Black fruit, spiced plums, licorice, black olives, earth and sweet spices on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Structured and tannic with a rich core of black fruit on the mid-palate and a firm finish. Try in 2024.
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2023
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty, balanced, medium-bodied effort that brings plenty of ripe California fruit as well as sappy green herbs, violets, and floral notes. It has lots of varietal character, fine tannins, and outstanding balance. Drink bottles over the coming 10–12 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

From the Producer

Our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep ruby color with bright aromas of black cherries, red plum and hints of dark rose petals and vanilla spice. The wine is elegant and balanced with rich flavors of pomegranate, plum and deeply ripened wild berries followed by lingering notes of French oak and soft, supple tannins. The finish is lush, silky and smooth while maintaining its balanced red fruit and soft tannins to the very end. This is a youthful yet classically well-balanced Oak Knoll District Cabernet Sauvignon that can be enjoyed and appreciated now but will continue to carry on and mature throughout the next 10–15 years.

Where It's From

District / Napa Valley

View more wines from Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

Region / California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon MMXIX is composed of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with exuberant notes of redcurrant jelly, cassis and boysenberries, plus hints of cardamom, bouquet garni, red roses and lavender. Full-bodied, the palate is laden with vibrant black fruits accented by red fruit sparks, supported by firm, grainy tannins and bold freshness, finishing long and perfumed. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

The finest wine I’ve tasted from this estate, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec that spent 20 months in 80% new French oak. This medium to full-bodied, round, incredibly sexy beauty offers loads of red and blue fruits, some spice, graphite, loamy earth, and tobacco nuances, supple tannins, plenty of mid-palate flesh, and a great finish. A quintessential 2019, it can be drunk any time over the coming 15–20 years.

Quite a dark nose, with lots of cassis, incense, dark chocolate, meatiness and smoke. Concentrated and tight on the palate, packed with juicy fruit and dusty tannins. Impressively high-quality tannins, delivered in big quantity. Extremely well-judged balance between ripeness and freshness. Lingering finish. 98% cabernet sauvignon and 2% malbec. Drink or hold.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Grown is a firm, classically built wine that is going to need a few years to come into its own. There is admirable depth as well as character. Red cherry/plum fruit, spice, tobacco and mocha lend quite a bit of aromatic nuance to this mid-weight, super-expressive Cabernet from Frog’s Leap. (Antonio Galloni)

Perfumed nose of dried flowers, cassis, baked blueberries and chocolate orange with a touch of cinnamon. It’s full-bodied with fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Vibrant and zesty cabernet. Drink from 2023.

Aromas of wet stone, gravel and blackcurrant. Full-bodied with fine, velvety tannins. Juicy, bright and fresh. Lovely dark fruit, with gravel and wet-stone notes adding very nice definition. Chocolate finish. Drink or hold.

A ripe, polished and direct style, with cassis, blackberry and red cherry puree gliding through, inlaid with light mocha and vanilla accents through the finish. Drink now through 2028. 93,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
