Entrancingly deep, red and blue-rose aromas here with an ethereal, dried-leaf and herb edge and pristine red cherries. The palate has very impressive, fine and tight tannins and a fresh, pure core of red-cherry and plum flavor. Impeccably focused finish. Try from 2023.
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 28th Jun 2019
The 2015 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a dark and concentrated expression that offers succulence and richness with a full load of ripe summer plum and blackberry. There is softness here with black and purple fruit, natural rubber and savory spice. Pair this wine with a hearty beef en croute and roasted vegetables.
WE9393 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 10/1/2019
Aromas of rose, red berry and wild herbs are front and center on this fresh, refined red. On the bright palate, taut, polished tannins and good acidity accompany juicy raspberry, white pepper and star anise. Drink 2020–2025.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2019
A supple texture and harmony are the hallmarks of this alluring red, setting you up for pure flavors of cherry, raspberry, licorice, mint and tobacco. A solid backbone of tannins provides support. This should develop nicely over the medium term. Best from 2021 through 2033. 1,900 cases made, 500 cases imported.
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2019
The 2015 Barolo Cascina Nuova is a very pretty entry-level offering from Elvio Cogno. Bright red berry and lifted floral notes pair nicely with the wine’s gracious, mid-weight feel. Silky tannins match the wine’s finely sculpted, saline-infused personality. The Cascina Nuova is a terrific example of the bright, taut Barolos made here in 2015. I would prefer to drink this gracious, lithe Barolo over the next decade or so.

Located in northwestern Italy near the Italian Alps, Piedmont is home to two of Italy's more famous wines: Barolos and Barbarescos. Each of these wines are made with the Nebbiolo grape, which is the premier red grape in the region. Other red grapes of note used in Piedmont include Barbera and Dolcetto. Among white wine grapes used in Piedmont are Moscatos, which are increasing in popularity here in the US. Piedmont's capital city Torino is also home to large productions of Vermouth, also made from Moscato.

Sleek and resonant, with mint and licorice aromas and flavors swirling around the raspberry, cherry and mineral notes in this generous red. The tannins are present yet refined, meshing well with the fruit and bright acidity and leaving a long, subtle aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2045. 94 cases made. (Bruce Sanderson)

The 2015 Barolo del Comune di Barolo is a gorgeous entry-level wine in this range. Succulent and forward, the 2015 offers quite a bit of immediacy and sheer appeal. Sweet red cherry fruit, spice, leather, mint, cedar and pipe tobacco are nicely pushed forward, but there is plenty of tannic spine underneath. This is an especially open-knit wine from Luca Roagna, not that I think most readers will have an issue with that, especially those of us who remember the bruisers of the past. The Barolo del Comune di Barolo is one of the wines in this range savvy readers will want to focus on for its quality, value and sheer deliciousness. Sadly, there are fewer than 100 cases to go around.

Defying the heat of the scorching vintage, this fragrant red has aromas of iris, violet, wild berry, leather and eucalyptus. On the full-bodied, delicious palate, fresh acidity and firm, fine-grained tannins support dried cherry, nutmeg and licorice before a tobacco finish. Drink 2025–2032. (Kerin O’Keefe)

A pretty red, boasting rose, strawberry and raspberry flavors accented by mown hay, leather, iron and tobacco. In terms of texture and structure, this is like an iron fist in a velvet glove. Fine length. Best from 2024 through 2043. 420 cases made, 150 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

This is a medium-bodied Nebbiolo from a hot vintage with a ruby-tinged appearance. The 2017 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice shows generous inner fiber and richness with dried cherry, blackberry, plum and dark spice. Fruit for this wine comes from a beautiful amphitheater of vines with the perched town of Novello high up on the skyline. I love the especially smooth and soft quality to what is a powerful and lasting wine. Only 3,500 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)

Deep-set nose of bright, spicy cherry with layers of minerals, from chalk to river stones. Medium-to full-bodied with really nicely placed, still firm tannins and excellent spicy and mineral drive on the finish. There’s a cool feel to the palate. This is in the full bloom of youth and, though attractive now, will age nicely. Try from 2024. (James Suckling)

New leather, balsamic herb, rose, truffle and woodland berry aromas take shape in the glass along with a whiff of charcuterie. The focused, savory palate has a great depth of flavor, doling out raspberry compote, cinnamon, crushed mint and a hint of cocoa alongside a backbone of firm tannins and fresh acidity. It still needs time to fully develop. Drink 2023–2035.

Beautifully pure and seamless Barolo with superb balance. Bright strawberry and floral aromas and attractive sweet spices, leading to a palate with assertive, juicy tannins that carry rich, fresh red-plum and cherry flavor. Power with elegance. Try from 2023.

The 2015 Barolo Ravera shows a deep concentration and dark fruit intensity. This warm-vintage Barolo opens with a ripe and soft bouquet that brings out some nice cherry notes with creamy black fruit at the back. The finish is soft and luscious. There is so much fruity succulence here that the wine should stand up to a gamey dish of liver pâté or pasta with wild boar.
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Dec 31, 2019
This is tightly structured and dense, with burly tannins wrapped around cherry, plum, licorice, tar and menthol flavors. It’s difficult to see where this is going today, but the finish is long and will need considerable time to hit its stride. Best from 2023 through 2042. 600 cases imported.

Soaring aromatics make a strong opening statement in the 2015 Barolo Ravera. Bright, precise and finely sculpted, the Ravera captures all the best the 2015 vintage has to offer. Kirsch, sweet mint, hard candy and expressive floral notes are given an extra kick of inner sweetness from the natural energy of Ravera. There is so much to look forward to as the 2015 develops in bottle. This is a stellar showing.

