O'Shaughnessy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 99072

JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 5/4/2022
The base 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is terrific, and while I don’t know the price, I suspect it’s a great value. Deep purple-hued, with terrific mulled currant and blackberry fruits, it has lots of ripe herbal, chocolaty spice notes, full-bodied richness, sweet tannins, and a great finish. This is pure Napa Valley goodness to drink over the coming 10–15 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
Notes of black cherries and cassis combine with cedar and vanilla on the nose of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that’s almost equal parts Howell Mountain, Mt. Veeder and Oakville. It’s medium to full-bodied, reasonably concentrated and already accessible, with plush tannins and a lingering finish. (Joe Czerwinski)
VN9191 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a soft, easygoing wine to drink now and over the next handful of years. Succulent red cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and spice are nicely pushed forward, with floral notes that build in the glass. The Napa Valley Cabernet is a blend of fruit of estate vineyards in Oakville, Howell Mountain and Mount Veeder. (Antonio Galloni)

Where It's From

District / Napa Valley

View more wines from Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

Region / California

View more wines from California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

Black fruit, spiced plums, licorice, black olives, earth and sweet spices on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins. Structured and tannic with a rich core of black fruit on the mid-palate and a firm finish. Try in 2024.
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/16/2023
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty, balanced, medium-bodied effort that brings plenty of ripe California fruit as well as sappy green herbs, violets, and floral notes. It has lots of varietal character, fine tannins, and outstanding balance. Drink bottles over the coming 10–12 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

WE9494 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2022
This complex and well-balanced wine seamlessly blends black fruits, oak spices and a beefy accent on a full body backed by moderate tannins. It feels velvety, almost silky, but has the structure to improve with age. Best from 2025. (Jim Gordon)
RP93+93+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot, the 2019 Hess Collection Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder Estate Grown is gently herbal and cedary up front, with deep layers of blueberry, cassis and loam backing up those initial impressions. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, it finishes long, with dusty tannins and a savory touch of black olive. (Joe Czerwinski)
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Thursday, April 7, 2022
A very soft and friendly red with plum and blackberry character. Medium body with medium firm tannins and a delicious finish. 80% cabernet sauvignon, 17% malbec and 3% petit verdot. Drink now. (James Suckling)
SP9191 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Shows a toasty overlay, with singed vanilla coating a core of blackberry, black cherry and boysenberry paste flavors. A tug of loam and a cedary frame emerge on the finish. Offers more oomph than purity, with the toasty edge asserting itself through the finish. Best from 2023 through 2034. 6,300 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Black fruit, cassis, dried herbs, cedar and dried spices on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm tannins. Structured with a solid core of dark fruit on the center-palate and an intense finish. Drink from 2024. (James Suckling)
SP9292 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
Delivers a big gush of plum sauce, blackberry preserves and melted black licorice, with a flicker of bramble tucked in to provide some energy. Lush and toasty through the finish, with the fruit holding the upper hand throughout. Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec. Drink now through 2032. 450 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9292 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Cedary, almost bourbon-like wood, blueberries, cherries and vanilla cream all appear on the nose of the 2019 G by Alex Guarachi, a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Malbec. Full-bodied, creamy and plush, it’s almost ridiculous how soft and pillowy the tannins are. Drink it over the next five to eight years. (Joe Czerwinski)
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/31/2022
This wine is a great value for the quality, a blend of 88% estate Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% estate Malbec from the producer’s high-elevation site. Aged two years in all French oak, it is smooth, supple and rich in mountain berry, with additions of toasted oak and tobacco. This wine is approachable in its youth. (Virginie Boone)
JD9090 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
Including 10% Malbec, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon G By Alex Guarachi sports a dense ruby/plum color to go with a spicy, savory nose of ripe black cherries, plums, chocolate, and tobacco. With moderate acidity, full-bodied richness, and loads of texture, this hedonistic bomb of a wine should evolve for 8–10 years if properly stored. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Ripe and focused, with good intensity to the boysenberry and blackberry coulis notes, which are carried by a graphite edge. Reveals violet accents through the lightly toasted finish, adding nice lift, with a curl of alder smoke at the end for more nuance. Drink now through 2037. 219 cases made. (James Molesworth)

VN95+95–98 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch is a stunning wine. Dark, virile and imposing, the 2019 packs so much energy and complexity into its mid-weight frame. Generous dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add layers of dimension. The 2019 is hugely promising. I can’t wait to taste it from bottle next year.
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
I loved all these latest releases from Patria. Starting with the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Ranch, which might be the best Napa Cabernet under $100, it has terrific red and black fruits as well as notes of crushed stone, herbes de Provence, spice, and violets. Rich, medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and already impossible to resist, it’s ideal for drinking any time over the coming 15 years or so. (Jeb Dunnuck)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2021
Composed of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2019 Oakville Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon is jumping with exuberant scent of crushed blackberries, warm cassis and redcurrant jelly, plus hints of roses, wild sage and tilled soil. The medium to full-bodied palate has fantastic tension and finely grained tannins supporting the multi-layered black and red fruit flavors, finishing beautifully perfumed. 600 cases were made. The appellation 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is another winner. Ripe red and black fruits, dried flowers, and spice all define the bouquet, and it’s up-front, soft, balanced, and just delicious. Drink bottles over the coming decade. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
Leads with a light cedar edge, followed quickly by relatively open-knit red currant and damson plum fruit flavors. Shows a light savory edge on the finish. Drink now through 2030. 41,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
The winery’s largest bottling, approximately 38,000 cases, is the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley. Primarily from the Hardester Ranch in Pope Valley, with other major contributions from St. Helena, Soda Canyon and Glass Mountain, it’s a medium to full-bodied effort, with bold flavors of cherries, cassis and cedar. It’s easy, but not soft, nicely firm, with a long, silky-textured finish. (Joe Czerwinski)

