Where It's From
Region / Mendoza
Mendoza is Argentina's biggest wine region, and with a footprint that spans a diverse geography, it's able to produce a wide array of wines. Chief amongst them are Argentina's ever-popular Malbecs, but you'll also find world-class Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, and more produced here. The geography is diverse, but tends to be mountainous, and the higher elevations play a sizable role in grape growing, providing cooler temperatures at night.
Country / Argentina
View more wines from Argentina
Argentina took the wine world spotlight in the late 20th century with its plush, smooth Malbec. While the popular red grape still reigns supreme, Argentine wineries are increasingly putting forth excellent examples of multiple varietals, all at the extraordinary bargains that make this region so accessible.
Now the fifth largest wine-producing nation in the world, Argentina enjoys high-altitude and low-humidity vineyard sites, comparatively unencumbered by insects and disease. Argentina’s unique terroir has captured the interest of such internationally celebrated winemakers as Paul Hobbs and Michel Rolland, both of whom have projects in the country.

Clarete Natural
2022 / 750 ml.
A new “clarete” light red from the “natural” range, the 2022 La Vaquita Natural is the first vintage for this unusual blend of 80% Malbec and 20% Torrontés that fermented together; the Malbec was with full clusters, and they do a semi-carbonic maceration. It has a pale color, with notes from the two varieties, with violets and orange blossom, and it is fine-boned, light and fresh but with clout, with 13.8% alcohol and fine tannins. This is a very gastronomical light red with tasty, clean flavors and aromas and a velvety mouthfeel. Very easy to drink. This is the first vintage from organic grapes and fermented with indigenous yeasts. 20,000 bottles were filled in August 2022 after three months in stainless steel. (Luis Gutiérrez)

A fruity malbec with dark cherries, violets, hot stones and a hint of oyster sauce. Juicy and vivid on the palate with fresh, natural acidity and firm tannins. Flavorful finish. A well-made natural wine. From organically grown grapes. No sulphites added. Drink now. (Zekun Schuai)
Perfumed with violets and wild raspberries, this wine’s quick journey to the northern hemisphere left it with a slight tanky edge to the acidity. A bit of air settled it, becoming exuberant and energetic. Toss it on top of the ice in a picnic cooler to focus its energy.

A smart use of oak barrels adds baking spices to the profile of this Malbec while preserving freshness. It has aromas of cinnamon and black fruit. The palate is full of ripe plum and mulberry flavors that extend into the aftertaste along with sweet spices. (Jesica Vargas)
The 2022 Malbec Salentein Reserve from the Uco Valley was 60% aged 12 months in French (70%) and American (30%) oak barrels. Garnet-red with purple sheen. The nose offers pink pepper, ripe plum and oaky aromas. Indulgent in the mouth, the juicy, grippy flow delivers lingering ripe flavor.
Youthful and restrained at the moment, with floral, creamy plum and berry flavors, plus suave tannins on the finish. Drink now. 180,000 cases made. (Aaron Romano)

2016 / 750 ml.
The challenges of the vintage seem to have affected the 2016 Bonarda, which resulted in lower volume than in previous vintages. It has a balsamic and minty nose that made me think of Cabernet Sauvignon, with touches of basil leaves, a hint of curry and thyme, mostly aromas from the herbal side. It’s a different expression of Bonarda, it might disconcert some. It finishes very tasty, even salty. 80,000 bottles were produced in 2016.
