When it comes to US wine production, California is King. California wines account for almost 90% of all wines produced in the United States each year, and is home to the most celebrated vineyards and producers in the country. California is probably best known for its world-famous Cabernets and Chardonnays, many of which hail from its two most-acclaimed AVAs, Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Other prominent grapes used in California wines include Merlot, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah, and Zinfandel (which California made popular).

The United States now ranks fourth in the world in wine production behind, France, Italy, and Spain. While about 90% of that wine is produced in California, other states like Oregon, New York, and Washington are establishing themselves as prime spots for wine production, as well. Just about any variety of wine can be found in production somewhere in the United States.

RP9494 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 15th Sep 2022
My favorite of the three 2019 Cabs presented by Davies comes from the estate vineyard on Diamond Mountain. The 2019 J. Davies Cabernet Sauvignon—86% Cabernet, with 10% Malbec and 2% each Merlot and Petit Verdot—features a whirl of complex aromas: mint, bay, cassis and blueberry notes are joined by bits of mocha, dark chocolate and asphalt. There’s ripe, creamy texture on the full-bodied palate, which culminates in a long, supple, licorice-tinged finish. (Joe Czerwinski)

Dark and winey, with generous steeped black currant, fig and blackberry flavors at the core, backed by a sparkle of anise, a deep tug of warm earth and cast iron notes. This should unfold slowly in the cellar. Best from 2023 through 2036. 1,225 cases made. (James Molesworth)

JD9494 pts. - Jeb Dunnuck - 3/10/2022
Always a smoking value that readers shouldn’t miss, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature sports a dense purple color to go with beautiful cassis and blueberry-like fruits as well as bouquet garni, spice, and obvious, rocky mineral-like aromas and flavors. Rich and medium to full-bodied, with notable structure and good acidity, it’s going to keep for two decades in cold cellars. It’s a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under $100. 18,000 cases. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Packs an alluring, winey feel, with a well of cassis and plum reduction laced with hints of cocoa, tobacco and singed cedar. Picks up a cast iron note on the finish, giving this just a bit of muscle as the fruit plays out. Best from 2023 through 2036. 18,000 cases made. (James Molesworth)
VN9393 pts. - Vinous - Jan 2022
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is a terrific wine and a big overachiever in its price range. Black cherry, plum, mocha, lavender, spice, licorice and new leather lend tons of complexity to this bold, luscious Cabernet. This overt, upfront Cabernet offers plenty of near and medium-term appeal. (Antonio Galloni)
RP9393 pts. - Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate - 30th Nov 2021
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature is a blend of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Malbec and 3% Merlot. Deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps with open-knit notes of warm cassis and plum preserves, plus hints of tobacco leaf, bouquet garni and cedar chest. The medium to full-bodied palate is firm and crunchy with bags of bright fruit and a grainy texture, finishing lifted. (Lisa Perrotti-Brown)

WE9191 pts. - Wine Enthusiast - 12/1/2020
This big wine from South Australia has lovely varietal expression in tones of blue, black and red fruit, fresh mint, cracked pepper and cigar box. The tannins are taut and powerful, talc-like in texture, but not overwhelming thanks to a line of juicy fruit. Protein alongside this is a necessity.
SP8585 pts. - Wine Spectator - Oct 15, 2020
Tight herb, earth and wild blackberry flavors have good concentration, mingling with dense, cedary tannins and a black pepper accent on the finish. Drink now. 5,000 cases imported.

Dark ruby. Black and blue fruits, licorice and a hint of smokiness on the nose. In a taut, focused style, offering bitter cherry and cassis flavors sharpened by a spicy touch of cracked pepper. Shows building sweetness on the youthfully tannic finish, which leaves bitter cherry and savory herb notes behind. (Josh Raynolds)

This is a very successful bottling for a widespread brand, starting with aromas of cherry liqueur, cola, mint, loam and vanilla. There is a smooth richness to the palate, where star anise spices up the cherry-compote core. (Matt Kettmann)
SP8888 pts. - Wine Spectator - Apr 30, 2022
Slightly mature tasting, with dried cherry and beetroot flavors that feature leathery hints. Shows pomegranate and savory spice on the finish. Drink now. 5,000 cases made. (Kim Marcus)
