the background, too. Drink now through 2026. 1,575 cases made.WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2022 With a sumptuously inviting nose of nutmeg, clove and dark chocolate, this rich wine is blended with 14% Malbec and 2% Merlot. Dusty texture gives in to a core of soft, supple tannins that melt on the palate, finishing with length and breadth.JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, January 27, 2021 A very rich, opulent nose with aromas of sandalwood, nougat and grilled plum. It’s full-bodied with a firm tannin structure. Stewed fruit flavors lead to a warm, toffee and chocolate-infused finish. Drink or hold.
RP91+91+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Sep 2021 Disgorged in spring 2020 with 4.5 grams per liter, the new NV Brut Ultradition exhibits aromas of toasted bread, honeycomb and golden orchard fruit. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, girdled by incisive acids and enlivened by a pinpoint mousse. Expect more complexity to emerge with a bit more age on cork. As in its extra-brut counterpart, domaine fruit is supplemented by some 40% purchased must in this bottling.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2021 New leather, truffle, menthol and baked plum aromas slowly emerge on this inviting, full-bodied red. Smooth and savory, the velvety palate doles out fleshy black cherry, fig, tobacco and licorice alongside polished, enveloping tannins. Drink through 2028.
WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021 Firm lines of graphite and loamy earth streak through the opulent aromas of black plum and dried violet on the nose of this brooding Pinot Noir. The palate is a whirlwind of exuberance, as leathery tannins wrap around more graphite minerality, dried violet and lavender, with stewed plum and a touch of bittersweet cocoa on the finish.VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022 The 2019 Pinot Noir Las Alturas captures all the signatures of the Belle Glos style and yet has quite a bit of freshness too. That makes for a compelling Pinot for readers who enjoy big, large-scaled wines. Sweet spice, rose petal, lavender and spice are nicely kicked up here.SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2021 Ripe and rich, this is filled with concentrated Asian spice accents to the dark cherry and roasted plum flavors. Shows hints of dark chocolate and mocha on the plush finish. Drink now through 2023. 9,015 cases made.
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, September 6, 2021 Currants, sweet tobacco, walnut husk and flowers on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied, it grows on the palate, with firm yet polished tannins and a flavorful finish. Very solid and well-crafted second wine from Ornellaia. Drink after 2023.RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 6th May 2021 A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, the 2019 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia shows a greater degree of focus and detail compared to the previous vintage that I tasted at the same time. This wine reveals the sharp contours and etched character of the Cabernet Franc, especially with black licorice and black pepper. The results are linear and pure. Elegant fruit notes of blackberry and dark currant add to the thick layering of the wine. I tasted this sample not long after bottling, and we can expect the wine to hit the market in September 2021.WS9494 pts. - Wine & Spirits - 10/21 The 2019 Le Serre Nuove’s dark fruit flavors are juicy and vibrant, framed by velvety tannins and enlivened by notes of warm spice. The plum and blackberry flavors maintain freshness and verve after the second day, gaining intensity and depth as the wine reveals layers of fresh tobacco and soft licorice.
JD96+96+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/6/2021 I loved the base 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon. This will stand up to any Bordeaux blend coming out of Washington today. A blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot, it offers a medium to full-bodied, incredibly seamless, balanced style carrying lots of cassis and darker currant fruit as well as notes of tobacco, bouquet garni, graphite, and scorched earth. It closes down relatively quickly with air and is a serious, structured, yet incredibly promising Cabernet. Hide bottles for 5–6 years and enjoy over the following two decades.JS9696 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, July 5, 2021 Blackberry, blackcurrant, tobacco leaf, dried herb, walnut and mocha on the nose. Some roasted-coffee notes. It’s full-bodied with firm, tightly knit tannins. Flavorful with fresh acidity and a supple texture. Delicious now, but better from 2022.RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Jun 2021 Made with the addition of 9% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Walla Walla Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep ruby core with a magenta rim and bursts with aromas of dark cherry, black raspberry essence and plum compote. Full-bodied, the palate offers firm tannins that sway with mineral tension and juicy robustness. Seductive floral tones offer a lasting impression across the long-lingering and juicy finish, leaving behind flavors of bitter dark chocolates and crème de cassis. Almost 35,000 bottles were filled after resting 22 months in new and used French oak barrels.WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021 Aromas of scorched coffee, earth, tar, black cherry, cassis, dark chocolate, anise and spice are followed by dense, layered, rich fruit flavors. There’s plenty of levity to keep it aloft, along with precision and detail. The finish carries as long as you care to count. It’s a quintessential Walla Walla Valley wine at its finest, with power and grace. Drink from 2028 to 2038, but it will live as long as you care to keep it.
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2020 The 2019 Zeltinger Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese is very clear and intense, provided with very fine raisin and flinty aromas. Lush and crystalline on the palate, this is a salty-piquant, juicy and razor-sharp yet delicate Auslese with great finesse and precision. A highly promising wine. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, April 12, 2021 A very classical Mosel Auslese that’s undeniably sweet, but with a filigree and lighthearted personality. The floral and apricot notes are totally delightful. Such a clean, long finish! Drink or hold.
