Critical Acclaim

VN88 Vinous Sep 2019

"Dark red with ruby tones. Darker in its fruit aromas than the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, offering notes of chocolate and licorice to go with its black fruits. Then darker and a bit juicier than the Cabernet on the palate, showing more fruit sweetness as well as faint herbal lift. Compared to the 2017 Estate Cabernet, this Malbec has somewhat more energy and sweeter tannins too but it still comes across as a bit herbal. A smoother and more appealing wine with decent persistence." (88 pts.)

RP91 Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 29th Jun 2018

"The 2017 Estate Malbec was produced with grapes from Las Compuertas in Luján de Cuyo and from their Vista Flores estate vineyard, which is planted at 1,100 meters in altitude. It fermented in concrete vats, and half of the volume aged in used oak barrels for 12 months. This is the breakthrough year for the Estate line, which is quite different from the 2016s and earlier vintages. There is a lot less oak here (only 33% new barrels compared with 100% used in the past), and there is more sense of place and finer minerality. This is a lot purer, with more varietal characteristics, great tannins and a long, tasty finish. This is also lower in alcohol (13.6%). 350,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in March 2018." (91 pts.)

SP88 Wine Spectator Apr 30, 2019

"Interesting slate, flint and spice notes accent the dark fruit flavors. Firm tannins show on the slightly peppery finish. Drink now through 2021. 35,556 cases made, 2,000 cases imported." (88 pts.)

Mendoza

Mendoza is Argentina's biggest wine region, and with a footprint that spans a diverse geography, it's able to produce a wide array of wines. Chief amongst them are Argentina's ever-popular Malbecs, but you'll also find world-class Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonnays, and more produced here. The geography is diverse, but tends to be mountainous, and the higher elevations play a sizable role in grape growing, providing cooler temperatures at night.

Argentina

Argentina took the wine world spotlight in the late 20th century with its plush, smooth Malbec. While the popular red grape still reigns supreme, Argentine wineries are increasingly putting forth excellent examples of multiple varietals, all at the extraordinary bargains that make this region so accessible.

Now the fifth largest wine-producing nation in the world, Argentina enjoys high-altitude and low-humidity vineyard sites, comparatively unencumbered by insects and disease. Argentina’s unique terroir has captured the interest of such internationally celebrated winemakers as Paul Hobbs and Michel Rolland, both of whom have projects in the country.
