M. Chapoutier Le Pavillon Hermitage 2012 / 1.5 L.

Item#: 79817

RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2014
Sharing some similarities to the le Meal (yet its from a very different terroir), with its full-bodied, decadent, heavenly profile that somehow stays pure, poised and elegant, the 2012 Ermitage le Pavillon (767 cases) offers an extraordinary perfume of cassis, raspberries, crushed flowers, powdered rock and smoked earth. Coming all from the granite soils of the les Bessards lieu-dit, which produces some of the most muscular, concentrated wines on the planet, this serious 2012 is more approachable than either the 2009 or 2010, yet certainly is at the same level of quality. Give it 6–7 years in the cellar and enjoy it through 2042.
SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2015
This has terrific energy, with zesty loganberry, blackberry and boysenberry coulis flavors, pushed by a grippy dark ganache note. Bramble and anise accents fill the background, with a long, racy, acidity-driven finish that lets the fruit play out wonderfully. Should cruise in the cellar. Best from 2018 through 2030. 86 cases imported.
ST94+94–96 pts. - Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar - Mar/Apr 2014
Inky purple. Lively, incisive aromas of blackberry, cassis, smoky minerals, licorice and pungent flowers. Juicy and penetrating on the palate, with bright acidity adding lift to the intense black and blue fruit flavors. Becomes spicier and more floral with air, finishing with outstanding energy and thrust and youthful firming tannins.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2015
Saturated purple. Pungent smoke- and mineral-accented aromas of dark berry preserves, dried cherry, pipe tobacco, licorice and incense. Stains the palate with intense blackcurrant and bitter cherry flavors, becoming deeper, sweeter and spicier with air. Packs a very serious punch but comes off as lithe and precise, finishing with excellent length and silky, slowly emerging tannins.

Where It's From

Region / Rhone

View more wines from Rhone

Located along the path of the Rhone River, the Rhone wine region in southeastern France is beautiful and very productive. It's typically divided into two sub-regions, the Northern Rhone and Southern Rhone, and the wines produced in these sub-regions are very different from one another.

The southern Rhone is warm and dry, and produces robust, full-flavored red wines, oftentimes blends with Grenache used as the primary grape. Chateauneuf-du-Pape is without question the most celebrated town for wine production in the Southern Rhone region.

Meanwhile, the Northern Rhone features a cooler climate and steep-sloped vineyards. Syrah is the dominant red grape, and the wines are typically tannic, deeply colored, and highly acidic wines (which leads them to get better with age).

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2016
The 2012 Côte Rôtie La Mouline reminds me of the 2011 with its upfront, incredibly perfumed nose of spring flowers, cured meats, roasted herbs, olives and sweet cassis fruit. Full-bodied, beautifully textured, mouth-filling and already impossible to resist, it expands on the palate and I guarantee this beauty will put a smile on your face anytime over the coming two decades.
RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015
Possessing slightly more purity (but maybe not the complexity) than the 2011, the 2012 Cote Rotie la Mouline offers a heavenly perfume of cured meats, pecking duck, violets and cassis. This flows to a full-bodied, seamless, absolutely hedonistic Cote Rotie that has good acidity, ripe, polished tannin and a great finish. Of the three single parcel Cote Roties, it’s the most approachable, but will still drink beautifully for three decades or more.
SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2016
This has a brooding feel, with layers of warm tobacco leaf, roasted alder and juniper, and sweet tapenade leading the way, backed by a dense core of macerated plum, black currant and raspberry fruit. The long, smoldering finish shows terrific latent grip. Best from 2018 through 2030. 415 cases made.

RP9898 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2016
Similar to the La Mouline with its forward, incredibly sexy style, the 2012 Côte Rôtie La Turque (there’s 7% Viognier in the blend) offers a saturated purple color to go with meaty, smoky notes of cassis, cured meats, chocolate and roasted herbs. It’s a big mouthful of a wine, with full-bodied richness and a stacked mid-palate, but it has a seamless, weightless texture, perfectly ripe tannin and a blockbuster finish. I’d happily drink a glass today, but it should be at its finest from 2020-2046
SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2016
Features warm fig bread and ganache notes out front, followed by densely layered blackberry, plum and black currant reduction flavors. Ganache details echo through the finish, along with Turkish coffee and smoldering alder hints. A large-scale wine that should cruise in the cellar. Best from 2020 through 2040. 400 cases made.
RP96+96–98 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2015
Taking longer to develop in the glass than the exuberant and sexy la Mouline, the 2012 Cote Rotie la Turque (93% Syrah and 7% Viognier that will see four years in new oak) offers Bordeaux-like notes of lead pencil and graphite to go with olive, smoked herbs, pepper and ripe dark fruits. Possessing a touch less raw material than both the 2009 and 2010, it nevertheless has full-bodied richness, serious mid-palate depth, lots of sweet tannin and a fabulous finish. It will need 4–6 years of cellaring and drink well over the following two to three decades.

Dark fruit here. Attractive blackberry and mocha aromas and a gray, stony mineral thread. Smooth and elegant palate with creamy, rich, berry flavors and a smoky finish. Drink now.
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2018
Aged only in concrete, the 2016 Crozes Hermitage la Petite Ruche is a supple, creamy-textured offering that should be consumed over the next 4–5 years for its blueberry and blackberry fruit. Hints of tar and black olive add some savory complexity to this medium to full-bodied wine.
