Anaba Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 2908

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
Pale ruby-purple, the 2019 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast has fragrant scents of cranberry sauce and pomegranate, with tones of orange peel, dried herbs, potpourri and Angostura bitters. The light-bodied palate is chalky and fresh, its slender frame packed with sweet berry fruits, and it finishes long with nuanced perfume. (Erin Brooks)
WE9292 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2022
From a majority of coastal vines, this wine opens in a pretty array of blood orange and raspberry notes. With a bit of welcome funk and youthful tannin, it shows moderate acidity and an elegant style. (Virginie Boone)

Where It's From

District / Sonoma County

View more wines from Sonoma County

Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco is one of California's most famous wine districts. While sometimes overshadowed by the reputation of its rival and neighbor, Napa Valley, Sonoma County has a longer history of viticulture and is twice the size of the former.

Thanks in part to a strong diversity of climates within Sonoma County, the district is home to outstanding examples from a whole host of grapes. Sonoma County Pinot Noirs are considered some of the finest in the state, and the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels are remarkable. Chardonnays come in a variety of styles thanks to the varying temperatures in Sonoma County, and Cabernets and Merlots also thrive here.

Some of the more celebrated viticultural areas in Sonoma County include Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Coast, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Carneros (parts of which fall within Napa Valley).

Region / California

View more wines from California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

View more wines from United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The appellation 2019 Pinot Noir is brilliant, and I like it every bit as much as many of the more expensive single vineyards. Spiced red fruits, loamy earth, leather, and subtle smoke notes give way to a medium-bodied, textured, incredibly charming Pinot Noir that already offers pleasure yet has the balance to keep for at least 7–8 years. A well-rounded, easily enjoyable sparkling rosé, this offers a persistent fine-bubbled mousse structure, resulting in an overall smooth drinking experience. You will find nuanced aromas and flavors of citrus blossom, grapefruit, watermelon, white strawberries, dewy morning grass, and a wet stone minerality, with just a hint of those autolytic toasty notes. The finish lingers with additional florals of pink roses and fresh daisies. (Stacy Briscoe)

Offers pretty peach and strawberry flavors and a luscious, lingering texture as this takes on spice and orange peel accents on the crisp yet plush finish. Drink now. 19,350 cases made. (Tim Fish)

More savory than sweet and wonderfully complex, the 2019 Brut Rosé North Coast bursts from the glass with toasty notes of fresh baguette and almonds, giving way to crushed apples and gingery spice. This rushes the palate with an elegant bead of silken bubbles. It is creamy yet energetic, and mineral-tinged orchard fruits add further tension. The 2019 leaves the senses wonderfully refreshed through the long, crunchy finale, as white strawberry and spice cookie notes fade. The Brut Rosé is a pleasure bomb, yet it’s wonderfully balanced throughout. (Eric Guido)

The 2019 Pinot Noir Cahill Lane Vineyard is elegant, understated and classy. Silky tannins and mid-weight structure give the 2019 so much appeal. As with all of these wines, the flavors are bright and punchy, with plenty of red berry, white pepper, mint and citrus character.

The 2019 Pinot Noir The North Slope Vineyard offers lovely mid-palate depth to play off strong floral, savory notes. I find the North Slope a bit uncharacteristic in its vegetal character, which I suspect is related to machine harvesting for some of this fruit.

Aromas and flavors lead with a wet stone minerality and flintiness straight away, closely followed by autolytic notes of fresh, crusty bread. Slowly revealed are the vivacious fruits of lemon, lime, green apple and orange zest, complemented by a cherry-blossom floral note. The finish is a perfect culmination of all, crescendoing into a lingering finale. (Stacy Briscoe)

Reveals lightly mulled raspberry and cherry fruit flavors that move through slowly, with a hint of blood orange providing spine while singed sandalwood and red tea weave through the finish. Drink now through 2023. 4,442 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Sour cherry, dusty earth and toasted sage aromas kick off this countywide cuvée. There’s a ripe landing to the palate, where persistent strawberry flavors slowly dry up toward earth and herbs. (Matt Kettmann)

A blend of 43% Grenache, 41% Mourvédre and 16% Syrah from two vineyard sites, one warmer than the other, this plummy red is bright on the palate. Smoky and not overly oaked, it contributes gamy twinges of black currant and cardamom to the long finish.
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2015
Offers lovely aromas of ripe raspberry and rose petal, with well-structured flavors of smoky plum, sage and white pepper. Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah. Drink now through 2020. 413 cases made.
RP8888 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Dec 2014
The 2012 Turbine Proprietary Red is a blend of 45% Grenache, 41% Mourvèdre and 14% Syrah (similar to a Châteauneuf du Pape from Southern France). Displaying a Mediterranean personality, it is filled with notions of lavender, Provençal herbs, red and black cherries, spice box and pepper. Although not terribly complex, it is medium-bodied, savory and round. It is a good California version of a solidly made, fleshy Côtes du Rhône. Enjoy it over the next 5–6 years.

Deep ruby-purple, the 2019 Petite Sirah Teldeschi Vineyard offers an explosive perfume of blackberry candy, blueberry preserves, crème de violette and menthol, with nuances of coffee, licorice and dried herbs coming through with time in the glass. The full-bodied palate is powerful and gently chewy, with bursts of fresh acidity highlighting its intense violet perfume, and it has a long, flavorful finish. (Erin Brooks)

The 2019 Syrah Bismark Vineyard has a deep ruby-purple color and rich aromas of cassis, coffee beans, chargrill, white pepper and menthol. The full-bodied palate is powerful and richly fruited, with an abundance of rounded tannins and a long, flavorful finish with lingering floral accents. This deserves another 3–5 years in bottle and will be long lived in the cellar. (Erin Brooks)