RP9595 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
Outpost’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% varietal, sourced from around the winery, plus some barrels from the True Vineyard that didn’t make the cut for inclusion there. Just don’t call it a second wine, as it’s a beautiful effort in its own right, with wonderfully pure cassis fruit, accented with notions of vanilla and hints of dried herbs. Full-bodied, concentrated and rich, with a long, dusty, tannic (but ripe) finish, try it in four or five years and drink it over the following two decades. (Joe Czerwinski)
JS9595 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Monday, February 7, 2022
Wonderful spices with pine needles and dark fruit. Full-bodied and silky with fine-grained tannins and beautiful length. Attractive vanilla undertones, but not overstated. Compact and creamy. Tight at the end. Needs two or three years to open. Try after 2025, but already attractive.
RP94+94–96+ pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 18th Mar 2021
Sporting a deep purple-black color, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon needs a little coaxing to begin, soon unfurling to reveal notions of crushed black cherries, wild blueberries and fresh blackcurrant, plus suggestions of tar, wet slate, fertile loam and black truffles. The medium to full-bodied palate is charged with wonderful energy, delivering loads of black fruit layers and a firm, grainy frame plus and lively backbone, finishing long and mineral laced. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 12/21/2021
As for the three Cabernet releases, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate has a medium to full-bodied, balanced, layered, and elegant style that just begs to be drunk. Giving up lots of blue fruits, bouquet garni, tobacco, and cedar, it will keep for 15–20 years if stored properly. (Jeb Dunnuck)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - May 31, 2022
Packs in a lot of plum, boysenberry and blackberry compote flavors supported by a racy graphite underpinning, with showy anise, fruitcake and Christmas pudding notes filling in for dramatic effect. Best from 2023 through 2034. 1,719 cases made. (James Molesworth)

JD100100 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
One of the more backward, mineral-laced, age-worthy wines in the vintage, the 2019 Cabernet IX Estate comes from the estate property on Pritchard Hill, which is unquestionably one of the greatest terroirs in the Valley. Incredibly pure crème de cassis, smoked tobacco, spicy oak, graphite, chocolate, and crushed stone are just some of the nuances here. Hitting the palate with full-bodied richness, it has a stacked mid-palate, building tannins, utterly flawless balance, and the class to benefit from 5–7 years of bottle age and cruise for 50 years or so. Hopefully I’ll still be around to be test this prediction! (Jeb Dunnuck)
JS100100 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, December 18, 2022
Ripe cherries, plums and flowers on the nose. Orange peel, too, together with hints of thyme, bay leaf and sage. Medium-to full-bodied, incredibly deep and fresh, with fine tannins that carry you deep down into the finish. It tells you its great, but makes you spend time in order to understand it. Reminds me of the 1990 Latour. Try after 2027.
RP100100 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 29th Oct 2021
The 2019 IX Estate is opaque purple-black in color, needing a little coaxing to unlock notions of blackberry preserves, baked plums and crème de cassis, plus hints of pencil lead, star anise, wild sage and Indian spices, leading to a fragrant waft of lavender. Built like a brick house, the opulent, full-bodied palate is perfectly framed by super firm, exquisitely ripe tannins and a fantastic acid line to give lift throughout the long earthy finish. So finely knit together, this multi-layered, seamless beauty is just breathtaking. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)
VN9898 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 IX Estate is supremely elegant and polished. All the strong mineral and savory accents typical of this site are present, but they are nearly buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. Bright and chiseled, the 2019 is focused and full of character right out of the gate. Dried herb, tobacco, chocolate and mineral accents lend nuance throughout. My impression is that the 2019 is still recovering from its recent bottling. It is already stellar, but it will be even more stellar in time. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9797 pts. - Wine Spectator - Nov 15, 2022
This offers a pretty large-scaled core of cassis, blackberry and mulberry fruit flavors sitting atop a band of graphite, while singed mesquite and apple wood and sweet tobacco notes fill in along the edges. Dense, but juicy and well-defined through the finish. To be released November 2022. Best from 2024 through 2040. 1,700 cases made. (James Molesworth)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is brilliant and has classic varietal aromas and flavors of cassis and dark currants as well as tobacco, cedar pencil, espresso, and spring flowers. With medium to full body, a seamless, elegant mouthfeel, silky tannins, and impeccable balance, it’s well worth seeking out and a multi-bottle purchase. I’d certainly be thrilled to have bottles in the cellar. It will have 15–20 years of longevity. (Jeb Dunnuck)
