Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Country / Italy

View more wines from Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

A certified organic wine, the 2019 Chianti Classico is punchy and bright with true aromas of wild cherry, cassis and raspberry. Made with all Sangiovese, the wine proceeds with a light, easy-drinking style that makes it ideal for a weeknight pizza dinner. It wraps up with a lean-bodied style and fresh acidity to match the creamy cheese in your favorite foods. This has lots of lift and energy. 50,000 bottles were released. (Monica Larner)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022
This starts out rich, offering cherry, plum, earth and leather notes, with an open texture. Firms up, with the right amount of tannins and juicy acidity on the finish. Drink now through 2025. 7,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2019 Manolibera is laced with crushed red berry fruit, spice, mint, sweet pipe tobacco and orange peel. This effusive mid-weight red is a real charmer. I especially like the feeling of transparency here. (Antonio Galloni)

Ripe berry and cherry aromas with some vanilla undertones. It’s full and juicy with a big palate and a creamy finish. Layered, if a little old-school. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2023
The bouquet on the 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Silineo opens like you’re chiseling into an ashen stone to find a mix of black currants and exotic curries. It’s soft-textured, more lifted and finessed than expected, with juicy blackberry fruits offset by sour citrus and savory herbal tones. Grippy tannins linger under an air of violets and lavender as the 2019 finishes structured, yet not severely so. Silineo is primarily Sangiovese with a bit of Merlot and Corolino. It spends seven months refining in tonneaux, followed by another eleven months in large Slavonian oak casks. (Eric Guido)

Plums, spices, mushrooms and dried herbs on the nose. It’s full-bodied with fine tannins. Juicy and textured with tangy acidity and spicy character. Flavorful finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink now.

This is bright with cherry, raspberry, iron and earth flavors, with tangy acidity and light-grained tannins. Balanced and firm, this ends with sour cherry and thyme accents. Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino. Drink now through 2028. 5,500 cases made, 1,800 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2019 Chianti Classico is a powerhouse. Black cherry, plum, leather, spice, scorched earth, mocha and dried leaves abound in this strapping Chianti Classico. This needs time to come together following its bottling a few months prior. This is an especially strapping Chianti Classico, but it is full of character. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral and earthy undertones that add nuance. (Antonio Galloni)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2023
This is sanguine, earthy and warm on the nose with aromas of cranberry, gunflint, soil and herbs that continue on the palate, where they’re given more depth from notes of chocolate and coffee and chalky, tense tannins. (Danielle Callegari)
