This historic wine of the Veneto region, first made in 1964, is still a classic today. The wine is rich and luscious, with ripe notes of black plum, cherry and blackberry. These fruits are supported by herbal and deep earthy notes. The palate is sumptuous, rich and balances the earth and fruit notes with near perfection. The wine is well structured and overdelivers. Where It's From
Region / Veneto
Veneto, in northeastern Italy, is home to some of the most celebrated Italian wines, including Amarone red wines. The cities Verona and Venice fall within Veneto, and the areas surrounding Verona in western Veneto is where you'll find Amarone and Valpolicella production. Western Veneto also produces some fantastic white wines, like Soave. Meanwhile, the eastern part of Veneto has something worth celebrating, as well, as that's where Prosecco comes from.
Country / Italy
Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.
Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

Vibrant nose with spiced cherries, plums, dried herbs, cloves and some bark. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and juicy cherries. Fruity and caressing mouth-feel, before a medium finish. Drink now. (James Suckling)
The dark and dusty 2019 Valpolicella Superiore opens with notes of dried strawberries, sage and crushed stone. This is soft textured and perfumed with inner violet and lavender tones over a core of black currants, all lifted by cooling acidity. It tapers off lightly structured while leaving purple-tinged florals and a hint of bitter cocoa. (Eric Guido)

Intense nose with hints of coffee and black chocolate to the raspberry jam and dark cherries. Nicely dry and bitter with dark-chocolate character that extends to the long, polished finish with silky tannins. Drink or hold.
Dark and intense in color, the wine has intense aromas of spiced black plums, blackberry pie and black cherries. Though the fruit is very intense, it is wrapped up by herbal and cocoa notes. The palate is lush and velvety, with fine tannins that give the wine the structure it needs to keep the fruit from being too dominant. This is a big, bold and beautiful wine. (Jeff Porter)

A really fresh and well-balanced Amarone here, with tapenade, ripe but fresh blackberries, chili chocolate and some red berries, too. This is tight and juicy, with a medium-to full-bodied palate and a long, fruity finish. A modern, fresh expression of Amarone that shows immense drinkability, but still pretty serious. Not super-concentrated, but shows restraint and balance. Drink or hold.
The wine is quite reserved on the nose to start, but with a decant it opens up nicely. The wine has aromas of red-cherry preserve, ripe plum, clove, anise and cinnamon. The palate is elegant with notes of dried leaves, dark chocolate and dark cherries. The tannins are already well integrated, giving the wine a magnificent texture. Expect to enjoy this for a while Best from 2025–2035. (Jeff Porter)
The 2017 Amarone Classico Costasera is intense, with masses of dried black cherries and mocha complicated by spiced citrus rinds and a dusting of cocoa. This is a total pleasure on the palate, seamlessly silky and elegant with a spicy core of red fruits. The 2017 tapers off with tremendous length, staining the palate in youthful concentration yet remaining completely fresh. (Eric Guido)

The 2016 Amarone Clássico Riserva di Costasera is unexpectedly fresh and lifted, with dusty rose, tobacco and sweet herbs giving way to medicinal cherries and blackberries. This is dark and intense yet energetic, with saturating red berries and spices giving way to a coating of rounded tannins toward the close. It turns slightly balsamic and with a bitter twang through the incredibly long finale, leaving wood tones and hints of mocha. The 2016 is an intense and savory Riserva di Costasera, and you can’t even tell that it’s one of the higher residual sugar wines on the table at 8.8 grams per liter. (Eric Guido)
A sweet, perfumed nose of blackberries, candied dark cherries, sweet coffee, flowers, dates and dark chocolate. It’s full-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Full and structured, yet it’s contained and balanced. The bright and firm mid-palate contrasts with the racy, bittersweet finish. The sweet, coffee-candy note is still prominent now. Better wait for two years before approaching. Try in 2024.
A smooth, refined texture reveals rich flavors of dried plum, pomegranate and molasses woven with exotic spices, yet this Amarone remains balanced and vinous, with a long and savory finish that earns it a place at the dinner table.
A high-toned, floral red, with flavors of cherry coulis and steeped raspberry laced with dark chocolate, woodsy spices and smoke. Reveals orange peel juiciness to the flavor range, with fine-grained tannins firming the moderate finish. Corvina, Rondinella, Oseleta and Molinara. Drink now through 2028. 8,000 cases made, 800 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
