Where It's From

District / Beaujolais

View more wines from Beaujolais

Technically, Beaujolais is part of France's Burgundy wine region. However, because the grapes used in Beaujolais and styles produced differ so dramatically from the rest of Burgundy, most in the wine business consider them as separate regions. Gamay is Beajolais's primary grape, and it produces wines that are best consumed in the same year they are produced. The most famous style is Beaujolais Nouveau, which often arrives in the US near Thanksgiving time and represents the first wines of the year's harvest.

Region / Burgundy

View more wines from Burgundy

In eastern France lies the region of Burgundy, one of the legendary wine regions of the world. Burgundy, home to some of the most expensive wines in the world, is famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With very few exceptions, red Burgundy is made from 100% Pinot Noir. And the reigning white of Burgundy, Chardonnay, can vary incredibly in style depending on where it was produced within the region.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Pale and delicate, but with a lovely silkiness on the palate that barely tips the scales at medium-bodied. More floral aromas than red berries, but they are there too. There’s a hint of herbal character, but with aeration this seems to gain in weight. Still very youthful. Drinkable now, but best from 2024. (Stuart Pigott)

I love the enveloping nose of blueberries and wild blackberries that lead you into this structured and vivid Morgon that has plenty of body for the 2021 vintage. Interesting spicy and fresh chestnut complexity. Very crisp finish. Drink or hold. (Stuart Pigott)

A strong effort from Guignier in a challenging vintage, the 2021 Morgon Vieilles Vignes offers up an attractive bouquet of wild berries, cassis bud, petals and sweet soil tones, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and seamless palate with a pure core of fruit and a nicely balanced, charming profile.
