Day Deep Blue Pinot Noir 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 99903

WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 3/1/2023
Deep Blue is a blend of seven biodynamic/organically farmed Willamette Valley vineyards, including Momtazi and Johan. It has briary boysenberry and blueberry aromas, along with leather, petrichor and wet-grass notes. The wine’s grippy tannins suggest a need for decanting before flavors such as raspberry, blueberry sorbet and white-grapefruit pith come out to play. A portion of Deep Blue’s profits go to organizations that promote ocean restoration. Enjoy from 2023 until 2033. (Michael Alberty)

Oregon didn't burst onto the wine scene until the 1980s, but it has since carved out a name for itself as a world-class region for cooler weather wines like Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It's most famous for the former, with many critically-acclaimed Pinot Noirs originating in the region. The Willamette Valley is Oregon's most famous and most productive region. Pouring a medium ruby hue, the 2021 Pinot Noir Grande Cuvee is inviting, with elegant aromas of cranberry cocktail, cinnamon spice, and orange peel. Medium-bodied and elegant, with snappy, crunchy red fruit, ripe tannins, and a clean finish. It has a touch of meaty cherry fruit, but it’s elegant. Drink it over the next few years. (Audrey Frick)

Concentrated, powerful flavors of black cherry and blueberries almost drown out the wine’s wee bits of white tea and fresh rosemary. The nose is a bit more delicate, with tangerine, chamomile and a sativa-like note. Crushing tannins with a need for just a bit more acidity. (Michael Alberty)

This expressive red is dynamic, yet retains a sense of elegance and refinement, showing pomegranate and blueberry flavors underscored by river stone and dusky spice accents. Builds tension toward lively tannins. Drink now through 2032. 4,888 cases made. (Tim Fish)

A juicy and tasty pinot with aromas of dark cherries, sliced mushrooms, chocolate strawberries, cardamom and nutmeg. Medium-bodied, creamy and well-balanced, with fine-grained tannins and a bright finish. Drink now or hold. (James Suckling)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Dopp Creek takes on a deep transparent ruby color and offers aromas of toasted baking spices, ripe red and black raspberry, cardamom, and fresh pine. Medium-bodied, with juicy fruit up front, it fills the palate with fine tannins, and its more serious structure shows itself after the more primary fruit subsides on the palate. It will do well with another 6–12 months in bottle. Drink it over the coming 6–8 years. (Audrey Frick)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Estate Dopp Creek opens with a dark, dusty bouquet blending cedar shavings and brown spice with blood orange and sour cherries. Softly textured and round, it opens with a pretty inner sweetness complementing rose-tinged red fruits. It finishes fresh with a raspberry and licorice tinge as a bump of residual acidity adds a lasting, lively character. (Eric Guido)

A jeweled ruby hue, the 2021 Pinot Noir L’Ensemble needs a little time to open in the glass before revealing aromas of fresh pine, ripe cherry liqueur, and toasted spice. Supple and medium to full-bodied, with ripe tannins, it delivers elegant freshness and wonderful purity through its long, mouthwatering, seamless finish. Drink 2025–2037. (Audrey Frick)

Seduction meets elegant structure in this Pinot, which offers graceful raspberry and cherry flavors accented by rose petal and savory spice notes before finishing with polished tannins. Drink now through 2032. 2,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)

This multi-AVA blend’s aromas of blackcap raspberries and sweet/spicy peony flowers are a wondrous perfume accented by notes of rich Indonesian coffee and wet clover. Its bittersweet dark chocolate, lemon and smoked black tea flavors encircle a ball of black-and-blueberries. Silky tannins, bright acidity and a brisk mouthfeel. (Michael Alberty)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2024
The 2021 Pinot Noir L’Ensemble lifts from the glass with a dark and pleasantly herbal-tinged bouquet of crushed black cherries, brown spice and hints of cocoa. Silky-smooth with tart red berry depths, this saturates the palate as tannins slowly amass toward the close. Inner rose combines with raspberry and touches of citrus as the 2021 finishes long and staining yet only lightly tannic. 33% new French oak. (Eric Guido)

Medium ruby-purple, the 2021 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve offers generous aromas of cranberry sauce, floral potpourri, blood orange and wafts of dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate is youthfully gregarious and focused on generous allspice flavors, although its chalky, tensile frame and long, latent finish suggest this has more to give with additional time in bottle. (Erin Brooks)

Fresh and crunchy pinot with aromas of fresh strawberries, peppercorns, green olives, freshly turned soil and rosemary stems. Lovely silky texture, yet firm too, with tight-grained tannins and bright acidity. Delicious balance of sweet fruit and savory earthiness. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2024
The 2021 Pinot Noir Reserve Cumberland blossoms in the glass with dusty blackberry and rose petals complicated by hints of incense and clove. Succulent and round with ripe red fruit depths and inner florals. It takes on a chalky minerality as juicy acidity maintains an energetic feel. Hints of sour citrus tug at the senses as the 2021 finishes fresh and crisp, leaving gently staining silty tannins. The balance here is outstanding. (Eric Guido)
