From the Producer

A lovely bright intense colour. The fruity aromas appear as soon as a glass is poured. The first nose is flattering, Swirling reveals an aromatic explosion of berries with dominant wild strawberry aromas. A soft, silky attack, full-bodied with a broad range of aromas as complex as the bouquet. The tannins are cheerful and generous. A fairly long finish, rich in alcohol. Le Colombier de Brown Red 2016 is a generous, modern wine, an excellent example of this rich vintage.

Where It's From

Region / Bordeaux

View more wines from Bordeaux

Bordeaux is known the world over for its exceptional wines, particularly red blends made with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes, among others. These Cabernets aren't typically the full-bodied Cabs you get from California, but rather medium-bodied wines that emanate elegance and sophistication.

You'll also find some refreshing Bordeaux whites and, of course, Bordeaux's famous dessert wine, Sauternes.

Country / France

View more wines from France

The French did not invent winemaking. They simply perfected it. For centuries, France has been producing wines that inspire poetry, awe, and wonder; wines that blur the lines between nature, craftsmanship, cuisine and art. These are the wines that inspired cultures around the globe to follow in France’s footsteps, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, Grenache, Merlot, Semillon and more.

Yet as often as they are emulated, the magic of their terroirs can never be duplicated. You may taste Cabernet from around the world, but perhaps none as elegant and regal as Bordeaux. You may try Pinot Noir or Chardonnay from various climates, but none with the earth-bound soul and ethereal reach of Burgundy.

This blend of mainly Merlot with some Malbec has weight along with a fresher element that gives it a lift. Black plum fruits are laced with acidity while also powered by firm, young tannins. The wine needs time, so drink from 2022.
JS9191 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 3, 2019
Vibrant red-fruit aromas and flavors with a fluid and supple array of ripe red cherries and berries that cover a plush array of smoothly rendered tannins that make for a fresh, long and juicy finish.

JD9191 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 2/28/2019
The Merlot-dominated 2016 By Clinet (there’s 5% Cabernet Franc) is a charming, already delicious effort that gives up elegant notes of chocolate-laced plums and dark fruits, notes of leafy herbs and truffle, medium to full body, and a layered, charming mouthfeel. It’s a terrific Bordeaux to drink over the coming 7–8 years or so. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Light black cherry and plum pit notes are infused with a hint of tobacco. Merlot. Drink now. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 10,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported. (James Molesworth)

Chateau Quinault L'Enclos 2016 / 750 ml.

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 94052

RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2018
This was the first vintage that technical director Pierre-Olivier Clouet started to exclusively use 500-liter barrels for Quinault l’Enclos, decreasing the surface area to which the wines are exposed and, ultimately, the impact of the oak. The percentage of new oak is around 50%, and the blend is 68% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Quinault l’Enclos opens with expressive redcurrants, black raspberries and black cherries scents with savory suggestions of tapenade, dried herbs and tobacco plus a waft of cloves. Medium-bodied, the palate is fantastically bright and lively with loads of red fruit accents and a firm frame of grainy tannins, finishing on an earthy note.
JD9292 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - February 28, 2019
Another fresh, pretty wine from the team at Cheval Blanc, the 2016 Château Quinault l’Enclos has nuanced notes of black cherries, blackberries, leafy herbs, and saddle leather. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced and seamless on the palate, with terrific purity, it will benefit from just a handful of years in the cellar. (Jeb Dunnuck)
JS9292 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 3, 2019
A juicy and very elegant Quinault, showing hazelnut, dark-berry and cedar character. Medium body, with a lovely, fine-tannin texture and a delicious finish. Drink after 2022.
VN9292 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
The 2016 Quinault L’Enclos is very pretty and also intensely aromatic. Savory herb, mint, dried cherry, mocha and sweet tobacco are all lifted in this super-precise, nuanced Saint-Émilion. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. The 2016 is precise, nuanced and exquisitely beautiful, all in the understated style that is typical here.
WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 5/1/2019
This smooth wine is still lightly woody but has great fruit that will shine strongly over the next months. Juicy black-currant flavors are right up front, giving freshness to this attractive, fruity wine. It will be ready to drink from 2022.
SP8989 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jan 31, 2019
A fruit-filled version, with waves of warm cassis and raspberry puree infused liberally with anise, incense and tobacco notes. A light bramble edge keeps this just honest enough on the finish. Drink now through 2030. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. (James Molesworth)

Goulee by Cos d'Estournel 2016 / 750 ml.

2016 / 750 ml.

Item #: 90618

JS9393 pts. - JamesSuckling.com - Sunday, February 3, 2019
Deep, dark and rich fruit, from plums to berries. Full bodied, layered, dense and very rich. Best after 2022.
SP9090 pts. - Wine Spectator - Web only – 2019
Takes a modern approach at first, with a glistening coat of sweet, vanilla-accented toast around a core of plush plum and blackberry puree flavors. A swath of tobacco and flashes of iron and cherry pit on the finish keep this grounded. Drink now through 2027. 7,917 cases made.
VN9090 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2019
Bottled in April 2016, the 2016 Goulée by Cos d’Estournel has a vivid, fresh, lively bouquet of black fruit infused with bell pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin and plenty of tarry black fruit laced with tobacco. I appreciate the freshness and classicism of this Goulée, which is more cohesive and shows a little more substance than previous vintages. Very fine.
WE8989 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 4/1/2019
Full of ripe fruit that gives an almost opulent character, this powerful wine is packed with tannins. A touch of dark chocolate contrasts with the black-currant fruits and acidity. The wine will develop relatively quickly and be ready to drink from 2021.
RP8989 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2018
The 2016 Goulée by Cos d’Estournel is made up of 77% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc. It has a deep garnet-purple color and opens with youthful notes of crushed red and black plums, cherries and blackberries with touches of chocolate mint and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of juicy red and black fruits, framed by soft tannins and finishing with a minty lift.