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 24th Aug 2023
A wine like this adds an exciting splash of gold to a wine region that is celebrated for its ruby reds. Always refreshing, the Elvio Cogno 2022 Langhe Nascetta del Comune di Novello Anas-Cëtta offers an exciting change of pace with honeysuckle, white peach, apple and quince. There are salty hints of crushed mineral too. The wine shows medium body and enough textural density to pair with baked fish or white meat. Some 18,000 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)
JD92+92+ pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2023
Bottled two days ago. the 2022 Nascetta Del Comune Di Novello Anas-Cetta is exuberant with aromas of broth and tropical, herbal, and saline notes. Medium-bodied, with a lovely waxy viscosity, it reveals elements of saline and fresh pineapple, without feeling bloated or heavy. It has an Alpine sensibility, with a light bitter almond note on the finish as well as lime blossom and citrus. This fresh white would work over a broad spectrum of food pairings and could be a sommelier’s secret weapon. (Audrey Frick)

Valter Fissore’s 2016 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice is a tour de force, taking the power, balance and elegance of his 2016 Barolo Ravera (98 points, W&S 12/20) to an even higher level. The wine bursts from the glass with aromas of rose petal, violet and mint that are fresh and high toned, beautifully representative of the outstanding 2016 vintage. The five-acre Bricco Pernice plot sits near the top of a south-facing hill in the Ravera cru, and in the long, even growing season of 2016, its preponderance of old vines (75 percent are more than 50 years of age) lends a depth and resonance to the herb-inflected dark-cherry flavors. The wine has an inner brightness and lift that propel those flavors across the palate as they gain notes of raspberry, licorice and orange peel. Cool, ferrous tannins outline the vivid fruit tones, creating a precise, chiseled effect: Each flavor is clearly defined, yet all are in perfect harmony. The tension between subtle power and exuberant energy in the 2016 Bricco Pernice is a thrill that every Barolo lover should experience.
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/27/2021
Amplified and spiced aromatics lift from the 2016 Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice, with notes of tar, cinnamon, dried currant, and fresh sage. Flush with mid-palate fruit, it also has driving acidity and gripping structure, noted by plum skin, tea leaf, and burnt orange. Defined with persistence and angular structure, the 2016 is one to hold 3–5 years and drink 2024–2046. (Jeb Dunnuck)
WE9797 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2021
This gorgeous red has enticing aromas of rose, iris, woodland berry, camphor and truffle. Full-bodied and savory, the enveloping palate doles out raspberry compote, licorice, baking spice and tobacco alongside firm, refined tannins and bright acidity. A minty note lingers on the close.
JS9797 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, July 2, 2021
Aromas of dried roses, asphalt and orange peel follow through to a full body with a solid yet silky tannin texture to the clear, vivid fruit. Goes on for minutes. A subtle and very structured red. Drink after 2024.
VN9696 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
The 2016 Barolo Bricco Pernice is absolutely gorgeous. The pedigree of the year comes through in the wine’s depth and stature. What a knockout. Ripe black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice, orange peel and rose petal are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop as the 2016 opens in the glass. Readers should be in no rush here. The 2017 is absolutely stellar.
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2021
Expressive, this red delivers sun-kissed hay, macerated cherry, strawberry, iron, tar and tobacco aromas and flavors. Vibrant and intense, with a long, complex aftertaste of macerated fruit, mineral and tobacco elements. Best from 2025 through 2048. 425 cases made, 100 cases imported.

Made by the estate that put this celebrated cru on the map, and showing an enviable combination of elegance and power, this stunning wine opens with aromas of wild berries, underbrush, dark spice and balsamic notes of cedar and new leather. The tense, savory palate is loaded with youthful energy, showing succulent Marasca cherry, raspberry, cinnamon and star anise framed in tightly knit, refined tannins and surprisingly bright acidity for the vintage. A mineral note suggesting iron adds depth to the close.
JD9797 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/27/2021
The 2017 Barolo Ravera makes a statement with its intense aromas of licorice, kirsch, pipe tobacco, and spice. Revealing a balanced and chiseled structure, the palate conveys dried raspberry, blood orange, and dried herbs. A great wine from the 2017 vintage, it feels like it will hold up to the test of time. Drink 2024–2042. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 17th Jun 2021
The Ravera cru is seeing renewed energy and interest, thanks to the hard work of the Elvio Cogno team. They believed in Novello from the very beginning, and today a wine like the 2017 Barolo Ravera shows special confidence and pride. This pretty Barolo made with a blend of Nebbiolo clones (Lampia and Michet) reveals a slow succession of aromas with dark cherry and blackberry. The results are lasting, contoured and beautifully focused, thanks to mineral notes of rusty iron or brick. Nuanced notes of licorice and campfire ash round off the finish. Production is 13,000 bottles.

Cherry and candied strawberry with flowers and some dried earth. Full-bodied, layered and chewy. Lots of wet earth and mushroom to the red fruit. Tight now. Try after 2023.
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2021
A tightly wound, linear red, this reveals steeped cherry and plum flavors, with shadings of tar, eucalyptus and licorice. The dense matrix of tannins rules the finish, yet this shows nice equilibrium overall. Best from 2025 through 2043. 1,100 cases made, 350 cases imported.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2021
The 2017 Barolo Ravera is a beautiful, precise wine. Bright acids and veins of tannin give the 2017 terrific energy that carries all the way through to the finish. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, chalk, white pepper and spice all open with a bit of coaxing. This is very nicely done.
