Poderi Luigi Einaudi Barolo Ludo 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 2777

SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2023
Bright and well-delineated, exuding cherry, strawberry, rose and earth flavors. Turns firm and tightly wound from midpalate through the finish, showing the austerity of the vintage. There is plenty here, but this just needs time. Best from 2026 through 2045. 3,900 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, July 28, 2023
Plenty of dried flowers with spices such as cloves and dried lavender. Strawberry and orange peel. Medium-bodied with firm and racy tannins and a fresh and firm finish. A little tight and lean. Should soften and open with time. Better in 2026. (James Suckling)

View more wines from Piedmont

Located in northwestern Italy near the Italian Alps, Piedmont is home to two of Italy's more famous wines: Barolos and Barbarescos. Each of these wines are made with the Nebbiolo grape, which is the premier red grape in the region. Other red grapes of note used in Piedmont include Barbera and Dolcetto. Among white wine grapes used in Piedmont are Moscatos, which are increasing in popularity here in the US. Piedmont's capital city Torino is also home to large productions of Vermouth, also made from Moscato.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

The 2019 Barolo Cerretta is packed with dark cherry, smoke, gravel, blood orange incense, scorched earth, licorice and mocha. This ample, full-bodied Barolo offers tremendous depth and textural intensity. Powerful and brooding, with tons of muscle and tannin, the Cerretta is incredibly promising. It is the most potent wine in this portfolio, by a pretty substantial range. (Antonio Galloni)

Bright and full of strawberry, cherry, violet, mineral and eucalyptus flavors, this red is juicy in texture. A line of dense, mouthcoating tannins awaits on the long finish. All the components are there, this just needs time. Best from 2027 through 2047. 420 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

A firm, elegant red marked by haunting aromas of rose, cherry and spices. Supple and beautifully balanced, with strawberry and cherry flavors shaded by underbrush and white pepper. Shows fine length, with a hint of licorice. Best from 2025 through 2042. 3,823 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2019 Barolo Marcenasco is spiced and fragrant with cinnamon, fresh leather, red cherry, and clove. It is expressive through the palate, with wild berries, cedar, forest floor, and a well-balanced, ripe structure. Drink 2025–2040. (Audrey Frick)

Delivers a whiff of grilled beef that gives way to flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose hip and mineral. Compact, even austere, as assertive tannins emerge on the resonant finish. Best from 2026 through 2045. 6,500 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2019 Barolo Albe is a nuanced, understated wine, but it is also a rare Albe that needs time in bottle. Sweet floral and spice notes open first, leading to an attractive core of Nebbiolo fruit. Gentle and understated, with lovely precision, the 2019 Albe is a hushed wine that is more about energy than size. I have seen the Albe really blossom with a few years in bottle. I expect that will be the case here as well given its super-classic feel. (Antonio Galloni)

Some grilled meat with some flowers and berry aromas that follow through to a full body with velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Orange blossom. Chewy at the end. Very well done. Needs three or four years. Better after 2026. (James Suckling)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
A muscular red marked by forthcoming aromas and flavors of vanilla, tar, resin, cherry, plum and spices. Shows burly tannins that quickly take hold, ending on the chewy side. Best from 2026 through 2040. 1,500 cases made, 417 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Aug 2023
The 2019 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is strong in terms of bouquet with an immediate whiff of toasted oak or cedarwood that overlaps with the more delicate nuances of Nebbiolo. Those spicy notes are played up in a vintage that tends to offer more concentration and fruit richness naturally. The oak still needs time to integrate, and the tannins are on the dry side. I also need to point out the high 15% alcohol content. This is a production of 17,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)

Heady aromas that opens with black raspberries, cherry compote, and mixed sweet and savory spices. Subtle floral and herbal notes bolt in to add to the depth of the nose. Broad and rich across the palate with a generous dollop of mixed berry preserves with cracked pepper and dried herbs. The tannins are masterful with a refined nature that calls out the soul of Nebbiolo and shows how well this wine will age. Drink 2027 onward. (Jeff Porter)

