Where It's From

Appellation / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

Ripe Bing cherries, mulberries, spicy oak, new leather, and candied violet notes all emerge from the 2019 Château Grand Corbin, a rich, medium to full-bodied, Merlot-dominated Saint-Emilion that has the vintage’s pure, balanced, classic style. It shows more minerality and truffly, herbal notes as it sits in the glass and is a beautiful example of the balance and finesse coming from Saint-Emilion these days. (Jeb Dunnuck)

This has aromas of blueberries, currants, pine cones, oyster shells and nutmeg. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tightly wound tannins. Tight, mineral finish. Fresh. Better in 2024. (James Suckling)

Beautiful and complex aromas of orange peel, fruit tea, hazelnuts and berries follow through to a medium body with ultra-fine tannins and polished, refined tannins. Finesse with focus. Try after 2025.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2019 Bel-Air has come together nicely. It’s racy personality is on display, but élevage seems to have tamed some of the overt intensity that was present in the early going. Inky dark fruit, new leather, kirsch and sweet spice infuse the 2019 with quite a bit of character. This ripe, forward Pomerol will drink well right out of the gate. (Antonio Galloni)

Really floral and pretty with currants, cherries and some violets and stones. Medium-bodied with a creamy texture. Attractive tannins and stony undertones. A large percentage of merlot with the cabernet, making it fresh and firm. Sophisticated. Better after 2024. (James Suckling)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 4/11/2022
Coming from the Haut-Médoc and bottled in May, the 2019 Madame De Beaucaillou reveals a deep ruby/purple as well as a great nose of red and black cherries, leafy herbs, damp earth, and flowers. Medium-bodied, mouth-filling, and balanced, it has the vintage’s purity and focus front and center yet still brings plenty of fruit, texture, and pleasure. Drink this beauty over the coming 4–6 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 7th Apr 2022
From fully 50 hectares of vineyards in Listrac and Cussac, planted with a majority of Merlot, the 2019 Madame de Beaucaillou offers up aromas of blackberry and cassis, framed by a deft application of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, bright and lively, with powdery tannins and a saline finish, it’s a hearty, chunky, flavorful wine that will round out with a bit of bottle age. (William Kelley)
VN8989 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2019 Madame de Beaucaillou has turned out beautifully. Bright, floral and effusive, the Madame offers up crushed red berry fruit, spice, new leather and licorice. This effusive, charming red offers tons of immediacy and sheer appeal. I would prefer to drink it over the next handful of years. The Madame is a blend from vineyards that previously informed Bruno Borie’s Listracs, plus other parcels just outside Saint-Julien. (Antonio Galloni)

VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Feb 2022
The 2019 Poitevin has a perfumed, floral bouquet with more red fruit than I observed from barrel, showing fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very cohesive and harmonious. There’s just a touch of graphite on the finish. Stylish, top-notch Poitevin. (Neal Martin)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Oct 2022
The 2019 Poitevin is performing better than it did when I tasted it earlier this year, when I suspect it was still shut down after bottling. Opening in the glass with attractive aromas of orange zest, sweet red berries, petals and spices, it’s medium-bodied, lively and elegant, with lovely purity of fruit and nicely integrated structure. (William Kelley)
JS8989 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 20, 2022
Ripe blackberries, crushed raspberries, dried thyme and mocha on the nose. Medium body with lightly chewy tannins. Firm and compact with savory tea-leaf character. Drink from 2023.
