Where It's From
Region / Burgundy
In eastern France lies the region of Burgundy, one of the legendary wine regions of the world. Burgundy, home to some of the most expensive wines in the world, is famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With very few exceptions, red Burgundy is made from 100% Pinot Noir. And the reigning white of Burgundy, Chardonnay, can vary incredibly in style depending on where it was produced within the region.
Country / France
The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.
Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertir Lavaux Saint-Jacques 1er Cru contains 30% whole bunch with 50% new oak. It has a vibrant, tightly wound bouquet with wet limestone/petrichor scents complementing the shimmering black cherry and orange zest scents. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins, fine acidity, veering more towards the red fruit profile with a pinch of brown spices on the finish. Long in the mouth, very classy. (Neal Martin)
Aromas of red berries, plums, rose petals, sweet spices and forest floor introduce the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, velvety and seamless wine that’s layered and concentrated, with a vibrant core of fruit and a long, penetrating finish. Opulent, juicy and expressive, delivering cherry, raspberry, plum and spice flavors. Vibrant and precise, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, spices and mineral. Best from 2025 through 2039. 450 cases made, 50 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
The 2020 Pernand-Vergelesses Les Fichots 1er Cru is light-bodied and gracious yet shows understated persistence. Sweet dried cherry, tobacco, mint, cedar and spice all grace this soft, open-knit Pernand 1er. Like all the 2021s here, the Fichots comes across as a wine to drink young. (Neal Martin)

Tons of forest-berry aromas and ample body for this appellation, but also crisp, mineral acidity that gives this quite a kick at the long, vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

The deep nose of amarena cherry pulls you into this very ripe and concentrated Beaune 1er Cru, with a wonderfully creamy texture that ripples sensually over your palate, before the wine glides off into the velvety distance. Beneath the delicious surface this has a massive structure that will give it a very long life. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
Energetic aromas of dark fruits, but with high tones of tangerine peel, wild berries, rose, limestone and peppercorn on the nose. The palate is incredibly floral with profuse rose and black cherries. Tannins slowly crawl and coat the roof and front of the palate, leaving traces of a black tea leaf that gently coats with what feels like boysenberry. Delicious with a bit of aeration. (Anna-Christina Cabrales)
A ripe red, with blackberry, boysenberry and plum flavors shaded by earth and toasty oak. Lacks integration now, with the tannins flexing their muscles on the finish. Better with air. Best from 2025 through 2040. 100 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Bursting with aromas of cherries, sweet red berries and petals, the 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin Ma Cuvée is medium to full-bodied, ample and open-knit, with melting tannins and an enveloping core of fruit. It’s a generous, gourmand wine that derives from holdings in the south of the appellation, below the band of grands crus. (William Kelley)
The 2020 Gevrey-Chambertin “Ma Cuvée” comes from two parcels in La Justice and Platière, with one-third whole-bunch, has a mixture of red and black fruit mixed with touch of wet clay on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with a slight creaminess on the entry, fire acidity, quite rich but minerally and tensile on the finish. This is definitely worth seeking out. (Neal Martin)

The 2020 Givry 1er Cru La Grande Berge unwinds in the glass with aromas of rich berries, loamy soil, licorice, spices and forest floor. Medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, it’s one of the tauter, more structured wines in the range, concluding with a mineral finish. This will merit at least a little patience. (William Kelley)
