Oregon's Willamette Valley is the most-heralded wine region in the state, and home to some of the best Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris produced anywhere, aided in part by the especially cool growing season. The region is divided into two sub-regions, the North Willamette and South Willamette, and is named for the river of the same name which flows past the city of Portland.

Oregon didn't burst onto the wine scene until the 1980s, but it has since carved out a name for itself as a world-class region for cooler weather wines like Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It's most famous for the former, with many critically-acclaimed Pinot Noirs originating in the region. The Willamette Valley is Oregon's most famous and most productive region. Other notable regions include the Rogue Valley, Walla Walla, and Columbia Valley.

Country / United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Day Deep Blue Pinot Noir 2021 / 750 ml.

2021 / 750 ml.

Item #: 99903

Deep Blue is a blend of seven biodynamic/organically farmed Willamette Valley vineyards, including Momtazi and Johan. It has briary boysenberry and blueberry aromas, along with leather, petrichor and wet-grass notes. The wine’s grippy tannins suggest a need for decanting before flavors such as raspberry, blueberry sorbet and white-grapefruit pith come out to play. A portion of Deep Blue’s profits go to organizations that promote ocean restoration. Enjoy from 2023 until 2033. (Michael Alberty)

Vibrant and fresh, with lively cherry and cranberry flavors accented by green tea and spices. Concludes with snappy tannins. Drink now through 2031. 2,350 cases made. (Tim Fish)

The 2021 Pinot Noir Reserve pours a richer hue of deep ruby and offers a more luxurious feel, with well-integrated oak spice. It lifts with warming notes of cedar, cinnamon, red cherry, and freshly turned soil. It is juicy and round without being heavy, with ripe raspberry compote, lavender, and toasted cardamom perfume. This is a lovely wine to hold 2–3 years and drink 2024–2032. (Audrey Frick)

If aromas of blackberry pie and cinnamon toast don’t make you hungry, wait until you get to the flavors of really ripe red cherries, red licorice and lemon peel. The wine is lighter-bodied, with great acidity and plush tannins. (Michael Alberty)
