Where It's From
Region / Tuscany
There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.
Country / Italy
Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.
Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Bright and fruity, offering cherry, strawberry, rose and Mediterranean scrub flavors. Shows no shortage of structure, remaining balanced and long. Reveals tobacco and mineral elements on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2042. 26,700 cases made, 6,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
Reverting to a spicy and savory taste profile, the 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Il Grigio (with an ample 320,000 bottles made) shows a dark, mid-weight texture with extra heft that comes in the form of baked plum, candied cherry and spice. This is another good value wine from one of the most beautiful properties (and luxury hotels) in Italy. (Monica Larner)

A juicy and pretty wine with berries, chocolate, and bark. Subtle. Medium-bodied with fine tannins that are slightly chewy and austere now but will soften nicely with age. Better after 2025. (James Suckling)
A solidly built red introduced by aromas of mint, lavender and wild rosemary. Shows cherry, raspberry, earth, iron, sanguine and tobacco flavors allied to an almost viscous texture as this cruises to the long finish. Impressive now, yet will be better in three to five years. Best from 2026 through 2045. 5,000 cases made, 2,200 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
In a bottle with a black label, the Fèlsina 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga shows an open-knit quality with soft fruit flavors of dark cherry and baked plum. Those fruit flavors are followed by pretty mineral notes and light spice. That openness and those sweet cherry flavors are characteristic of the warm 2020 growing season. The wine finishes with bright acidity that is typical of Sangiovese. (Monica Larner)

The nose is floral and sweet, but refreshing thanks to clean, balancing aromas of mint and dirt. The palate takes that freshness a step further, to a light, bouncy, almost astringent level. Precocious tannins are young yet dense and supportive, while jubilant acid sings. (Danielle Callegari)
Released in June 2023, the medium red 2020 Rosso Di Montalcino is open aromatically already at this stage, revealing notes of ripe red cherries along with a very pretty floral perfume of fresh flowers and wild fresh herbs. Medium-bodied and rounded, with a very elegant feel, sweet, fine tannins, and a pleasing fresh ripeness, it’s a lovely wine with a lot of charm now. It has very clean fruit aromas and profile, with an open feel and a lovely sanguine mineral tone of the finish. This is going to be a Rosso with a wide window of drinking over the coming 8–10 years. (Audrey Frick)
Generous aromas of ripe strawberries and cherries, turning to flowers and stones with some crushed cement. Medium body with firm tannins that fill the mouth, as well as lively acidity and depth of fruit. Savory and almost salty at the end. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
The 2020 Rosso di Montalcino is simply stunning, lifting from the glass with vivid raspberry and cherry notes complemented by sweet rose, clove and cedar. This model of purity is silky and refined, with a dusty feel to its ripe red berry fruits. Orange notes adds contrast toward the close. It finishes structured and long, still remarkably pure, with a slightly bitter tinge that slowly fades. This fabulous Rosso from Biondi-Santi shows the work done over the past years. (Eric Guido)
Displays cherry, strawberry, floral and black pepper flavors. Though on the elegant side, this bright, juicy red offers firm tannins and a peppery finish. Drink now. 1,959 cases made, 500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Super sticky here, giving you all you ask for in a quality Vin Santo. Toffee, dried fruit and nutty notes on the nose. Full, viscous feel on the palate with a twist of citrus that turns to salt on the finish. Long and delicious! Nicely done. Enjoy now or hold for as long as you like.
Made with dried Sangiovese (80%), Trebbiano (10%) and Malvasia Toscana (10%), this opens with aromas of candied orange zest, maple syrup and dried fig. The concentrated, smooth palate offers eucalyptus, honey, black cherry jam and toasted almond that carry on to the long finish.

A well-defined and typical Chianti Rufina with aromas and flavors of berries and cherries, as well as darker, savory notes of bark and dried herbs. Medium body and grainy tannins that have a dusty-oak coating that absorbs the fruit flavors nicely and gives a long, firm and a slightly bitter, licoricy finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but will be better integrated in 2023.
Made with organically farmed grapes—90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino—this opens with aromas of black-skinned berry, underbrush and leather. The fragrant, balanced palate offers black cherry, clove and licorice alongside firm, polished tannins. Drink 2023–2030. (Kerin O’Keefe)
