Stolpman Vineyards Estate Grown Syrah 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 99848

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 8th Dec 2022
The 2021 Syrah Estate is bright and approachable. Tarry touches give way to blackberry, blueberry, violet and bitter chocolate aromas. The palate is full-bodied and powerful with a youthfully dense core of fruit, finely grained tannins and bursts of acidity to refresh the floral finish. 2,500 cases were produced. (Erin Brooks)

Just bottled, the 2021 Syrah Estate Grown is a very pretty wine that shows both the influence of the cooler growing season and the lighter touch that defines the Stolpman wines these days. A rush of sweet floral and spice notes melds into a core of red/purplish berry fruit, licorice, leather and tobacco. The aromatics are especially beguiling. I imagine the 2021 will be even more expressive once it has had time to settle down. (Antonio Galloni)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The 2019 Syrah Estate Grown is superb. Bright, rich and juicy, the 2019 captures all the qualities that make Ballard Canyon wines so compelling. Blue/purplish fruit, scorched earth, licorice, chocolate and cured meats all saturate the palate. Some of the other Syrahs are more potent, but the Estate often has the best balance. Pure and lively aromas of purple flowers, wet rocks and damp soil show on the nose of this bottling, which will benefit from a bit of patience. Brisk flavors of raspberry, cola, chalk and lavender show much promise on the palate, which is tightly wrapped in staff tannins at this young age. Drink 2022–2034. (Matt Kettmann)

The 2021 Syrah-Grenache is another fabulous wine from Tyler and Rachel Eck. Bright, savory and vibrant, the 2021 bristles with energy from the get go. Lively acids run through a core of blue/purplish fruit, lavender, cloves and menthol. The 2021 is deep and full of flavor, yet also light on its feet. Today, it is positively stellar. (Antonio Galloni)

Crisp aromas of rose, carnation and black-raspberry sorbet are both juicy and elegant on the nose of this blend of 64% Syrah and 36% Grenache. The palate’s texture is very engaging and excellent for pairing with many foods, as flavors of hibiscus and more raspberry entertain through the finish. (Matt Kettmann)

JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 7/21/2023
Inky black, the 2021 Syrah Estate is resinous with pine sap, toasted black pepper oils, and black plum. Full-bodied, with gripping structure and good acidity throughout, it has an earthy profile of turned soil, black tea, and cherry pit. Offering a fresh lift of acidity, there seems to be a lot of potential here. Give it another 6–12 months in bottle, and this should be in a great place. (Audrey Frick)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2024
The 2021 Syrah is just as impressive from bottle as it was in barrel. A rush of dark plum, pomegranate and blood orange fruit saturates the palate. Strong savory and floral inflections follow, all supported by beams of tannin that give the wine its shape. Floral overtones reappear on the finish, adding brightness. This site at 2,500 feet in elevation consistently turns out super-distinctive wines. Give this a bit of time. (Antonio Galloni)

Lastly, the Syrah-dominated 2021 No 10 reveals a dense purple hue as well as a wild bouquet of blueberries, wild strawberries, ground pepper, game, iron, and assorted floral, meaty nuances. Stunningly complex even at this young age, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a pure, layered, seamless mouthfeel, ample tannins and underlying structure, and a finish that won’t quit. It will clearly be a match for the 2020, and this puppy is going to flirt with perfection at maturity. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th Nov 2023
The 2021 No. 10 is a blend of 93% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 2% Viognier. Grapes come from several vineyards, including Andremily’s new Slide Hill estate in Edna Valley, White Hawk, Larner, Harrison-Clarke, Kimsey and Alta Mesa Vineyards in Santa Barbara County. It was vinified with 50% whole clusters and matured for around 22 months in 65% new French barriques. Bottled August 12 and tasted October 25, it boasts a supermassive black hole of dark, perfumed fruit at the core. With time in the glass, it reveals pure accents of mint chocolate, vanilla bean, olives, lilac, tar and botanical nuances. The palate is incredibly concentrated, its graphite-laced fruit waiting to explode. All that depth of fruit is balanced by fireworks of fresh acidity and velvety tannins, and it has a highly latent finish. 900 cases were made, which will be sold as part of a three-bottle box set for $330. A few magnums were also made, which will be sold as part of a two-bottle set with the 2021 Mourvèdre. (Erin Brooks)

The 2021 Andremily No. 10 is one of the finest wines I have tasted at Andremily. Vibrant, focused and explosive, the 2021 possesses tremendous energy from start to finish. Dark red cherry, red plum, rose petal, cinnamon and new leather are some of the many notes that build as the 2021 opens in the glass. This is seriously impressive. (Antonio Galloni)
