The 2021 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley was matured for 15 months in 34% new oak. It has a medium ruby color and generous aromatic layers of lavender, licorice, eucalyptus and forest floor with a core of dark fruit. The medium-bodied palate is powerful, its concentrated fruit complemented by well-integrated oak spice. It has abundant, grainy tannins, bursts of mouthwatering acidity and a very long, layered finish. Offer it another 2–3 years in bottle to unwind. (Erin Brooks)
Taking on more richness both visually and aromatically, the 2021 Pinot Noir Russian River Valley is generous with violets, black cherry, and cola spices. Medium to full-bodied, it has ripe, sweet tannins, with notes of black tea, expansive black raspberry fruit, and toasted cedar. It offers good richness and has a classic feel with a long finish. Drink 2024–2034. (Audrey Frick)
Juicy and engaging, with a ball of kirsch wrapped in licorice and black tea notes, revealing a light wood spice echo on the toasty finish. Drink now through 2025. 8,175 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco is one of California's most famous wine districts. While sometimes overshadowed by the reputation of its rival and neighbor, Napa Valley, Sonoma County has a longer history of viticulture and is twice the size of the former.
Thanks in part to a strong diversity of climates within Sonoma County, the district is home to outstanding examples from a whole host of grapes. Sonoma County Pinot Noirs are considered some of the finest in the state, and the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels are remarkable. Chardonnays come in a variety of styles thanks to the varying temperatures in Sonoma County, and Cabernets and Merlots also thrive here.
Some of the more celebrated viticultural areas in Sonoma County include Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Coast, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Carneros (parts of which fall within Napa Valley).

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

2021 / 750 ml.
From a great vintage in Sonoma County, this wine ties with the 2017 William James Vineyard as the highest-rated Three Sticks offering. A smoky, toasty top note leads to intense, deep red- and black-cherry flavors in this structured, well-oaked wine. Slightly grippy tannins and nervy acidity add good balance and set the wine up for more improvement with time. Best from 2026–2032. (Jim Gordon)
The nose of this wine simply explodes with aromas of cranberry, black cherry, lemon zest and fresh-cut mint. The palate is a dizzying array of concentrated flavors of licorice, fried shiitake mushroom, black cherry compote and cocoa powder before a richly textured finish that begs for just a little time in the cellar, please. Drink 2028–2040. (Tom Capo)
Juicy and frankly ripe, with a solid wave of raspberry, boysenberry and mulberry fruit flavors rolling through, enlivened by dried anise, mineral and potpourri echoes through the finish. Shows a gloss of toast too, but with more than enough fruit and range to handle it. Drink now through 2030. 640 cases made. (James Molesworth)

A rich ruby/purple, the 2021 Pinot Noir Land’s Edge Vineyards is ripe and rounded with a perfume of blackberry preserve, damp forest floor, and toasted baking spice. Full-bodied, but with clean lift and without weight, it has dark berries, candied flowers, sweet, ripe tannins, and a soft texture. This is an immediate wine, but it has good freshness and the structure to drink over the next 4–5 years. (Audrey Frick)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills has a medium ruby color and pretty scents of cinnamon stick, aniseed, iron, underbrush and charcuterie with a core of red cherries and cranberries. Medium-bodied yet very concentrated, it has a powdery frame, sparks of refreshing acidity and a very long, graphite-driven finish. Precise and detailed, it deserves to spend another 2–3 years in bottle. (Erin Brooks)
