Lange Classique Pinot Noir 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 96642

WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2022
Made with various traditional and Dijon clones grown in north Willamette Valley vineyards, this Pinot Noir saw time in 25% new French oak. The aromas of red cherries and cranberries unite with dried rose petals and Christmas spices to create a heady perfume. The tannins are sturdy, and the acidity is elevated, which is good given how much fruit is here. Flavors like tart red raspberries, not-quite-ripe marionberries, hibiscus tea and bittersweet dark chocolate coat the palate in a pleasing fashion. (Michael Alberty)
JD8989 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 10/19/2022
Bottled under screwcap, the 2021 Pinot Noir Classique is perfumed with crushed raspberry, wildflowers, and pine. It is softly textured, with medium body, and is ripe with mixed red and blue berries, a lightly savory note of iron richness, and a clean, floral finish. This is a very pretty and approachable intro to the range to drink over the next 5–6 years. (Audrey Frick)

Oregon didn't burst onto the wine scene until the 1980s, but it has since carved out a name for itself as a world-class region for cooler weather wines like Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It's most famous for the former, with many critically-acclaimed Pinot Noirs originating in the region. The Willamette Valley is Oregon's most famous and most productive region. This is a steal for the way its savor and black cherry collide on the palate. It starts off with an herbal riff on cut-leaf tobacco. The tannins are firm and a touch furry, but the wine’s acids buoy the flavors into a bright burst on the finish.

Impressively fresh aromas of red cherries and cherry pie with a stony and leafy edge, hints of chalk and raspberry compote. The nose is very expressive with some more cryptic flashes. The palate has the same dichotomy with such plush, ripe red cherries to start out with. It has a supple, succulent feel with a sense of levity in this warmer vintage. Then, the velvety mid palate builds to a firm, commanding yet fine finish, reminding us where we really are. Power with purpose here. Best from 2023. (James Suckling)
VN9494 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
Glistening ruby-red. An expansive, complex bouquet evokes ripe red and blue fruits, candied lavender and succulent herbs, along with an overlay of exotic spices. Sappy, penetrating boysenberry, raspberry, cherry cola, spicecake and mocha flavors deepen through the midpalate with no loss of energy. Finely wrought tannins add gentle grip to an impressively long, smooth finish that leaves resonating cherry and floral notes behind. 40% new French oak. (Josh Raynolds)

The first bottle was lightly corked, which dampened the fruit and attenuated the finish. The second bottle was fine, with a mix of mulberry, blueberry and plum, along with ample backing acidity. Aged in 40% new French oak, it’s likely to benefit from a couple more years of cellaring. (Paul Gregutt)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Reserve pours a richer hue of deep ruby and offers a more luxurious feel, with well-integrated oak spice. It lifts with warming notes of cedar, cinnamon, red cherry, and freshly turned soil. It is juicy and round without being heavy, with ripe raspberry compote, lavender, and toasted cardamom perfume. This is a lovely wine to hold 2–3 years and drink 2024–2032. (Audrey Frick)
WE9090 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2023
If aromas of blackberry pie and cinnamon toast don’t make you hungry, wait until you get to the flavors of really ripe red cherries, red licorice and lemon peel. The wine is lighter-bodied, with great acidity and plush tannins. (Michael Alberty)
