Wine Grapes

| All Grapes: 100% Shiraz

From the Producer

The color is a deep brick red, with a garnet hue. The wine has fruit-driven, lifted aromas of dark cherries, cedar box, white pepper, sage and spice. The palate is generous and soft, with rich flavors of plum rhubarb, dark chocolate, caraway seed and fennel. The silky tannins, balanced with the natural acid, coat the mouth and leave a lingering finish.

Critical Acclaim

WS88 Wine & Spirits 02/21

"Order a case of this bright and spicy shiraz and you’ll get a brash young red with clean cherry flavors, light tannins and a hint of road tar on a summer’s day at the beach." (88 pts.)

WE90 Wine Enthusiast 10/1/2021

"This is rich and ripe but comforting, like a blanket on a cold winter’s night. There’s a well of cherry, plum, chocolate, mint, cedar and some savory spice. The palate is plush and satiny in texture, with a good lick of oak influence. The tannins are powerful but they don’t overwhelm. It’s a weeknight wine for the big red lovers in your life." (90 pts.)

South Australia

South Australia has a warm climate with little precipitation during the growing season, making it difficult for winemakers to irrigate their vineyards. This means smaller yields for the farmers, but the stress on the vines from the shortages of water also results in a higher quality fruit. For that reason, many of Australia's best wines come from South Australia and it's best known district, Barossa Valley. You'll find lots of Shiraz in South Australia, naturally, but you'll also find some great Cabernets, Rieslings, and Chardonnays.

Australia

When casual wine drinkers think of Australian wine, they probably think of the critter-laden labels of Yellow Tail and The Little Penguin, among others. And while large wine companies dominate the Australian list, there are also a great number of smaller producers creating highly-rated, award-winning wines.

The majority of Australian wine is produced in South Australia, with most of that (those “critter wines”) carrying a South Eastern Australia appellation. Subregions such as Barossa Valley, Coonawarra and McLaren Vale are home to smaller producers and higher quality wines. Victoria and New South Wales are also significant regions, and wines from Western Australia are reaching America in increasing numbers.

Though Shiraz is the grape most associated with Australia, they’ve also had great success with Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Riesling and Grenache.
