From higher elevation parcels and mostly Grenache, the 2020 Ventoux Edition 1912M offers pretty strawberry and cherry fruits as well as classic Southern Rhône notes of peppery herbs, spice, and licorice. It has a beautiful sense of minerality on the palate, is medium-bodied, balanced, and just a beautiful wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A tank-aged blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Cinsault, the 2020 Ventoux Edition 1912M features fragrant aromas of rose petals, red raspberries and pie cherries. It’s medium to full-bodied, silky-textured and soft and elegant on the long finish. Tasted September 2021. (Joe Czerwinski)
WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 9/1/2023
Refreshing and dark in profile, this blend of Grenache and Syrah has notes of wild strawberries, apple skin, violets, rhubarb and mulled blackberries. Its rustic tannins and mouthwatering acidity make this an easy match against various styles of barbecue. (Anna-Christina Cabrales)

Where It's From

Region / Rhone

View more wines from Rhone

Located along the path of the Rhone River, the Rhone wine region in southeastern France is beautiful and very productive. It's typically divided into two sub-regions, the Northern Rhone and Southern Rhone, and the wines produced in these sub-regions are very different from one another.

The southern Rhone is warm and dry, and produces robust, full-flavored red wines, oftentimes blends with Grenache used as the primary grape. Chateauneuf-du-Pape is without question the most celebrated town for wine production in the Southern Rhone region.

Meanwhile, the Northern Rhone features a cooler climate and steep-sloped vineyards. Syrah is the dominant red grape, and the wines are typically tannic, deeply colored, and highly acidic wines (which leads them to get better with age).

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

JD9999 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 11/11/2022
The flagship from this great estate is the 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Boisrenard, which is based on 80% Grenache and small doses of 17 other varieties. This deeply hued beauty offers a stunning bouquet of blackberries, scorched earth, licorice, ground pepper, and sappy garrigue. I always find a Burgundian-like texture on this wine, and the 2020 is no exception—this is one to put into a blind tasting of Grand Cru Red Burgundies and shock your friends. Medium to full-bodied, ultra-pure, with grippy, sappy tannins, flawless balance, and a great finish, it’s pure class all the way. It’s going to need at least 4–6 years of bottle age, but this is a wine you don’t want to miss, and one of the finest wines I’ve tasted from this estate. (Jeb Dunnuck)

This very impressive Chateauneuf has stacks of black fruit aromas and stunning tannin structure, with a very long driving finish that’s plush and fresh. A cuvee of 80% grenache with all the other varieties that the appellation allows. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink or hold. (Stuart Pigott)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023
Boasts beautiful red currant, licorice and spice cake flavors that are concentrated and rich, yet balanced by salty minerality, earth and fresh pepper highlights. Shows smoke and singed sandalwood that fill in the backdrop, while graphite laces the still-grippy finish. This needs a bit of time to unfurl. Best from 2024 through 2035. 188 cases made, 38 cases imported. (Kristen Bieler)

Candied black cherry and a hint of cinnamon introduce this ripe, immediately enjoyable red. Vinified with no apparent oak influence, it’s an expression of Châteauneuf-du-Pape focused front-and-center on fresh, youthful berry and cherry flavors. Fine, silky tannins leave a delicately charred grip on the finish. At peak now–2025.

Bottled a month ago, the 2020 Côtes Du Rhône Coudoulet sports a vivid ruby hue and is a blend of 30% each of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre, with the balance Cinsault. It’s a ripe, rounded, medium to full-bodied effort that has lots of ripe red and blue fruits as well as notes of peppery garrigue and leather. Drink this juicy, elegant Côtes Du Rhône over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 5th May 2022
The 2020 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel continues this cuvée's hot streak. A blend of approximately 30% each Grenache, Mourvèdre and Syrah, with 10% Carignan, it boasts attractive floral overtones, hints of crushed stone and ripe cherry fruit. Full-bodied and impressively silky for such a young wine, it should be drinkable upon release and for at least a decade thereafter. (Joe Czerwinski)

JD97+97–100 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 1/25/2022
At the moment, the 2020 Gigondas Hominis Fides looks to be the standout of the three single vineyards, although all three are beautiful wines in the making. It certainly offers the most power and concentration, with lots of ground pepper, Provençal garrigue, violets, and loamy soils notes, as well as a darker cassis and berry-driven core of fruit. It builds beautifully on the palate, with ample structure, incredible balance, and a great, great finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9595 pts. - Wine Spectator - Feb 28, 2023
A rich, velvety red, showing both power and grace, this is introduced with heady steeped cherry and incense. Reveals raspberry coulis and charred plum flavors that race alongside black licorice and iron. The supple palate is quickly hemmed in by fine-grained tannins, with singed herbs and white pepper notes dancing through the long finish. Best from 2024 through 2035. 39 cases imported. Ripe, but with a breezy edge as damson plum and bitter cherry notes glide through, laced with underlying mineral and floral details. Light kiss of toast on the finish. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2023. 20,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

A great value in just about every vintage, the 2020 Ventoux Terrasses from Pesquié offers solid notes of ripe black cherry fruits as well as some peppery, herbal, earthy nuances, medium-bodied richness, ripe yet firmer tannins, and a good finish. It’s going to keep for a decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
