This is quite an approachable Zinfandel with all the classic Zin notes—blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, chocolate, fennel, violets—along with resolved tannins and a vivacious acidity. A drink-me-now wine for sure and one can happily do so with a variety of dishes any day of the week. (Stacy Briscoe)

Where It's From

District / Sonoma County

View more wines from Sonoma County

Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco is one of California's most famous wine districts. While sometimes overshadowed by the reputation of its rival and neighbor, Napa Valley, Sonoma County has a longer history of viticulture and is twice the size of the former.

Thanks in part to a strong diversity of climates within Sonoma County, the district is home to outstanding examples from a whole host of grapes. Sonoma County Pinot Noirs are considered some of the finest in the state, and the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels are remarkable. Chardonnays come in a variety of styles thanks to the varying temperatures in Sonoma County, and Cabernets and Merlots also thrive here.

Some of the more celebrated viticultural areas in Sonoma County include Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Coast, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Carneros (parts of which fall within Napa Valley).

Region / California

View more wines from California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

View more wines from United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The 2021 Zinfandel Deaver Ranch is an attractive, mid-weight wine. Floral and savory accents lift a core of bright, red-fleshed fruit, with bright acids and driving tannins that add both presence and character. (Antonio Galloni)

RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Sep 2023
The 2021 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa is expressive, perfumed and a pleasure to drink—it offers restraint over power, detail over density and is one of those graceful California Zinfandels that seems more akin to Pinot Noir with its berry fruit and earthy layers. It has alluring scents of raspberry jam and tangerine with accents of lavender, mushrooms and fallen leaves, and the medium-bodied palate is supple and juicy with layer after layer of perfumed fruit. 1,630 cases were made. (Erin Brooks)

The 2021 Zinfandel Giuseppe & Luisa is fresh and pure, with ripe cherry, mixed berries, fresh herbs, and spice. Full-bodied and packed with notes of ripe apricot, blackberry, and mocha, it feels expansive on the palate, with ripe tannins and good freshness thoroughout. Drink 2023–2033. (Audrey Frick)

So concentrated and deep, this massively structured wine performs above its price range. Saturated with blackberries, black currants, espresso and dark chocolate flavors, it is firmly wrapped in a thick layer of tannin. Delicious now, it will become more complex and drinkable with time. Best from 2028–2040. (Jim Gordon)

Cassis, brambles and violets followed by graphite, cigar box and tobacco leaves with blanched nuts and cedar. Full-bodied with crisp acidity and firm yet finely grained tannins. Wonderful concentration and focus. Precisely framed wine with depth and length. Aged for 14 months in 40% new French oak. A blend of 98% cabernet sauvignon and 2% merlot. Try after 2027. This wine is fresh, bright with aromas of yellow apple, pear, honeysuckle and vanilla cream on the nose. The midpalate has flavors of grilled orange slices, baked pear and green apple, with wildflower honey wafting through the mineral, dry finish. Pair with spicy calamari.
