Critical Acclaim

RP95+ Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate 31st Aug 2018

"I’ve tasted many vintages of the Brunels’ wines, and 2016 looks as if it will be their best ever. The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape stood out in my blind tasting, offering incredible complexity and lightness despite being full-bodied. Roses, garrigue and dried spices accent raspberries and cherries in a wine that’s concentrated and intense yet agile, with nuances galore. It’s 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 10% Syrah and 5% Cinsault and will have aged 18 months (mainly in concrete) prior to bottling. Let’s hope this looks just as good then." (95–97 pts.)

JD94 Jeb Dunnuck August 28, 2018

"The 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a classic wine from this heralded estate. Kirsch, crushed flowers, spice, and hints of peppery garrigue all flow to a full-bodied, balanced, seamless 2016 that has polished tannin, a seamless texture, and no hard edges. It’s going to evolve gracefully for 15–20 years. The 2016 is a normal blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre and the rest Syrah and Cinsault that was partially destemmed and brought up mostly in concrete. Don’t miss this beauty. (Jeb Dunnuck)" (94 pts.)

SP92 Wine Spectator Feb 29, 2020

"Very expressive, with currant, raspberry, damson plum and cherry flavors bursting forth, laced with red licorice and floral notes. A racy iron streak zips up the finish. Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault. Best from 2020 through 2037. 575 cases imported." (92 pts.)

WE94 Wine Enthusiast 12/31/2019

"Notes of cassis liqueur and raspberry jam mingle into dried sage, earth and bramble in this fruity but substantial and complex wine. It’s round and soft on the palate, lingering with a silky cling and feathery but persistent tannins. Plush enough to enjoy already it will improve through 2028 and hold further." (94 pts.)

VN92 Vinous Dec 2019

"Brilliant ruby-red. Mineral-tinged raspberry and floral pastille aromas pick up a pungent garrigue nuance with air. Juicy, sweet and energetic on the palate, offering intense red berry and cherry liqueur and lavender flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. The mineral and floral notes repeat emphatically on the clinging finish, which is framed by smooth, fine-grained tannins." (92 pts.)

Rhone

Located along the path of the Rhone River, the Rhone wine region in southeastern France is beautiful and very productive. It's typically divided into two sub-regions, the Northern Rhone and Southern Rhone, and the wines produced in these sub-regions are very different from one another.

The southern Rhone is warm and dry, and produces robust, full-flavored red wines, oftentimes blends with Grenache used as the primary grape. Chateauneuf-du-Pape is without question the most celebrated town for wine production in the Southern Rhone region.

Meanwhile, the Northern Rhone features a cooler climate and steep-sloped vineyards. Syrah is the dominant red grape, and the wines are typically tannic, deeply colored, and highly acidic wines (which leads them to get better with age).

France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.
