This sports strong singed savory notes out front, with a mix of steeped red and black currant fruit chasing them from behind. Bramble and anise elements score the finish, which shows a slightly rambunctious edge. Needs to settle in with some cellaring. Best from 2020 through 2025. 1,250 cases made.

A blend of Bordeaux varieties, the 2016 M by Marciano displays a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It is a little youthfully subdued to begin, opening with delicate notions of fresh mulberries, black cherries and warm blackcurrants with hints of raspberry leaves, forest floor, violets and black tea plus touches of cedar chest and charcoal. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has fantastic energy, with layers of black fruits and earthy sparks supported by lovely freshness and a solid grainy texture, finishing long with an herbal lift.
Juicy, with dark currant and blackberry fruit showing good energy, while light charcoal, tobacco and roasted cedar notes fill in through the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2020 through 2026. 385 cases made.

Marked by scents of bay leaf, sage, cherries and cassis, the full-bodied 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Trailside Vineyard is dense but with a classic linear Cabernet structure. Quite sculpted and fresh for valley-floor fruit, it’s focused and long on the finish, gently dusty but firm. Once a walnut grove, the vineyard extends from the Silverado Trail down toward the Napa River, with this bottling using fruit from both the rocky, lower bench section of the vineyard near the road and a sandier parcel closer to the river. Aromas of blackberries, black truffles, burnt orange peel, forest floor and blueberries. Decadent. Full to medium body. The tannins are so tight and dense with super fine and caressing texture. An amazing, mesmerizing wine. Drinkable and glorious, but better after 2022.
The 2016 IX Proprietary Red Estate is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, 10% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot. Deep garnet-purple, it comes strutting out of the glass with flamboyant Black Forest cake, blueberry compote and plum pudding notions plus hints of spice cake, unsmoked cigars, menthol, licorice and dusty soil and accented by wafts of tar and black tea. The palate is full-bodied yet incredibly poised and vibrant with amazing freshness and very fine-grained, very firm tannins. It possesses the most provocative earthy sparks, providing arresting depth to the very long, beautifully perfumed finish. Stunning.
The 2016 IX Estate is a total knock-out. A wine of exceptional balance and harmony, the 2016 is stunning from the very first taste. Nothing really stands out. Instead, it is the wine’s sense of proportion that makes the most lasting impression. Seamless, layered and voluptuous to the core, the 2016 has so much to offer. Bright Pritchard Hill acids and minerality are felt on the persistent, beautifully sculpted finish.
Lush and warm in feel, with gorgeous fig, black currant and dark plum fruit that rolls through in harmonious waves against a backdrop of loam, alder and smoldering cast iron notes. Not shy on power, latent cut and inner freshness, this just needs time to unwind fully. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2021 through 2038. 1,800 cases made.

Lastly, the 2016 Zinfandel Reserve checks in as 85% Zinfandel, 13% Petite Sirah, and 2% Syrah that spent a full 20 months in 60% new French oak. Tons of black fruits, scorched earth, singed cedar, and chocolate notes emerge from this effort, and it’s sweetly fruited, medium to full-bodied, and packs plenty of fruit while staying balanced. There’s some obvious oak here yet it plays well with the spicy Zinfandel fruit and this certainly offers pleasure. This was a great vintage for Zinfandel, and you see the quality here. (Jeb Dunnuck)
The 2016 Zinfandel Reserve Dry Creek Valley has a deep ruby-purple color. The nose offers aromas of blueberries, boysenberry, raspberries and cherries with touches of apricot, cocoa, star anise and a spicy current. The medium to full-bodied palate offers loads of ripe fruits with firm, chewy tannins, juicy acidity and a long, sweet baking spice-laced finish. 640 cases were made.
