The NV OVR Lot 73 is composed mainly of Zinfandel with smaller portions of Syrah, Petite Sirah, Carignan and Barbera. Medium ruby, it offers intense red cherry, blood orange and apricot perfume with accents of rooibos tea leaves, red licorice, saline, lilac and loads of spicy nuances. The medium-bodied palate is light on its feet with soft tannins, bursts of refreshing acidity and detailed amaro accents on the long finish. This is so easy to drink! (Erin Brooks)
Lovely aromas of pitted red cherries, black cherries, moss and walnut. Medium-to full-bodied with gentle tannins. Nice intensity with lovely length. Juicy, with so much herbal complexity and black fruit. Predominantly zinfandel, with syrah, petite sirah, grenache, barbera, carignan. Drink now.
Tastes like the gutsy field blends popularized by Italian immigrants back in the day, with potent wild berry, licorice and smoky cracked pepper flavors that finish with broad-shouldered tannins. Zinfandel. Drink now through 2029. 16,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon
2021 / 750 ml.
The 2021 Game Trail exudes finesse from the very first taste. Crushed flowers, dark red-toned fruit, cinnamon, leather, menthol and dried rose petal build effortlessly as the 2021 shows off its undeniable class. Cabernet Sauvignon at 1,400 feet in the Yorkville Highlands is utterly sublime in this bottling from Marietta. (Antonio Galloni)
The 2021 Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon is crunchy, refreshing and easy to drink. It’s scented of fresh blackcurrants and cherries, plus nuances of garrigue and charcuterie. The full-bodied palate is light on its feet with softly chalky tannins, bursts of mouthwatering acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish. You could drink this on its own or have it with medium-weight dishes at the table. (Erin Brooks)
This wine opens with immediate aromas of crushed roses and violets, followed by just ripe black currant, fresh fennel and tarragon. The palate is built on strong, textural tannins and driven by a generous dose of acidity, giving vivacity to those fruits and herbs and adding touches of black pepper, star anise and fresh cut wood. (Stacy Briscoe)

Estate Grown Zinfandel
2020 / 750 ml.
Bright, lively black-cherry and raspberry flavors light up this well-balanced, well-focused and charming wine. It doesn’t lack for tannins and does feel full bodied, but pure fruit flavors and the zippy mouthfeel keep it light on its feet. Small amounts of Petite Sirah and Barbera were added in. (Jim Gordon)
A blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah and Barbera, the 2020 Román Zinfandel has a medium ruby-purple color and aromatic layers of raspberry, red cherry, rhubarb, aniseed and lilac with touches of iron and orange peel. The medium-bodied palate is gently chewy, with tart, juicy fruits and a spicy finish. (Erin Brooks)

Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon
2015 / 750 ml.
From the Yorkville Highlands AVA, the 100% Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 Game Trail Cabernet Sauvignon sports a deep purple color all the way to the rim. Spiced plums, cassis, cedar pencil, and exotic spice notes give way to a medium-bodied, concentrated, seamless wine that has class and charm. With fine tannin, good acidity, and a fresh, focused style, I suspect it will drink nicely for 7–8 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Game Trail is a big, rich wine. Huge, burly tannins and overripe fruit give the 2015 a distinctly burly feel. Hints of black olive, smoke, tobacco, leather and sage add aromatic nuance, but this is a decidedly hearty Cabernet Sauvignon. The balance could be better here.

The 2018 Román is bright, punchy and full of Zinfandel character. Dark red and purplish fruit, spice and mint all race out of the glass effortlessly. Dollops of Petite Sirah and Barbera bring added complexity to the field blend. The 2018 is one of the best wines readers will find for the money. Quite simply, it is a screaming value.
The 2018 Zinfandel Roman checks in as 92% Zinfandel, 4% Petite Sirah, and the rest Barbara that spent 10 months in neutral barrel. Spiced red plums, sandalwood, cedary herbs, and candied orange blossom notes all emerge from the glass, and it’s medium-bodied, with a straight, focused texture, beautiful balance, and a clean finish. It’s a charming, delicious red. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2018 Armé, Marietta’s Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend, is terrific. Blue/black fruit, leather, smoke, spice, tobacco, dried herbs and sage give the 2018 its strong aromatic presence. There’s quite a bit of tannin, though, so a few years in bottle are advisable. Armé packs a serious punch. And it’s a steal, too.
