Quite light in the glass, this bottling offers fresh, slightly tart aromas of strawberry and wet slate on the fun nose. The palate picks up more earthy tones of dust and leather, though that tart red-fruit element carries into the finish. (Matt Kettmann)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

2019 / 750 ml.
The 2019 Pinot Noir Cahill Lane Vineyard is elegant, understated and classy. Silky tannins and mid-weight structure give the 2019 so much appeal. As with all of these wines, the flavors are bright and punchy, with plenty of red berry, white pepper, mint and citrus character.

Pale ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has fragrant scents of cranberry sauce and pomegranate, with tones of orange peel, dried herbs, potpourri and Angostura bitters. The light-bodied palate is chalky and fresh, its slender frame packed with sweet berry fruits, and it finishes long with nuanced perfume. (Erin Brooks)
From a majority of coastal vines, this wine opens in a pretty array of blood orange and raspberry notes. With a bit of welcome funk and youthful tannin, it shows moderate acidity and an elegant style. (Virginie Boone)

The Estate Vineyards
2019 / 750 ml.
The 2019 Pinot Noir The Estate Vineyards is bright, aromatic and wonderfully translucent. Always a great introduction to these wines, the Estate in 2019 is especially perfumed and nuanced. Crushed rose petal, mint and sweet red berry fruit are all finely cut. The 2019 is a bit more restrained than in most vintages, but the Russian River has also so much natural exuberance, so that contrast works so well here.

A well-rounded, easily enjoyable sparkling rosé, this offers a persistent fine-bubbled mousse structure, resulting in an overall smooth drinking experience. You will find nuanced aromas and flavors of citrus blossom, grapefruit, watermelon, white strawberries, dewy morning grass, and a wet stone minerality, with just a hint of those autolytic toasty notes. The finish lingers with additional florals of pink roses and fresh daisies. (Stacy Briscoe)
Offers pretty peach and strawberry flavors and a luscious, lingering texture as this takes on spice and orange peel accents on the crisp yet plush finish. Drink now. 19,350 cases made. (Tim Fish)
More savory than sweet and wonderfully complex, the 2019 Brut Rosé North Coast bursts from the glass with toasty notes of fresh baguette and almonds, giving way to crushed apples and gingery spice. This rushes the palate with an elegant bead of silken bubbles. It is creamy yet energetic, and mineral-tinged orchard fruits add further tension. The 2019 leaves the senses wonderfully refreshed through the long, crunchy finale, as white strawberry and spice cookie notes fade. The Brut Rosé is a pleasure bomb, yet it’s wonderfully balanced throughout. (Eric Guido)

Aromas and flavors lead with a wet stone minerality and flintiness straight away, closely followed by autolytic notes of fresh, crusty bread. Slowly revealed are the vivacious fruits of lemon, lime, green apple and orange zest, complemented by a cherry-blossom floral note. The finish is a perfect culmination of all, crescendoing into a lingering finale. (Stacy Briscoe)
Fragrant and luscious, with strawberry and peach flavors accented by gingerbread and almond. Glides on the long, crisp finish. Drink now. 9,140 cases made. (Tim Fish)

The 2019 Pinot Noir Ferrington is resinous with medicinal herbs, black cherry fruit, and beet root. The palate is full and rounded with forward fruit, leading into savory notes of raspberry seed, wooded spice, and red plum skin. More structured in style, allow for a year or two in bottle and drink over the following 15 or so years. (Audrey Frick)
Features expressive cherry and raspberry coulis flavors carried by very lively acidity. Judicious red licorice and floral notes gild the finish, letting the fruit play out nicely. Drink now through 2024. 282 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The appellation 2019 Pinot Noir is brilliant, and I like it every bit as much as many of the more expensive single vineyards. Spiced red fruits, loamy earth, leather, and subtle smoke notes give way to a medium-bodied, textured, incredibly charming Pinot Noir that already offers pleasure yet has the balance to keep for at least 7–8 years.
