Shebang! California Red Wine Eighth Cuvée / 750 ml.

Item#: 70830

RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2014
The finest value continues to be the terrific non-vintage Shebang Cuvée VIII, a blend of 60% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah and the rest a kitchen sink assortment of Grenache, Barbera, Alicante Bouchet, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignane. Made from purchased grapes and vinified in the winery, as opposed to buying bulk wine and blending it, it is indigenous yeast-fermented, and comes across as a high-octane, delicious/yummy, big, full-bodied red with lots of pepper and meaty notes intermixed with red and black fruits, earth, and spice. I believe some of the declassified lots from the Bedrock cuvées also end up in this blend. A terrific bargain, it should drink well for several years.

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).
