Louis M. Martini Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 / 750 ml.

Item#: 99311

RP9090 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Martini’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley comes from a multitude of Gallo-owned properties and includes about one-fourth purchased fruit. Marked by notes of almost peppery-spicy oak and ripe cassis, it’s full-bodied, ripe and generous, still not that rich or textured but a clear step up from Martini’s Sonoma County Cabernet, with a long, mouthwatering finish. (Joe Czerwinski)

Where It's From

District / Napa Valley

View more wines from Napa Valley

Napa Valley is California's -- and America's -- most famous and celebrated wine district. Located north of San Francisco, Napa Valley is most famous for its world-class Cabernets and Chardonnays. The region's acclaim officially took off following a 1976 tasting in Paris when renowned judges chose a Napa Chardonnay and Cabernet over top French wines made from the same grapes.

Most wineries in the region produce either a Chardonnay or a Cabernet, and usually it's both. Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel are also grown with success in Napa Valley. You'll likely recognize the names of some of the viticultural areas within Napa Valley, including St. Helena, Stag's Leap and Carneros.

Region / California

View more wines from California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

View more wines from United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignor is a pretty rich, bombastic wire, especially for Mayacamas. A blast of dark fruit, incense, tobacco, licorice, spice and mocha hits the palate. I would give the 2019 at least a few years in bottle to settle down, as it is quite the powerhouse today. This is an unusually flamboyant wire with plenty of richness and a bit less in the way of subtlety. The opulence of the vintage comes through loud and clear. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9696 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2023
Loaded with character and energy, this version reveals heavy notes of zesty sweet bay leaf and sassafras that infuse a core of steeped red currant and mulberry fruit, all carried by bright acidity and iron-laced tannins. The long finish pulls everything together, with the fruit, savory and mineral elements in harmony. Showing an old-school touch, this has a long life ahead. Best from 2025 through 2045. 4,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st Mar 2023
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon remains true to the winery’s historic style, offering complex notes of dried herbs and mixed berries, carried across the palate by a wine that’s medium-bodied, crisp and somewhat lean by modern Napa standards. It finishes long and dusty, promising well for the future. (Joe Czerwinski)

Riper and more voluptuous, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Wight Vineyard is a selection from the estate vineyard and a smaller production release. It has a wealth of ripe black fruits, smoke tobacco, chocolate, and violets, with more lead pencil and earthy nuances emerging with time in the glass. Concentrated, full-bodied, yet balanced and incredibly pure, it’s another terrific, seamless wine from this estate readers will love. I like it today, but give bottles a year or three and enjoy over the following 20+. (Jeb Dunnuck)

A very aromatic red, offering baking spices, such as cinnamon, cloves and anisette, as well as notes of ripe blackcurrants, plums and dark chocolate. Full-bodied with soft tannins and a ripe yet vibrant and juicy fruit core. Long, warming finish. Drinkable now, but better in a few years.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 31, 2022
Ripe and caressing in feel, with cassis and plum paste mixed with toasted vanilla and sweet tobacco. A subtle cedar twinge adds range on the generous finish. Drink now through 2028. 26,100 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Patrimony Caves des Lions 2019 / 750 ml.

2019 / 750 ml.

Item #: 99413

RP9999 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Dec 2022
The 2019 Caves des Lions is a blend of free-run Cabernet Sauvignon (52%) and Cabernet Franc (48%) matured for 22 months in 100% new French oak and bottled in December of 2021. Opaque ruby in color, it has layered aromas of blackcurrant, lilac, graphite, fried savory herbs and game meats. The full-bodied palate is powerful yet balanced, its restrained, mineral-laced fruit complemented by mouthwatering acidity, and it boasts a long, graceful finish. Harmonious and latent, it will demand plenty of patience as it unwinds in bottle—the Patrimony wines tend to age at a glacial pace. (Erin Brooks)
VN9898 pts. - Vinous - May 2023
Wildly spicy and intense yet lifted, the 2019 Patrimony Caves Des Lions wafts up with an array of pepper-tinged wildflowers, spiced exotic tea, dusty dried herbs and red currant. A pretty inner sweetness up front accentuates its silken textures, further elevated by citrus and mineral nuances. Ripe red and black fruits resonate throughout. This finishes incredibly fresh yet structured, lingering impossibly long. Through it all, a tinge of residual acids maintains remarkable freshness. (Eric Guido)
RP97+97–99 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Mar 2022
The 2019 Caves des Lions is a barrel sample of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Cabernet Franc, made from free-run juice and set to age about 22 months in 100% new French oak. Opaque ruby in color, it offers explosive cassis and purple flowers on the nose, with streaks of stony and green pepper character. The palate offers loads of perfume and exotic spice, with a chocolaty texture, seamless acidity and incredible length. (Erin Brooks)
JD97+97–99 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/1/2020
Along the same lines, the 2019 Patrimony Caves Des Lions is slightly more voluptuous yet still has a beautiful minerality, full-bodied richness, awesome complexity and nuance, and a stunning finish. This flawlessly balanced, seamless barrel sample is another wine that marries power with elegance beautifully. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JD96+96–98 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 9/30/2021
More cassis, crushed stone, graphite, and chocolate emerge from the 2019 Caves Des Lions, and it’s beautifully textured, with full-bodied richness, building yet ripe, polished tannins, a gorgeous mid-palate, and one heck of a great finish. For all its richness and depth, it stays lively, fresh, and weightless, and it’s a beautiful wine. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Youthfully balled up, but there’s a ton of gorgeous cassis, raspberry and plum fruit, all of it kept in check right now thanks to a bolt of iron as riveting as I’ve seen in this wine. Barrel samples are often easily impressive, but this is way more than that.—Non-blind Louis M. Martini vertical (July 2020). (James Molesworth)
SP9494 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2023
Well-built, with a dense core of red and black currant reduction flavors held in check for now, while iron-tinged sweet tobacco, warm earth and singed apple wood notes hold sway. Packs a muscular, racy structure that drives underneath, so just give this a bit more time to fully meld. Rock-solid, though. Best from 2025 through 2040. 1,350 cases made. (James Molesworth)
JS9494 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Friday, January 14, 2022
Aromas of currants, blackberries, vanilla, walnuts and cedar. It’s full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Plush, supple and textured with a deep core of dark fruit and spice. Vanilla, too. Rich and flavorful. Big, chewy wine. Try from 2023. (James Suckling)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Martini’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard has the site’s characteristic mint and herbal overtones, but it also offers deep cassis and plum notes. Full-bodied, ripe but firm, with typical Cabernet Sauvignon varietal austerity and reserve, framed by fine-grained, silky tannins that linger on the finish, it’s a classic example of Monte Rosso Cabernet.
