Blueberries and cherries with walnuts and blackberries, too. Medium body, firm tannins and a creamy texture. Tension and focus. Real malbec character. Excellent price. Sustainable. Drink now. (James Suckling)
The 2021 Pizzella Malbec is ripe without excess and shows more black than red fruit, and it’s juicy and velvety, dense and with fine tannins. It has a touch of vanilla that makes it very attractive and pleasant. (Luis Gutiérrez)
Aromatic herbs blend with berries on the inviting nose. The same notes repeat on the palate of this medium-bodied red. The grapes are sourced from Altamira in Uco Valley giving this wine bright acidity and a mineral texture. (Jesica Vargas)
The 2021 Malbec La Posta Pizzella from Tupungato, Uco Valley was 50% aged in used barrels. Purple in hue. The nose presents notes of plum, hints of herbs and aromas from the aging process. Offering good value for money, it’s indulgent and expansive in the mouth with gentle tannins, coming out sweeter than in previous years. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

Where It's From
Region / Mendoza
Mendoza is Argentina's biggest wine region, and with a footprint that spans a diverse geography, it's able to produce a wide array of wines. Chief amongst them are Argentina's ever-popular Malbecs, but you'll also find world-class Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, and more produced here. The geography is diverse, but tends to be mountainous, and the higher elevations play a sizable role in grape growing, providing cooler temperatures at night.

View more wines from Argentina
Argentina took the wine world spotlight in the late 20th century with its plush, smooth Malbec. While the popular red grape still reigns supreme, Argentine wineries are increasingly putting forth excellent examples of multiple varietals, all at the extraordinary bargains that make this region so accessible.
Now the fifth largest wine-producing nation in the world, Argentina enjoys high-altitude and low-humidity vineyard sites, comparatively unencumbered by insects and disease. Argentina’s unique terroir has captured the interest of such internationally celebrated winemakers as Paul Hobbs and Michel Rolland, both of whom have projects in the country.

There’s better integration of the oak and better balance, harmony and elegance in the 2021 Privada Family Blend. It was produced with 40% Malbec and 30% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo. It feels very integrated, with each variety adding aromas and flavors and coming through as complex and powerful. This has to be one of the finest vintages for this bottling. Maybe they used less new barrels… 220,000 bottles produced. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Malbec-Cabernet Franc
2021 / 750 ml.
The 2021 Reserva Malbec Cabernet Franc has the backbone and tannic structure of the 30% Cabernet Franc that complements neatly the Malbec and especially for this kind of Malbec, which doesn’t have the mineral backbone of the higher ranges (especially in their Zuccardi project). This excels for 2021. 100,000 bottles. (Luis Gutiérrez)
Notes of black cherries and dark berries, plums, lavender, lemon zest, hazelnuts and tobacco leaves. It’s medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins. Vibrant, fruity and gently peppery with a fresh, succulent finish. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

The 2021 Malbec Single Vineyard Organic from El Cepillo, Uco Valley is purple in the glass. It has a fragrant, expressive nose highlighting fresh plum, raspberry, hoppy and grapefruit notes along with mint and violet aromas. In the mouth, it’s bold and juicy with a taut profile and well-defined, long-lasting flavor. A pleasantly modern red. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
The 2021 Escorihuela 1884 Single Vineyard Organic Grapes Malbec comes from their organic and biodynamic vineyard in El Cepillo in San Carlos (Valle de Uco), where they work organically and biodynamically and try to express the variety and place in a pure way with no oak in the wine. It has 13.1% alcohol and mellow acidity. It feels young and has some puppy fat to be rendered by some time in bottle, as I have seen while tasting the 2015 and 2018 next to it. It’s an unoaked Malbec of great purity and balance, juicy and primary now, but it will develop further complexity and nuance with a bit more time. 40,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in October 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)

The 2021 Bonarda La Posta Armando from Guaymallen, Mendoza is purple in color. It has a nose of gentle raspberry notes and hints of herb. This is a satisfying, everyday wine that is lean, creamy and rich in the mouth with mild freshness and an expansive palate. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
The attractive nose displays aromas of both flowers and berries. It is full bodied, with layers of cherry and blackberry on a smooth palate. Hints of coffee add to its moderate complexity. This is a good example of the Bonarda grape: fruity and enjoyable. (Jesica Vargas)
