Oregon's Willamette Valley is the most-heralded wine region in the state, and home to some of the best Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris produced anywhere, aided in part by the especially cool growing season. The region is divided into two sub-regions, the North Willamette and South Willamette, and is named for the river of the same name which flows past the city of Portland.

Region / Oregon
Oregon didn't burst onto the wine scene until the 1980s, but it has since carved out a name for itself as a world-class region for cooler weather wines like Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. It's most famous for the former, with many critically-acclaimed Pinot Noirs originating in the region. The Willamette Valley is Oregon's most famous and most productive region. Other notable regions include the Rogue Valley, Walla Walla, and Columbia Valley.

2022 / 750 ml.
Spicy, fruit-forward nose with undertones of licorice and dried herbs. Medium-bodied with crisp acidity and a juicy aftertaste. It’s fresh and seductive. Drink now. Screw cap. (James Suckling)
Aromatically, this is a bowl of mixed fruit that includes strawberry, blueberry and watermelon. Hiding behind the fruit are aromas of balsa wood and loamy soil. Flavors like blackberry, lemongrass and cedar fill the mouth. The acidity is bright, but the tannins are still grippy. Enjoy with a banh mi sandwich. (Michael Alberty)

2022 / 750 ml.
This is a planet you want to live on. The wine’s rich raspberry-jam and lilac aromas make a perfect foil for a meaty note similar to seared steak. Blueberry and candied-rose-petal flavors are joined by an interesting wood note that may conjure up childhood memories of building toy rafts with popsicle sticks. (Michael Alberty)
A young, snappy Pinot, featuring vibrant cherry and pomegranate flavors highlighted by black tea and dusky spices. Finishes with zesty tannins. Drink now through 2032. 23,000 cases made. (Tim Fish)
Peppery herbs and rose petals give way to crushed wild berries as the 2022 Pinot Noir slowly unfolds in the glass. This boasts a juicy, ripe red and blue fruit core accelerated by juicy acidity. It finishes spicy and unexpectedly fresh, leaving hints of tart raspberry that add a pleasant, cheek-puckering tension. (Eric Guido)

Refined and sleekly structured, with multilayered raspberry and cherry flavors that are laced with black tea and spice and glide on a long finish. Drink now through 2027. 7,000 cases made.
This is a four-vineyard blend, scented and framed with toasty oak. The midpalate fruit blends blackberry, blueberry and plum, with a dash of chocolate. The tannins have an appealing ruggedness, and add a green tea note to the finish. The wine was aged 16 months in 30% new French oak.
With a bright scent of berries and strewn rose petals, this has a ripe cherry core of flavor and a fine texture that’s just grippy enough to be intriguing and long.

2010 / 750 ml.
Argyle’s 2010 Brut — nearly half each Chardonnay and Pinot — displays juicy lime, tangerine, grapefruit and apple, with citric and malic cut buffered by subtle, lees-induced creaminess, and with a fine mousse. There is an impressive balance between density and sheer sap on the one hand and levity and refreshment on the other. A saline streak serves for welcome saliva-inducement in a long, vibrant finish. Enjoy this exceptional value over the next 2–3 years — and meantime imagine how complex the “Extended Tirage” release is likely to be seven years from now!
Light, crisp and expressive, with a prickly fizz underscoring the lively pear and citrus flavors, finishing long, with a light toasty note. Drink now. 18,043 cases made.
