Crios Malbec 2021 / 750 ml.

Item#: 70898

VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Nov 2022
The 2021 Malbec Crios from the Uco Valley was 40% aged in used barrels. Purple in hue. The nose offers notes of plum and violets, which come through very clearly for a wine in this price range, over a bed of vanilla. In the mouth, it’s juicy and expansive with a little grip and a flavorful, black tea profile. The 2021 is a textured Malbec with an expressive, fruity core. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

Where It's From

Region / Mendoza

View more wines from Mendoza

Mendoza is Argentina's biggest wine region, and with a footprint that spans a diverse geography, it's able to produce a wide array of wines. Chief amongst them are Argentina's ever-popular Malbecs, but you'll also find world-class Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, and more produced here. The geography is diverse, but tends to be mountainous, and the higher elevations play a sizable role in grape growing, providing cooler temperatures at night.

Country / Argentina

View more wines from Argentina

Argentina took the wine world spotlight in the late 20th century with its plush, smooth Malbec. While the popular red grape still reigns supreme, Argentine wineries are increasingly putting forth excellent examples of multiple varietals, all at the extraordinary bargains that make this region so accessible.

Now the fifth largest wine-producing nation in the world, Argentina enjoys high-altitude and low-humidity vineyard sites, comparatively unencumbered by insects and disease. Argentina’s unique terroir has captured the interest of such internationally celebrated winemakers as Paul Hobbs and Michel Rolland, both of whom have projects in the country.

Perfumed nose of elderflowers, orange blossoms, lychees, white peaches and green apples. It’s medium-bodied with vibrant acidity and a fruity, floral and crisp palate. Excellent freshness. Zesty finish. Vegan. Drink now. Screw cap.

The 2021 Torrontés Crios is a 50/50 blend of grapes from Cafayate & Paraje Altamira. Pale green in the glass. With a nose of jasmine, rose, lime, lychee and hints of herbs, it has good fat and volume for the variety. The freshness is well-integrated and the alcohol unusually and admirably low at 12.5%. There’s better integration of the oak and better balance, harmony and elegance in the 2021 Privada Family Blend. It was produced with 40% Malbec and 30% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vineyards in Luján de Cuyo. It feels very integrated, with each variety adding aromas and flavors and coming through as complex and powerful. This has to be one of the finest vintages for this bottling. Maybe they used less new barrels… 220,000 bottles produced. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Smoky blueberries and redcurrants, fresh vanilla and a lifted cigar note. A generous red with some sweetness to the fruit, but well balanced by firm, fine-grained tannins. Juicy, laid-back and nicely flattering. Drink now.

Notes of smoke are followed by candied cherries. On the palate, it is fruit-forward, as berries mix with herbaceous notes. It has good acidity, light tannins and a short finish. (Jesica Vargas)

Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2021 / 750 ml.

2021 / 750 ml.

Item #: 99684

RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2022
The 2021 Concreto Malbec has to be one of the finest vintages of this wine despite its youth and still shy personality. But there are tons of flowers, wild herbs and berries there waiting to emerge in an insinuating way, with austerity but unfurling layers and layers as the wine sits in the glass. It’s incredibly fine-boned with chalky tannins that scream limestone, full of precision and purity. For Sebastián Zuccardi, they didn’t do anything different, it’s just the character of the year. This is the wine that explains their philosophy without breaking your piggy bank. It is delicious, serious, approachable and with aging potential. What else do you want? I have sometimes confused this wine blind with one of their top bottlings. This is one of the best values around. They produced 47,000 bottles in this vintage. It was bottled in February 2022. (Luis Gutiérrez)

The 2021 Malbec Concreto from Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley was aged in concrete. Purple in the glass. It has a crisp, expressive nose of fresh plum, sour cherry and hints of blackberry, herbs, violets and lavender. Free-flowing but relaxed in the mouth, the palate leaves behind a mixture of chalk and juicy freshness before the sustained, pure fruit finish. The year suited this style perfectly. (Joaquín Hidalgo)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Tuesday, August 9, 2022
Such a brooding nose with black pepper, violet and fresh blueberry and blackberry fruit. Spicy and tight on the palate, but super polished, racy and refined. Medium-to full-bodied red with beautiful tannin tension and expressive, floral notes in the finish. Exemplary and authentic! So delicious now. Why wait?
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
A youthful, lively and expressive red, showing floral macerated cherry and plum flavors amid toasted herb and espresso bean details. Ends with minerally tannins, which are firm yet perky, and a note of baker’s chocolate. Best after 2024. 10,000 cases made, 6,000 cases imported. (Aaron Romano)
