I Veroni I Domi Chianti Rufina 2020 / 750 ml.

Item#: 71695

JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, November 4, 2021
A well-defined and typical Chianti Rufina with aromas and flavors of berries and cherries, as well as darker, savory notes of bark and dried herbs. Medium body and grainy tannins that have a dusty-oak coating that absorbs the fruit flavors nicely and gives a long, firm and a slightly bitter, licoricy finish. From organically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but will be better integrated in 2023.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022
Made with organically farmed grapes—90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo and 5% Colorino—this opens with aromas of black-skinned berry, underbrush and leather. The fragrant, balanced palate offers black cherry, clove and licorice alongside firm, polished tannins. Drink 2023–2030. (Kerin O’Keefe)

Where It's From

Appellation / Chianti

View more wines from Chianti

The Chianti region in central Tuscany produces the internationally-famous red wine of the same name. With a long history, the wines of Chianti have evolved through the years. At one point, Chianti was typically a blend of Sangiovese (the primary red grape used in the region) and several other grapes, including white grapes like Trebbiano and Malvasia. As wine trends and palettes have changed, most growers have eliminated the white grapes from their Chianti since they often caused the wines to be too light. Likewise, Chianti used to be recognized for it's distinct, squatty, straw-covered bottles, but producers have moved away from that since those bottles grew to be recognized as emblematic of a lesser quality wine.

All that aside, there are many world-class wines produced in Chianti, especially in the Chianti Classico zone located in the center of the region. Here you'll find medium-bodied, dry reds with firm tannins and high acidity. These wines are tremendous for pairing with Italian foods of all sorts.

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Country / Italy

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

A creamy and textured Chianti with dark cherries, dark plums, chocolate and cedar on the nose. Full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. Structured with a velvety texture and a rich core of fruit on the mid-palate. Long finish. From organically grown grapes. Best from 2025. (James Suckling)

Super sticky here, giving you all you ask for in a quality Vin Santo. Toffee, dried fruit and nutty notes on the nose. Full, viscous feel on the palate with a twist of citrus that turns to salt on the finish. Long and delicious! Nicely done. Enjoy now or hold for as long as you like.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2022
Made with dried Sangiovese (80%), Trebbiano (10%) and Malvasia Toscana (10%), this opens with aromas of candied orange zest, maple syrup and dried fig. The concentrated, smooth palate offers eucalyptus, honey, black cherry jam and toasted almond that carry on to the long finish.

JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 7, 2023
Violets and lavender with dark fruit and hints of dark chocolate. Sophisticated nose. Medium-bodied with fine tannin structure that gives this finesse and beauty. It’s very long and goes on for minutes. Precision. 68% sangiovese with the rest in cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon. Drinkable but better in three or four years. (James Suckling)
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Aug 2023
The 2020 Tignanello is so primary, so intensely fruit-driven, that it almost tastes like a barrel sample. A burst of red Sangiovese fruit opens first, followed by hints of blood orange, cinnamon, spice, dried flowers and mocha later. Time in the glass brings out striking dimension. In 2020, Tignanello is wonderfully sleek and racy, with fine tannins that lie below a core of bright, sculpted fruit. The balance here is just sublime. I can’t wait to revisit the 2020 with age. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2023
Newly on the market now, the 2020 Tignanello shows a gorgeous bouquet with an upfront and accessible personality. Right off the bat, you get dark cherry, dried raspberry, spice, toasted almond and citrusy blood orange. The blend is normally 75% to 80% Sangiovese with 7% Cabernet Franc. The grape in between, making up 13% to 18%, is Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage is very pretty and won’t require a long wait. The tannins are sweet and silky. “Tignanello proves itself as a great vineyard site in both the challenging and the classic years,” says Managing Director Renzo Cotarella. Annual production falls between 300,000-350,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2023
A concentrated red, with black cherry, blackberry, iron, tobacco and vanilla flavors framed by sweet spices and toast accents. Ends with mouthcoating tannins, yet is pretty well-balanced overall. Alluring and classy. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2045. (Bruce Sanderson)

Notes of red fruit, fine herbs and sweet spices on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Fruity, with a juicy edge and a lively finish. Tight at the end. 100% sangiovese. Drink or hold.
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Sep 30, 2022
An elegant and enticing red, this features cherry, strawberry and floral aromas and flavors accented by earth and rhubarb. Firm and lightly astringent on the finish—but food will resolve that. Best from 2023 through 2028. 35,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Lots of sour-cherry and citrus aromas follow through to a medium body with light tannins and a clean, bright finish. Drink now.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
A vibrant, well-defined red, with cherry, raspberry, floral and mineral flavors fused to a linear profile and firm structure. A bit austere still, yet the lasting impression is ripe fruit. Drink now through 2028. 3,750 cases made, 1,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/28/2023
As with the other two wines presented from Gagliole, the 2020 Chianti Classico Rubiolo is entirely produced from Sangiovese. It is the most lifted and red-fruited of the three wines, and has aromas of candied strawberry, raspberry, crushed roses, and licorice. It is medium bodied and approachable, with silky tannins, juicy red berries, and pleasant refreshment without austerity. This is a polished and altogether easy-drinking style to enjoy over the next 5–7 years. (Audrey Frick)
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Jul 2022
The 2020 Chianti Classico Rubiolo is a juicy, easygoing wine to drink now and over the next handful of years, while the fruit remains vibrant. Sweet red cherry, tobacco, spice and leather lend lovely exuberance. This succulent Chianti Classico is sure to be a crowd pleaser. (Antonio Galloni)
