Where It's From

Region / Tuscany

View more wines from Tuscany

There are few regions as picturesque as Italy's Tuscany. And there are few regions that produce finer wines, either. Tuscany is home to legendary wine regions Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti, among others, where the red wine grape Sangiovese is king. It's also home to "Super Tuscans," a category of Tuscan wines that don't officially fall within the Italian wine classification system.

Italy is famous for its powerful, sleek, and elegant reds wines from ancient growing areas with legendary names such as Chianti, Barolo, Barbaresco, Montepulciano. Italian white wines are also gaining popularity: Orvieto, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon are excellent examples of Italian white wines.

Wines of Italy are complex and flavorful, much like the culture that is their source and the cuisine that is their match.

The 2019 Chianti Colli Fiorentini is a bold, juicy wine. Succulent red cherry, plum, spice and tobacco race across the palate as this fleshy, inky Chianti shows off its considerable charms. The 2019 is not super complex, but it is immediate, bold and undeniably delicious. (Antonio Galloni)
WE8888 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 7/1/2021
Aromas of ripe dark-skinned berries, new leather and underbrush lift out of the glass. On the easygoing, enjoyable palate, lithe tannins and fresh acidity accompany dried cherry, white pepper and a hint of star anise. (Kerin O’Keefe)

JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, August 8, 2022
Aromas of crushed stones, dark berries and blueberries follow through to a medium to full body with creamy tannins and a medium-chewy finish. Chocolate at the end. Sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Two or three years of bottle age will bring this around nicely. Drink after 2024. (James Suckling)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 9th Feb 2023
A blend of 44% Sangiovese, 37% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19% Merlot, the 2019 Modus is a very contemporary wine with soft extraction, lots of dark fruit and gentle tannins spread over a full-bodied style. You get sunshine and warm Tuscany in the glass, and although this blend of grapes tells you less about its territory, it gives you a generous glass to pair with grilled meats. Black cherry is followed by pencil shaving, sweet earth and barbecue spice. Only the 15% alcohol content is a little too much. (Monica Larner)

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2023
This flight of three Biondi-Santi wines starts off on the right foot thanks to the pristine bouquet and lively fruit of the 2019 Rosso di Montalcino. This is the entry-level wine (although the price point certainly suggests otherwise). It shows very detailed and chiseled aromas of wild cherry, cassis, dried violet, rust and orange skin. The wine carries a strong structural frame; however, the mouthfeel is ethereal and light notwithstanding. (Monica Larner)
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/6/2023
The 2019 Rosso Di Montalcino is pure and energetic, with ripe cherry fruit, rose petals, orange zest, and spice. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and ripe, soft, supple fruit throughout, it is energetic and long on the palate, with a soft, coating mineral texture. Elegant, pure, and warming on the finish, with no harsh edges, its floral perfume lingers with notes of lavender, red berries, and refreshing salinity. Drink 2025–2040. (Audrey Frick)
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Wednesday, October 5, 2022
Aromas of sliced citrus, cherry and flowers follow through to a medium body, with creamy tannins and crunchy fruit at the finish. Lovely combination of fruit and acidity. Very drinkable now but will age nicely. (James Suckling)
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Oct 2022
The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino keeps me coming back to the glass to take in its dusty mix of dried strawberries and currants offset by lifting nuances of shaved pine and mint. Soft and round in expression, the 2019 impresses on its lush textures and vivid wild berry fruit. Through it all, a core of saline tension builds, mingling minerals with gentle tannins, as the 2019 finishes with a staining of concentration, yet maintains a lovely freshness. (Eric Guido)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Aug 31, 2023
A refined Rosso, this evokes cherry, strawberry, floral and iron flavors aligned with a supple texture and firm structure. Harmonious and long, but needs some time to integrate. Drink now through 2033. 1,959 cases made, 500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)
