Reveals lightly mulled raspberry and cherry fruit flavors that move through slowly, with a hint of blood orange providing spine while singed sandalwood and red tea weave through the finish. Drink now through 2023. 4,442 cases made. (James Molesworth)
WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2021
Sour cherry, dusty earth and toasted sage aromas kick off this countywide cuvée. There’s a ripe landing to the palate, where persistent strawberry flavors slowly dry up toward earth and herbs. (Matt Kettmann)

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Winemaker Cory Waller is in epic stride at this property right now, and this bottling is solid case in point. It’s light in the glass, with aromas of fresh and dried cherry, mild game and dusty chaparral on the elegant nose. The palate perfectly captures ripe fruit yet retains lovely and rustic layers of tar and baking spice. The compelling texture pushes it into the next league. (Matt Kettmann)

The 2019 Pinot Noir The North Slope Vineyard offers lovely mid-palate depth to play off strong floral, savory notes. I find the North Slope a bit uncharacteristic in its vegetal character, which I suspect is related to machine harvesting for some of this fruit.

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
Pale ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has fragrant scents of cranberry sauce and pomegranate, with tones of orange peel, dried herbs, potpourri and Angostura bitters. The light-bodied palate is chalky and fresh, its slender frame packed with sweet berry fruits, and it finishes long with nuanced perfume. (Erin Brooks)

From a majority of coastal vines, this wine opens in a pretty array of blood orange and raspberry notes. With a bit of welcome funk and youthful tannin, it shows moderate acidity and an elegant style. (Virginie Boone)

The 2019 Pinot Noir Cahill Lane Vineyard is elegant, understated and classy. Silky tannins and mid-weight structure give the 2019 so much appeal. As with all of these wines, the flavors are bright and punchy, with plenty of red berry, white pepper, mint and citrus character.

Fine-textured and minerally, offering dried berry and cherry flavors that show a light toastiness, with loam and sanguine accents on the long, richly spiced finish. Drink now through 2024. 25,790 cases made. (Kim Marcus)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Pinot Noir Grace Benoist Ranch is brawny, deep and full of explosive energy. Expressive floral and savory overtones play off a core of succulent dark fruit. Blueberry, sage, lavender and licorice are all kicked up in this complex, extroverted Carneros Pinot. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Etude’s big-volume Pinot offering, the 2019 Pinot Noir Grace Benoist Ranch (more than 25,000 cases) offers up black cherries and red raspberries, plus a hint of cola. Medium to full-bodied, it’s plump and pleasantly silky, but it’s less intense and structured than the more limited-production wines. (Joe Czerwinski)

JD9393 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
The appellation 2019 Pinot Noir is brilliant, and I like it every bit as much as many of the more expensive single vineyards. Spiced red fruits, loamy earth, leather, and subtle smoke notes give way to a medium-bodied, textured, incredibly charming Pinot Noir that already offers pleasure yet has the balance to keep for at least 7–8 years. Pleasant aromas of dark berry, toasted wood, coffee bean and roasted cocoa show on the nose of this bottling. Chalky tannins make for firm tension on the palate, where those berry and cocoa tones ride fresh acidity into the finish. (Matt Kettmann)

Quite open in feel, with sassafras, cherry compote and plum jam notes backed by a hint of bramble on the finish. Fan-worthy for its expressive fruit. Drink now. 900 cases made. (James Molesworth)
