Seabiscuit by Paul Lato | Zotovich Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017 / 750 ml.

Item#: 93019

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Sep 2019
The 2017 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit Zotovich Vineyard comes from 17-year-old vines planted in diatomaceous earth and sandy loam, and the wine aged for 17 months in 60% new French oak. It’s medium ruby-purple in the glass and gives up wonderfully pure aromas of blueberries, spiced cranberry sauce, rhubarb, red cherry, raspberry and strawberry preserves, black cherries, peppered charcuterie, woodsmoke, dried rose petal and orange peel. Light to medium-bodied, it explodes in the mouth with flavor layers supported by firm, finely grained tannins and juicy freshness and finishes long, spicy and energetic. A powerful but elegant expression. 300 cases were made.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019
The 2017 Pinot Noir Seabiscuit is laced with crushed red berry, rose petal, mint and sweet spice. Airy and light on its feet, with tremendous perfume, the Seabiscuit is the most delicate and gracious wine in the range. The 2017 offers a super appealing mix of brightness and energy. Best of all, it will drink well upon release.

This offers creamy raspberry, currant and wild plum flavors, supported by medium-grained tannins. The spicy finish lingers with chocolate notes and hints of mint. Drink now through 2023. 5,024 cases made. (Kim Marcus)

Cooked berry and cherry aromas meet with slate and turned loam on the nose of this bottling. Dark-berry flavors blend with campfire smoke and more rich earth on the palate.

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 4th Feb 2021
The 2017 Pinot Noir Estate offers savory, layred aromas of earth and laurel, charcuterie and orange peel, with amaro-laced red and black berries. The palate is grainy and fresh, with a kaleidoscope of spices and a very long finish. It’s incredibly appealing now but will benefit from a long decant. 963 cases produced.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2020
The 2017 Pinot Noir is a very pretty, open-knit wine. Crushed rose petal, sweet red berry, mint, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco give the 2017 striking aromatic presence. In 2017, the Mount Eden Pinot is a decidedly forward, silky wine that looks like it will offer its best drinking sooner rather than later. The 2017 was done with 33% whole clusters and saw 50% new barrels.
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 11/1/2020
There’s intense pine and redwood spice to the nose and palate of this bottling, which begins with aromas of cooked cranberry, vanilla and nutmeg. There’s a splash of acid on the tip of the sip, where smoked strawberry and grilled berry flavors meet with oregano and singed oak smoke.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2020
Notes of cedar and wild spice accent the ripe, well-knit red berry, boysenberry and dark plum flavors. Coffeeberry accents chime in on the broad and juicy finish. Drink now through 2024. 999 cases made. (Kim Marcus)

VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2018
The 2016 Chardonnay Belle de Jour Duvarita Vineyard is a very pretty and expressive wine. In this vintage, the Duvarita possesses striking texture and creaminess, with a slightly more tropical profile than in the past. Orange peel, vanilla, hazelnut and spices are some of the signatures. The 2016 finishes with terrific aromatic presence and a freshness that seems to grow as it sits in the glass.

le Souvenir by Paul Lato | Sierra Madre Vineyard Chardonnay 2014 / 750 ml.

Sierra Madre Vineyard Chardonnay
2014 / 750 ml.

Item #: 83956

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2016
Made all from the Wente clone, the 2014 Chardonnay le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard saw more new oak than most of the releases and spent 14 months in 70% new barrels. Paul has a two-acre parcel in this site, which is located in the Santa Maria Valley, and he first started working with fruit from this site in 2007. This 2014 is medium-bodied, ultra-fine and utterly seamless on the palate, with textbook notes of buttered apples, stone fruits, white flowers and hints of minerality. Every speck of new oak has been completely absorbed by this sensational Chardonnay, and it should drink gorgeously for 5–7 years. I don’t have any experience with aged examples of this cuvee, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it keep for longer either.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2016
The 2014 Chardonnay Le Souvenir Sierra Madre Vineyard is the brightest and most finely cut of Paul Lato’s Chardonnays. Lemon peel, white flowers, slate, white pepper and new French oak are pushed forward. The tense style of the site comes through, but the French oak is at the limit for what the wine’s mid-weight structure can handle.

The Prospect by Paul Lato | Sierra Madre Vineyard Pinot Noir 2017 / 750 ml.

Sierra Madre Vineyard Pinot Noir
2017 / 750 ml.

Item #: 93018

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 12th Sep 2019
Grapes for this wine come from 24-year-old vines planted in sandy soils, and it was aged for 15 months in 50% new French oak. Pale to medium ruby in color, the 2017 Pinot Noir The Prospect Sierra Madre Vineyard has a fantastic nose of pure, bright fruits — fresh blueberry, cranberry, red and black cherry and redcurrant — and licorice with perfumed earth, autumn leaves, cinnamon stick, rose petal, orange oil and a wicked spicy undercurrent with hints of dust, peppercorn, prosciutto and nutmeg. Beautifully delineated aromas! The palate is light to medium-bodied and wonderfully silky with oodles of flavor layers. It’s framed by very ripe, fine, pixelated tannins and seamless freshness, finishing very long and spicy. This is absolutely gorgeous. It’s so approachable and delicious now, but try and keep your paws off for a bit because this will be stunning in a few years. 150 cases were made.
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2019
The Pinot Noir The Prospect is super-finessed in this vintage, with striking floral top notes, red cherry fruit and spice notes. Delicate and understated, with lovely balance, the 2017 has so much to offer. This is an especially nuanced, gracious style. Silky tannins round out the close.

Still aging in 100% new barrels, the 2016 Syrah il Padrino Bien Nacido Vineyard is also inky colored and has a distinct marine-like character in its smoked black fruits, crushed rock, iodine, and peppery herb aromas and flavors. It’s deep, rich and concentrated, yet stays fresh and balanced. As always, it’s in the same qualitative ballpark as the Larner Vineyard yet has a singular, distinctive character. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Larner Vineyard Syrah
2014 / 750 ml.

Item #: 83966

RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2016
More sweetly fruited and perfumed than the Bien Nacido Syrah, the 2014 Syrah Cinematique Larner Vineyard is a gorgeously complex Syrah that offers tons of sweet black cherries, framboise, incense and olive aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, utterly seamless, impeccably balanced and insanely pure, this sensational Syrah needs a decant if drinking anytime soon, and will continue to drink brilliantly for another decade.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2016
The 2014 Syrah Cinématique Larner Vineyard offers up a classic expression of Ballard Canyon in its interplay of rich, racy fruit and more savory nuances. A host of black olive, rose petal, mint and exotic spice notes punctuate the finish. The Larner stands out for its density, creaminess and exceptional overall balance. There is so much to like here.

Solomon Hills Vineyard Pinot Noir
2014 / 750 ml.

Item #: 83958

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2016
From a top site in the Santa Maria Valley that’s just to the southwest of Bien Nacido, the 2014 Pinot Noir Solomon Hills Vineyard Suerte comes mostly from clone 115, but has 25% each from 667 and 777. Aged 15 months in 75% new French oak, it’s another lighter colored beauty that offers upfront, fresh and fruit-driven notes of strawberries, framboise, violets and spring flowers. Elegant, layered, pure and with good acidity and fine tannin, it’s already hard to resist, yet should evolve nicely on its balance.
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Sep 2016
The 2014 Pinot Noir Suerte Solomon Hills Vineyard is beautifully layered and nuanced throughout. Sweet red cherry, plum, spice, mint, lavender and rose petals give the 2014 much of its translucent, detailed personality. All the elements come together nicely in an attractive, mid-weight Pinot that balances the juicy Solomon Hills fruit character with lovely precision.
