Technically, Beaujolais is part of France's Burgundy wine region. However, because the grapes used in Beaujolais and styles produced differ so dramatically from the rest of Burgundy, most in the wine business consider them as separate regions. Gamay is Beajolais's primary grape, and it produces wines that are best consumed in the same year they are produced. The most famous style is Beaujolais Nouveau, which often arrives in the US near Thanksgiving time and represents the first wines of the year's harvest.

In eastern France lies the region of Burgundy, one of the legendary wine regions of the world. Burgundy, home to some of the most expensive wines in the world, is famous for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. With very few exceptions, red Burgundy is made from 100% Pinot Noir. And the reigning white of Burgundy, Chardonnay, can vary incredibly in style depending on where it was produced within the region.
