Tua Rita Syrah | Rosso Toscana 2007 / 750 ml.

Item#: 77732

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Oct 2010
The estate’s 2007 Syrah explodes from the glass with cracked black pepper, cured meats, blueberry jam and sweet spices. This is a remarkably muscular, full-throttle Syrah that offers exceptional balance and tons of complexity. Mineral-infused black fruit, graphite and crushed rocks are some of the nuances that inform the long, refreshing finish. In 2007, the Syrah is Tua Rita’s flagship wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2027.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2009
Displays loads of flowers, with licorice and mint combining with crushed dark fruits. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and vanilla, blueberry, licorice and coconut flavors on the finish. Long and very polished. Best after 2011. 290 cases made.
ST9393 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Sep/Oct 2010
Deep inky ruby. Complex nose melds the olive aromas of Crozes-Hermitage with the black pepper of Cote-Rotie, plus the superripe, almost roasted red fruits typical of the Suvereto area. Less powerful in the mouth than the nose suggests, with flavors of candied red fruits, dried herbs and bacon. Finishes broad and creamy, with ultra-smooth tannins and a saline nuance. Probably the best syrah ever made at Tua Rita.

Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

View more wines from Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

A really bright and crunchy red with blackberry and black cherry aromas and flavors. Fresh sage, too. Some fresh flowers. It’s medium-bodied with fine tannins. Crisp at the end. 30% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon, 20% syrah, 10% cabernet franc, and 10% sangiovese. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2024
Ripe, succulent cherry and raspberry fruit signals this appealing red. Flashes of earth and iron add detail, while chalky tannins appear on the finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Drink now through 2027. 12,500 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Lots of incense to the aromas with sandalwood and lavender. Currants, blackberries. and fresh herbs, too. Full-bodied and very rich, with a powerful, structured mid-palate and a long, long finish. A wine for the future. Needs four to five years to soften. Try after 2026. (James Suckling)
WE9696 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2023
The nose offers seemingly infinite layers, first showing tiny wild blueberries and mulberries, then violets and peonies, then a soft, soothing earth element comes in, with a final tangy, peppery aroma. On the palate, sweeter, darker berries spar with continued astringent notes, while silky tannins blanket everything with the distinctive mouthfeel of Tua Rita. (Danielle Callegari)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2023
A concentrated, supple red, delivering black currant, blackberry, iron, earth and toasty spice flavors. While backed by a spine of firm, dense tannins, this remains balanced and long in its youthful manner. Give this two to three more years in the cellar. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2042. 3,333 cases made, 400 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

The burst of Bing cherry and wild strawberry with rose petals and tar on the nose announces the equally exuberant palate of more fresh berries with earth tones of crushed rocks and topsoil, held up by sturdy but flexible tannins that promise more elegance with age. (Danielle Callegari)
JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, September 6, 2022
This pure sangiovese is fresh and very focused, with lovely fruit, from cherries to peaches. Medium-bodied with well-integrated, fine tannins. Bright, vivid acidity and a creamy finish. Drink now or hold. (James Suckling)
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 22, 2023
Presents cherry and raspberry fruit matched with iron, rooibos tea and orange peel. Turns austere and linear, with tight, dense tannins dominating the finish. Like two different wines today, so give this time to integrate. Best from 2025 through 2036. 3,333 cases made, 350 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

The aromas of violets, roses and lavender are captivating. Turns to spices and hazelnuts. So complex. This full-bodied wine grows and grows on the palate, yet it remains agile and fresh. Plenty of energy in the palate. More powerful than the perfect 2015. We will see which is better in the end. Great wine. Try in 2022.
RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2019
Wow. This is a beautiful year for Tua Rita’s legendary Merlot. The grapes were harvested early, between September 4th and the 6th, and spent 21 months in barrique. This wine is a perennial overachiever, and the 2016 Redigaffi is no exception. It has a remarkable persistence to the bouquet, along with tonic crispness and a velvety mouthfeel. It’s a complete and beautifully structured expression, most notable for its freshness and softness. This Redigaffi is still a bit closed, which leads me to think it is going to be a stunner when you finally retrieve it from your cellar in 5–10 years from now.
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Mar 2019
The 2016 Redigaffi is another absolutely compelling wine in this range. Explosive and opulent, the 2016 manages to be both spectacularly rich and yet also retain tremendous freshness. Blueberry jam, lavender, crushed rocks and sweet oak all build as this sumptuous yet structured Merlot shows off its considerable personality. In 2016, Redigaffi is energetic, persistent and also very classy. Drink it over the next decade or so.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2020
Supple, featuring pure black cherry, plum, wild herb, spice and licorice flavors that mesh with the well-integrated structure. Harmonious, remaining defined and juicy on the lingering finish. Though concentrated, this stays fresh and energetic, showing finesse and poise. Merlot. Drink now through 2033. 1,150 cases made, 90 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
