Clos i Terrasses Laurel | Priorat Red Wine 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 96438

RP95+95+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022
The 2019 Laurel is quite closed and shows serious and shy. It’s made with all the grapes that are not used for Clos Erasmus—young vines, the remaining Cabernet Sauvignon (no more than 5%), mostly Garnacha and some 15% Syrah. The wine matured mostly in 2,000-liter oak vats, concrete and some barrels (she’s abandoning the tinaja). It’s 15% alcohol but has very good freshness. The wine is round and powerful but very harmonious and with good freshness. It’s medium to full-bodied and nicely textured, with abundant, glossy tannins and fantastic balance. This is both powerful and elegant. It slowly opens up in the glass to ripe berries, spice and herbs and a touch of smoke. 18,700 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2021. (Luis Gutiérrez)

The picturesque countryside of Spain is littered with vineyards large and small, and offers up some of the best value available on the wine market today. You can consistently fine critically-acclaimed Spanish wines selling for less than their counterparts from other wine-producing countries. The Rioja and Ribera del Duero regions are most famous, and there's nowhere else in the world where you'll find as many world-class Tempranillos.

Laurel | Priorat Red Wine 2016 / 750 ml.

Priorat Red Wine
2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 89125

The 2016 Laurel is sensational stuff and, in truth, matches several older vintages of the grand vin in quality. A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 16 months in a mix of oak, concrete, and amphora, this deep purple-colored beauty offers up a fresh, vibrant bouquet of blueberries, crisp plums, violets, and spring flowers. Possessing full-bodied richness, beautiful depth of fruit and richness, and a fresh, elegant style, it’s a brilliant wine that’s going to evolve gracefully for 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Aug 2019
I tasted the 2016 Laurel next to the current 2017, as I didn’t taste it last time. 2016 was a cooler year than 2017, and I initially felt like the wines from 2016 seemed a little riper than the 2017s, which felt unusually fresh, covered by the baby fat of their youth. But they evolved in the glass, and both vintages showed quite faithful to the character of the year. There is a strong mineral streak in the 2016s, with graphite, diesel, tar and notions of toasted sesame seeds, smoked meats and a mixture of flowers, wild berries and spices, quite aromatic, expressive and open. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannins and very good freshness in a combination of power and elegance. And the wine became fresher in the glass… 20,000 bottles produced.

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 16th May 2024
The 2021 Laurel, the second wine from Clos Erasmus was produced with grapes from younger vines, between five and 40 years old, and is a blend of 80% Garnacha, 11% Syrah and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes were cooled down for 24 hours before sorting and destemming and then put in the vat where they warmed up and started fermenting naturally. They did a soft vinification with short pumping overs to avoid extraction, and the fermentation lasted two to three weeks followed by four weeks of maceration. The wine matured in oak vat, barrel and amphorae for 18 months. It’s super aromatic, floral and expressive, clean and elegant, delicate and ethereal. It has a velvety palate that is nicely textured, seamless, elegant and balanced and with a focused, clean, long finish. I see the meaty side of Syrah here. It has 14.5% alcohol with a pH of 3.3. The oak is completely integrated despite the fact that the wine is very young. 28,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2023. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Priorat Red Wine
2018 / 750 ml.

Item #: 94212

RP9696 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2020
The second wine here and one that is easier to drink, the 2018 Laurel was produced with fruit from the younger vines, a couple of barrels that are declassified from Clos Erasmus and the Cabernet Sauvignon, more or less 70% Garnacha and 15% each Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. It has good ripeness and still a pH of 3.3. It fermented mostly in oak vats and 2,000-liter concrete vats with indigenous yeasts and matured for 18 months in 20,000-liter oak and concrete vats, second use barriques and some clay amphorae. It’s a bright translucent ruby color and has a perfumed and delicate nose with notes of orange peel and flowers; this is the most elegant and ethereal vintage of Laurel as far as I can remember, with red rather than black fruit and a kind of cranberry quality. The palate is medium-bodied, textured and fluid, with subtleness, balance and very fine tannins. The oak is perfectly integrated, and the wine is easy to drink, approachable and very pleasurable right now. It’s a fresh vintage with energy and finesse, quite different from previous vintages. I love it. 22,825 bottles and 515 magnums produced. It was bottled in May 2020.

Clos Erasmus 2019 / 750 ml.

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 96437

RP98+98+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Sep 2022
The serious and powerful 2019 Clos Erasmus feels quite classical Priorat, with notes of graphite, black fruit and licorice; it’s a solid Priorat with weight, concentration and clout. There are still some smoke, toast and spice notes from the élevage—100% in barrel, some 40% of them new, for around 18 months—and the wine always needs a little bit of time in bottle. Despite the 15.5% alcohol, the wine comes through as balanced and with freshness, there is no heat or sensation of alcohol; you need the tannins and acidity to counterbalance the alcohol, and they are doing that here. This is more balsamic, aromatic and exuberant. It’s showy, hedonistic and rich, a solid Erasmus. The tannins are still quite present and need some more time to be resolved. 3,300 bottles were filled in May 2020. (Luis Gutiérrez)

Attractive nose, imbedded with copious red-berry and sweet strawberry notes, as well as hints of sweet spices and Mediterranean herbs. Nimble, medium-bodied palate with a juicy, concentrated core of red fruit. Silky, polished and succulent. Drink now.

A lively red, with a minerally base note and flavors of black and red currant, brambly herbs, mocha, tangy orange peel and iron. Creamy finish. Garnacha, Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Drink now through 2027. 1,705 cases made, 1,000 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)
