Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny Les Sentiers 2016 / 750 ml.

Item#: 92701

RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2017
The 2016 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers has a light, quite conservative, tertiary bouquet with touches of cedar and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity and a low-key but pleasingly precise finish that blossoms with aeration. Very fine.
VN89+89–91 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2018
Healthy dark red. Cool, slightly medicinal aromas of crushed raspberry, espresso and flowers. Dense, sappy wine with good fullness but also a cool quality to its slightly brooding red cherry fruit. Here the broad tannins are a bit dustier and less elegant than those of the Feusselottes but the finish shows good spicy, floral lift. This doesn’t quite come alive today, perhaps because it doesn’t possess quite the intensity provided by the seriously frosted parcels in 2016.

Where It's From

Region / Burgundy

View more wines from Burgundy

In eastern France lies the region of Burgundy, one of the legendary wine regions of the world. Burgundy, home to some of the most expensive wines in the world, is famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With very few exceptions, red Burgundy is made from 100% Pinot Noir. And the reigning white of Burgundy, Chardonnay, can vary incredibly in style depending on where it was produced within the region.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

A close neighbor to the famed Clos Saint-Jacques, this vineyard comes from the Louis Jadot domaine. It has plenty of the power of Gevrey-Chambertin, with its firm tannins and black fruits. The potential for ripe opulence will develop as the wine ages. Drink from 2026.
RP92+92+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Jan 2019
From bottle, the 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Estournelles Saint-Jacques (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing beautifully, offering up a youthful but expressive bouquet of dark wild berries, currant leaf, coniferous forest floor and subtle hints of peony. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and satiny with a generous core of cool, sappy fruit, melting tannins and a beautifully defined finish. It’s a beautifully complete, elegant Estournelles Saint-Jacques that confirms its terrific performance from barrel. While it’s sufficiently supple to be approachable now, a decade of patience will be rewarded by considerably greater complexity.

Bright, full red. Less floral and high-pitched on the nose than the Lavaux Saint-Jacques, and not currently showing that wine’s crushed-stone minerality. In a more medicinal, muscular style, conveying a strong impression of punch but not the delicacy or detail of the Lavaux. Rich and filled in but more about savory minerality and soil tones than flowers and spices. It’s possible that this sample was drawn from a less-fresh barrel; I look forward to following up on this wine from bottle next year.
