Mauro Molino Barolo Gallinotto 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 99977

JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
Mauro Molino bought this vineyard in the 1990s, but the first vintage was not produced from it until 2001. The first of the single vineyard wines, the 2019 Barolo Gallinotto is lifted with mineral, fresh mint, and tarragon and has a floral imprint of wet stone, red cherry, and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied but takes on crunchy fresh acidity, with fine though present tannins, and has a cooling effect throughout. The palate reveals notes of anise, mint, and pomegranate. Allow for another year in bottle and drink 2024–2040. (Audrey Frick)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
Harmonious, this red sports cherry and raspberry flavors at the core, accented by eucalyptus, tobacco and mineral. Reveals a lean frame infused with assertive, grainy tannins. This will need a few years to integrate. Best from 2026 through 2042. 900 cases made, 300 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Gallinotto is a very pretty wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. There’s plenty of immediacy, but not quite the depth or complexity of the very best wines in the range. Succulent red cherry fruit, cedar, pipe tobacco, menthol and dried flowers linger. (Antonio Galloni)

Located in northwestern Italy near the Italian Alps, Piedmont is home to two of Italy's more famous wines: Barolos and Barbarescos. Each of these wines are made with the Nebbiolo grape, which is the premier red grape in the region. Other red grapes of note used in Piedmont include Barbera and Dolcetto. Among white wine grapes used in Piedmont are Moscatos, which are increasing in popularity here in the US. Piedmont's capital city Torino is also home to large productions of Vermouth, also made from Moscato.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

I had the chance to walk the Cannubi vineyard with Chiara Boschis this past fall. You really don’t get a sense of how steep the inclines are and how powdery the soils are until you are there, struggling with each difficult step. She navigates the difficult terrain effortlessly. The 2019 Barolo Cannubi shows an etched or three-dimensional quality with sharp fruit flavors, blue flower and chalky stone. There were some weather extremes during the growing season, but everything balanced out in the end. Phenolic ripeness was easily achieved. Chiara Boschis describes 2019 as a cross between 2016 and 2017. In her portfolio, Via Nuova is the classic Barolo, Mosconi has the power and Cannubi shows the finesse of Nebbiolo. (Monica Larner)
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Cannubi is flat-out stunning. Rich and beautifully textured, the 2019 dazzles from start to finish. Freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed red berry fruit, orange peel, salt and dried herbs are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite, wonderfully nuanced Barolo from Chiara Boschis. Sweet floral and spice overtones build into the finish. The precision here is unreal. Aging in cask works so well here. What a wine! (Antonio Galloni)

A red of depth and opulence, with black cherry and blackberry fruit accented by earth, green olive tapenade, green tea and tobacco flavors. Complex, with considerable power and length, this will require a bit more time to integrate than its peers. Best from 2027 through 2046. 277 cases made, 83 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
JD9696 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
The 2019 Barolo Cannubi is red-fruited and elegant, with a sweet perfume of red berries, candied roses, fresh leather, and dusty earth. It is medium-bodied and has a linear structure, with notes of ripe orange, a touch of incense, and raspberry easing through the arch, fine and approachable tannins, and a long, elegant finish. Drink 2024–2044. (Audrey Frick)

A dense and tightly structured red, this reveals cherry, strawberry, iron, tar and eucalyptus flavors. Beefy tannins uphold the finish, where the lasting impression is a beam of cherry. Well-proportioned, needing time to integrate. Best from 2025 through 2043. 650 cases made, 185 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

RP9797 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Aug 2023
The 2019 Barolo Le Vigne is a historic blend of fruit from Baudana in Serralunga d’Alba, Villero in Castiglione Falletto, Vignane in Barolo and Merli in Novello. This year, a fifth site was added to the final blend. It is the Le Coste MGA in Barolo with south-facing exposures and 45-year-old vines in a two-hectare parcel. The backbone of this wine is Baudana, and Merli adds freshness. The wine needs more time in bottle, but already it proves generous and bold with dark fruit, spice and crushed mineral. (Monica Larner)
VN9797 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo Le Vigne is pure and total seduction. Kirsch, sweet pipe tobacco, mint, cedar, dried herbs and orange peel all grace a Le Vigne built on mid-weight structure and energy. There is a feeling of youthful classicism and austerity that is so beguiling. Readers should plan on being patient, though. The 2019 won’t be ready to drink anytime soon, but there is enough fruit to make me think it will be superb, in time. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2023
A tightly wound red, with floral, cherry, iron, earth and underbrush aromas and flavors. Beefy, with the vintage's characteristic austerity and a strong grip on the finish. The tannins lend a compact feel in the end, yet this stretches out on the finish, with a core of pure fruit. Best from 2027 through 2047. 1,500 cases made, 350 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Aromatic, this red exudes scents of rose and cherry combined with flavors of white pepper, all allied to a linear structure. Balanced, with lingering traces of fruit, spice and chalky mineral on the finish. Best from 2025 through 2040. 250 cases made, 90 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

