Critical Acclaim

RP91 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 31st Oct 2019

"The blend of 60% Malbec and 40% Syrah, the 2017 Natural is a brand that was born before the movement of “natural” wines, but now Ernesto Catena works in biodynamic agriculture and got interested in “natural” wines. The Syrah fermented with full clusters and fermented together with the destemmed Malbec. It has a young profile with some aromas of beeswax and honey, wild berries and herbs, pure and clean. It matured in concrete vats, and it didn’t see any oak to preserve the wild character. It’s juicy and has an approachable and soft palate with tasty flavors, good freshness and no heat. 72,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in December 2018." (91 pts.)

VN92 Vinous Oct 2020

"A blend of Malbec with 40% Syrah from Vistaflores, aged for eight months in 20% new oak, four-fifths French and one-fifth American. Bright purple in hue, it delivers aromas of red currant and raspberry plus hints of flesh and violet over an inviting mint note that is then followed by sweet spices kept in a pencil box. The palate is flavorsome, loose and sugary with a smooth, thirst-quenching fluidity." (92 pts.)

Mendoza is Argentina's biggest wine region, and with a footprint that spans a diverse geography, it's able to produce a wide array of wines. Chief amongst them are Argentina's ever-popular Malbecs, but you'll also find world-class Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, and more produced here. The geography is diverse, but tends to be mountainous, and the higher elevations play a sizable role in grape growing, providing cooler temperatures at night.

Argentina took the wine world spotlight in the late 20th century with its plush, smooth Malbec. While the popular red grape still reigns supreme, Argentine wineries are increasingly putting forth excellent examples of multiple varietals, all at the extraordinary bargains that make this region so accessible.

Now the fifth largest wine-producing nation in the world, Argentina enjoys high-altitude and low-humidity vineyard sites, comparatively unencumbered by insects and disease. Argentina’s unique terroir has captured the interest of such internationally celebrated winemakers as Paul Hobbs and Michel Rolland, both of whom have projects in the country.