The 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is perhaps the most complete of the 2019 Riservas at this stage. It offers fine depth, plenty of tannin and nascent emerging inner sweetness to tie it all together. A wine of stature and textural depth, the Montestefano is my early favorite in this lineup. (Antonio Galloni)

Restrained if not dull at first. Very minerally nose with peach peel, orange zest, sweet violets and vermouth-like complexity, Firm tannins, a medium body, crisp acidity and an extracted yet classic finish. Drink from 2025, but it has the potential for aging. (James Suckling)

Compared to the 2018, the 2019 Barolo Monprivato offers a more powerful nose with more nervous energy in its notes of licorice, raspberry liqueur, rosemary, and sweet earth. Ripe and powerfully structured, with a midweight feel but incredible intensity and length, it has a great level of completeness, with an earthy drive and ripe tannins that hold through its long finish. Drink 2025–2055. (Audrey Frick)
SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2024
This pure and stylish Barolo features rose, strawberry, cherry, mineral and underbrush aromas and flavors. Though silky in texture, this is well-structured, with integrated tannins and harmony. This is all about finesse and texture, with excellent length and a mineral aftertaste. Best from 2026 through 2045. 1,541 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2019 Barolo is bright and effusive in the glass, with lovely aromatic presence and fine balance. Aromatic and broad, with gorgeous balance, the 2019 will be easy to drink and enjoy young. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, mint, cinnamon, pomegranate, cedar and sweet floral top notes. This is such a classy Barolo from Altare. (Antonio Galloni)

A velvety and delicious Barbaresco with chocolate, coffee and blackberry aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied with layers of ripe tannins and a long and juicy finish. Reserved at the finish. This needs time to open. Better after 2024. (James Suckling)

With 15,493 bottles produced with fruit selected across this celebrated MGA, the Paitin 2019 Barbaresco Serraboella reaches a perfect pitch between fruit ripeness and acidity. This exacting balance is a hallmark of the vintage. The house style, on the other hand, is focused on elegance, so you really get quite a beautiful drinking experience with this bottle. Red and purple fruits segue to wild rose and red licorice. (Monica Larner)

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 23rd Jun 2022
The 2019 Barbaresco stands apart, thanks to the pleasantly bold and intact quality of its bouquet that is laced with sweet cherry fruit, candied orange, blue flower, rusty ore and iodine. This unique expression offers an equal measure of sweetness, which is contrasted against savory tones, with impressive precision and balance. I highly recommend this classic Barbaresco from the talented team at Moccagatta. Some 8,000 bottles were released at a reasonable price. (Monica Larner)
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, October 5, 2022
Very floral with crushed berries and hints of lemon leaf in the nose. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that are polished and together. Delicate finish. Drink now or hold. (James Suckling)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023
Rich and framed by vanilla and oak spice flavors, this Barbaresco also reveals cherry, earth and menthol notes. The mouthwatering finish is lined with grainy tannins. Best from 2025 through 2039. 500 cases made, 165 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
Moccagatta’s 2019 Barbaresco is racy and expressive, which makes it a good choice for near-term drinking, once the tannins soften a bit. Cinnamon, blood orange and spice add aromatic presence to this bright, supple Barbaresco from vines in Muncagota, Basarin and Cottá. Floral notes leave a closing accent on the taut finish. Pale ruby with an orange hue, the 2019 Barolo is expressive with floral and spice, including dried flowers, fresh herbs, and pomegranate. It is medium-bodied and structured, with elegance and freshness, and strikes a balance between tension and gracefulness. Fresh with raspberries and a note of sandy earth, it is drinking well now but should not be ruled out for aging phenomenally over the next 10–12 years. (Audrey Frick)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
A firm red highlighted by ripe cherry, strawberry, hibiscus and tomato leaf flavors. Reveals earth and eucalyptus details, while gripping tannins flex on the lingering finish. Best from 2025 through 2040. 3,500 cases made, 2,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo is gorgeous. Bright, translucent and wonderfully expressive, the 2019 hints at a very different style here than in the past. Crushed red berry fruit, wild flowers, mint, sweet red cherry and incense are all beautifully lifted in this weightless, super-classic Barolo from Molino. Impressive. (Antonio Galloni)