Pale ruby with an orange hue, the 2019 Barolo is expressive with floral and spice, including dried flowers, fresh herbs, and pomegranate. It is medium-bodied and structured, with elegance and freshness, and strikes a balance between tension and gracefulness. Fresh with raspberries and a note of sandy earth, it is drinking well now but should not be ruled out for aging phenomenally over the next 10–12 years. (Audrey Frick)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
A firm red highlighted by ripe cherry, strawberry, hibiscus and tomato leaf flavors. Reveals earth and eucalyptus details, while gripping tannins flex on the lingering finish. Best from 2025 through 2040. 3,500 cases made, 2,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2023
The 2019 Barolo is gorgeous. Bright, translucent and wonderfully expressive, the 2019 hints at a very different style here than in the past. Crushed red berry fruit, wild flowers, mint, sweet red cherry and incense are all beautifully lifted in this weightless, super-classic Barolo from Molino. Impressive. (Antonio Galloni)

Some grilled meat with some flowers and berry aromas that follow through to a full body with velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Orange blossom. Chewy at the end. Very well done. Needs three or four years. Better after 2026. (James Suckling)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
A muscular red marked by forthcoming aromas and flavors of vanilla, tar, resin, cherry, plum and spices. Shows burly tannins that quickly take hold, ending on the chewy side. Best from 2026 through 2040. 1,500 cases made, 417 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Aug 2023
The 2019 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba is strong in terms of bouquet with an immediate whiff of toasted oak or cedarwood that overlaps with the more delicate nuances of Nebbiolo. Those spicy notes are played up in a vintage that tends to offer more concentration and fruit richness naturally. The oak still needs time to integrate, and the tannins are on the dry side. I also need to point out the high 15% alcohol content. This is a production of 17,000 bottles. (Monica Larner)

The 2019 Barolo Cerretta is packed with dark cherry, smoke, gravel, blood orange incense, scorched earth, licorice and mocha. This ample, full-bodied Barolo offers tremendous depth and textural intensity. Powerful and brooding, with tons of muscle and tannin, the Cerretta is incredibly promising. It is the most potent wine in this portfolio, by a pretty substantial range. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 30, 2023
Bright and full of strawberry, cherry, violet, mineral and eucalyptus flavors, this red is juicy in texture. A line of dense, mouthcoating tannins awaits on the long finish. All the components are there, this just needs time. Best from 2027 through 2047. 420 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

Bright and well-delineated, exuding cherry, strawberry, rose and earth flavors. Turns firm and tightly wound from midpalate through the finish, showing the austerity of the vintage. There is plenty here, but this just needs time. Best from 2026 through 2045. 3,900 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

Plenty of dried flowers with spices such as cloves and dried lavender. Strawberry and orange peel. Medium-bodied with firm and racy tannins and a fresh and firm finish. A little tight and lean. Should soften and open with time. Better in 2026. (James Suckling)

Molinos 2020 Barolo is a very pretty, classy entry-level offering. Macerated red cherry, orange peel, cinnamon, cedar and sweet pipe tobacco inform this aromatic, mid-weight Barolo. All the elements are nicely balanced throughout. Vineyard sources are Annunziata, Berri and Perno. The 2020 is a real charmer. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2018 Barolo is a lean and lively expression with wild cherry, licorice, rose water and crushed stone. Made from a blend of fruit from Annunziata and Berri in La Morra and Perno in Monforte d’Alba, this is a classic, lean-bodied Nebbiolo with an elegant close. (Monica Larner)
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, October 2, 2022
This needs plenty of air to lose the immediate, bland fruit-toffee notes and reveal some more delicate red-berry, cherry and rose aromas that follow through to the medium-bodied palate, where some fine tannin takes a hold on the fruit and provides a decent, spicy fruit finish. Give it a year. Drink from 2023.
