RP90+90–92 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 14th Jul 2022
I tasted the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner’s Reserve as a finished barrel sample of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. Deep ruby-purple in color, the nose opens slowly to cassis, blueberry and violet, and the full-bodied palate is powerful and spicy, with a long, floral finish. 170,000 cases will be bottled after aging for 15 months in 7% new French oak and 7% new American oak. (Erin Brooks)

A forward, inviting style, with creamy textured plum and cassis notes laced with sweet toast. Features a faint savory echo through the finish. Drink now through 2024. 100,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)

Where It's From

District / Sonoma County

View more wines from Sonoma County

Sonoma County, just north of San Francisco is one of California's most famous wine districts. While sometimes overshadowed by the reputation of its rival and neighbor, Napa Valley, Sonoma County has a longer history of viticulture and is twice the size of the former.

Thanks in part to a strong diversity of climates within Sonoma County, the district is home to outstanding examples from a whole host of grapes. Sonoma County Pinot Noirs are considered some of the finest in the state, and the Dry Creek Valley Zinfandels are remarkable. Chardonnays come in a variety of styles thanks to the varying temperatures in Sonoma County, and Cabernets and Merlots also thrive here.

Some of the more celebrated viticultural areas in Sonoma County include Sonoma Mountain, Sonoma Coast, Chalk Hill, Dry Creek Valley, Alexander Valley, and Carneros (parts of which fall within Napa Valley).

Region / California

View more wines from California

When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

Country / United States

View more wines from United States

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly Martini clone from the core of the estate. A heady, ample wine, the 2019 is endowed with striking opulence. Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha shows tremendous depth. Attractive floral notes emerge with a bit of aeration, adding brightness. The contours are remarkably soft for a young mountain Cabernet. These wines age beautifully, their youthful opulence notwithstanding, so I would not be in a rush here. (Antonio Galloni)
SP9393 pts. - Wine Spectator - Jul 31, 2022
Alluring, with steeped plum and cassis notes cruising through, backed by lively licorice snap, bramble and sweet tobacco accents. A long echo of singed alder permeates on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2034. 2,250 cases made. (James Molesworth)

This deep and concentrated wine is as smooth as silk, scented with black currants, spearmint and a touch of toast, then soothes the palate with velvety tannins and lush, ripe fruit flavors. While easy to sip, it has a subtle, restrained tannin structure. Best–2028. (Jim Gordon)

Supple, layered and brooding in rich red fruit, this wine is lush and energetic in its youth. Toasted oak adds notes of baking spice and vanilla to the grand, decadent style. (Virginie Boone)

A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, and the rest Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District shows the complex, perfumed, elegant style of this appellation nicely, with plenty of red and black fruits, notes of tobacco, chalky minerality, and spice, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and outstanding length. 7765 cases. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is bright, effusive and charming right out of the gate. Freshly cut flowers, mint, sweet red berry fruit and blood orange are all very nicely lifted in this mid-weight, gracious Cabernet from Chimney Rock. It’s a fabulous introduction to the range. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9191 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 31st May 2022
Chimney Rock’s 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13% Merlot, with 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Aged 18 months in 50% new French oak, the wood is relatively restrained here, adding just hints of cedar and vanilla to the raspberry, cassis and cherry aromas. Medium to full-bodied, supple and silky, this is a fun, easy-to-drink Cabernet for drinking over the next decade. (Joe Czerwinski)

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles Highlands District is a bold, pungent wine. Savory herbs, tobacco and cedar add a strong aromatic presence. Although a very good wine, the Cabernet is not quite as compelling as the other wines in the range, while the savory style is on the edge of being distractingly vegetal.
